It’s a good day to be a Star Trek fan.  We recently reported on some quotes from Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve regarding J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, and now Paramount has released a batch of high-resolution images from the film.  We’ve seen a couple of these before in low-resolution or watermarked versions, but quite a few of them provide new looks at the Enterprise crew and that dastardly Cumberbatch.  Additionally, Abrams recently (and admirably) showed a dying Trek fan named Daniel the full film.  Daniel’s wife has now provided an update, sharing their reaction to seeing the film and noting Abrams and Bad Robot’s generosity.

Hit the jump to check out the images and to read the quotes from Daniel’s wife.  The film also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, and Bruce GreenwoodStar Trek Into Darkness opens on May 17th in 2D, 3D, and IMAX.

It’s safe to say that director J.J. Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness is one of the most highly anticipated films of the coming year, and fans have been eager to learn more about the project essentially ever since it was officially announced.  Despite Abrams’ secretive nature, we’ve seen a bounty of Into Darkness goodies over the past month or so, and just recently we got a look at the Star Trek covers for Empire Magazine.  Now some excerpts from the magazine’s cover story have been released online, providing some tidbits about the film via a lively interview with Trek newcomers Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve.  Hit the jump to see what kind of details they spilled.

It’s a very Star Trek Christmas Eve thanks to Empire Magazine, who released a lot of great Star Trek Into Darkness material as part of their 2013 preview issue.  There are four versions of the magazine cover featuring Chris Pine and Benedict Cumberbatch, eleven new images (highlighted by a gun-toting Zachary Quinto previewed above), and a synopsis with new information.  In a separate venue, director J.J. Abrams revealed more about the mysterious villain character, John Harrison, that Cumberbatch plays: “He is just an average guy who works in an organization called Starfleet, and he turns against the group because he has got this back-story and this kind of amazing secret agenda.”

This time around, we get a great look at individual shots of the principal cast members, as well as some clean pictures of the USS Enterprise’s interiors alongside alien worlds. The images also raise a few questions concerning the plot, such as: why is Noel Clarke’s character crying and dropping a ring into a glass, and why is Alice Eve screaming so much?

A new trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness has gone online.  Unlike the previous teaser, this one is far more melancholy as we hear Pike (Bruce Greenwood) tells Kirk, “There’s greatness in you, but not an ounce of humility.  But there’s going to come a moment when you’re wrong about that.  And you’re going to get yourself, and everyone under your command, killed.”  From there, we see the epic action director J.J. Abrams is going to unleash.  Details on the story are still scarce, but a teaser trailers never give those away.  They’re meant to entice, and this new trailer is even better than the first one.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, and Noel ClarkeStar Trek Into Darkness opens in 3D on May 17, 2013. Alice Eve’s Character in STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Revealed

Today, we have yet another sign that the villain (Benedict Cumberbatch) in Star Trek Into Darkness will probably be Khan.  While we reported yesterday that the villain’s name was “John Harrison“, it’s doubtful that’s the character’s real name.  We also know that the footage that was shown to journalists had various cues like bits from Michael Giacchino‘s score playing off the music from Wrath of Khan, and the Japanese trailer has a very familiar visual at the end.  Last night, Steve was at a press event for the movie, and learned that Alice Eve will play Carol Marcus.  For those who need a reminder, Carol Marcus was a character in Wrath of Khan.  Played by Bibi Besch, the character invented the Genesis Device, and she also had a fling with Kirk.  Granted, it’s unlikely that the new alternate timeline would exactly mimic the original timeline, but I’m baffled as to why she’s even there in the first place.  Why make all the callbacks to Wrath of Khan?  Why live in that inescapable shadow?

If you haven’t seen it yet, hit the jump to check out the latest trailer.  The film also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Peter Weller, and Noel ClarkeStar Trek Into Darkness opens in 3D on May 17, 2013.

You’ve seen the announcement trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness and you want more.  You’re clicking to see if there’s any way you can still get tickets to IMAX screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey because they’ll show the first 9 minutes of the movie.  You’re building a time machine to jump forward to December 17th when another trailer will launch.  For now, you can enjoy 15 more seconds of footage from the upcoming flick.  No, it doesn’t tell you the name of the villain, because that would ruin the entire picture (apparently).  But it does have a bit of a callback to the most popular Star Trek film ever made.

Hit the jump to check out the Japanese trailer, which contains 15 more seconds of footage.  The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, Noel Clarke, and Benedict Cumberbatch.  Star Trek Into Darkness opens in 3D and IMAX on May 17th, 2013.

The first trailer for director J.J. Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness has been released.  Benedict Cumberbatch takes control from the get-go with a narration over a sequence of increasingly dramatic scenes. The rest of the crew get a few seconds of face-time apiece, but action, destruction and Cumberbatch rule over this trailer. While there are no glimpses of space shown, there appears to be at least three separate terrains to keep our heroes busy. And it looks as if someone has lost control of the Starship Enterprise…

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Peter Weller and Noel Clarke.  Star Trek Into Darkness opens in 3D and IMAX on May 17th, 2013.

With all this recent Star Wars news flying around, the fans of Star Trek finally have something new to celebrate. This first poster for Paramount’s sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness, features a familiar symbol shaped by the destruction of surrounding buildings, with a mysterious dark figure standing upon a pile of rubble. A trio of actors has boarded the crime drama Eye of WinterVariety reports that Bryan Cranston, Alice Eve, and Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus) have been set to star in the indie for director Tze Chun.  The story centers on a struggling motel owner (Eve) who, along with her daughter, is taken hostage by a nearly blind career criminal (Cranston) to be his eyes as he attempts to retrieve his cash package from a crooked cop (Marshall-Green).  Ursula Parker and Leo Fitzgerald have also joined the cast, and Chun co-wrote the script alongside Osgood Perkins and Nick Simon.

There’s no word on when production might begin, but I assume filming won’t get underway until next year as Cranston returns to shoot the final season of Breaking Bad this winter.  Eve will next be seen in J.J. Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness in May.

Chris Pine Says STAR TREK 2 Will Have Comedic Elements, But the Crew Will Face a Greater Threat

While Chris Pine is currently shooting Jack Ryan in downtown Manhattan (you can see images of him and Kevin Costner here), he recently spoke out about the tone of Star Trek 2.  Specifically, Pine was quick to mention that the J.J. Abrams sequel doesn’t follow the rules set down by Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, which says a follow-up film should be “like the original, only darker.”  As the first Star Trek had its lighter moments (Pine’s Kirk having an allergic reaction and being repeatedly injected by Bones), the sequel appears to keep the comedic element amidst a greater threat to Starfleet.

Also starring Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve and Benedict Cumberbatch, Star Trek 2 opens May 17th, 2013.  Hit the jump to read what Pine had to say.

If we can trust the Tweet, then Star Trek 2 and Zachary Quinto have officially wrapped.  Quinto sent out an image and a brief message over Twitter today that would suggest the follow up to J.J. Abrams‘ 2009 Star Trek has wrapped.  After these set photos and video initially leaked earlier this year, we haven’t see a whole lot out of the Starfleet camp (here’s a hat).  Quinto stays the course with this Tweet, as far as images go, but it’s good to know the production has wrapped up.  Maybe now we can get an official title.  The Untitled Star Trek Sequel, starring Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, Noel Clarke, and Benedict Cumberbatch. , opens May 17th, 2013.  Hit the jump to see the image along with a recap of what we know about the sequel.

The nature of the villain role played by Benedict Cumberbatch in the Star Trek sequel may have just been revealed.  In the interests of keeping the front page spoiler-free, I’ll keep this brief and vague with all the important information after the jump.  There are some additional spoiler-y bits that include cameos and alien races that could be featured in the sequel.  And, as always, nothing is confirmed, so file these rumors under “extremely likely.”  The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho, Alice Eve, Peter Weller and Noel Clarke. Star Trek 2 opens May 17, 2013.  Hit the jump to get spoiled.

Over 40 New Images from MEN IN BLACK 3 Highlight Rick Baker’s Incredible Alien Make-Up

A giant batch of new images from Men in Black 3 have hit the web.  Though we get our fair share of looks at stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, and Jermaine Clement, the real highlight of the group is a handful of peeks at legendary makeup artist Rick Baker’s inspired alien designs.  We saw a few of these in a recent batch of alien-centered pics, but this group is of much better quality.  Baker took his inspiration from the sci-fi films of the 50s and 60s, so the impressive group of aliens on display in Men in Black 3 have that retro look down-pat.

Hit the jump to check out the images, but be warned that a few of them might be considered minor spoilers.  The film also stars Alice Eve, Bill Hader, Michael Stuhlbarg, Nicole Scherzinger, and Emma ThompsonMen in Black 3 opens in 3D on May 25th.
