Sony Pictures has released another clip from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  The follow-up finds Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) surrounded by antagonistic forces as Electro (Jamie Foxx) emerges, Parker’s old friend Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) returns to New York City, and everyone seems to have a connection to the shady goings-on at Oscorp.  This clip features some admirable creativity when it comes to the variety of ways Spidey must weave his web in order to save New York City’s hapless citizens from Electro.  However, you have to accept the notion that his webbing can move faster than electricity.

TOP 5: DRAFT DAY, Early Reactions to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, Colbert Replacing Letterman, Drew Goddard Directing THE SINISTER SIX, STREET FIGHTER: ASSASSIN’S FIST

collider-top-5-sliceFor the first time that I can remember since I started writing for Collider in 2010, director Peter Weir‘s The Truman Show made headlines this week when we learned that Paramount is developing a TV series adaptation of the film. While I won’t waste any space today discussing my feelings on the adaptation (mostly because there aren’t any real details to dissect as of now), I will absolutely take this opportunity to talk about my adoration of the film. The Truman Show ranks among my all-time favorites with ease and, if pressed to name a lone favorite, it would likely make that cut too. I actually didn’t watch it until my second year of college, circa 2007, but I credit that first viewing as a benchmark cinematic experience for me; one that helped me begin to understand the impact that a movie could have on a person’s outlook and perception of the world around them. I would eventually go on to dedicate my graduate school research to the film, during which I watched it at least 15 more times; wrote this semi-boring perceptual effects analysis; and wrote/recorded this somewhat less boring seven song record. On paper, these projects were a way to fulfill requirements towards my degree. In reality, it was an excuse to delve further into the headspace of a work that, for all intents and purposes, changed my life.

All personal reflections aside, this week’s Top 5 features interviews for and Matt’s review of Draft Day, early reactions to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the announcement that Stephen Colbert will replace David Letterman on CBS’ The Late Show, Sony selecting Drew Goddard to direct The Sinister Six, and the first look at Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist. Keep reading for a brief recap and link to each of the above.

Extended TV Spot for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Contains Even More New Footage

In case you haven’t seen enough of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 yet, Sony has released an extended TV spot containing even more new footage.  I’m curious as to why they keep doing this.  Are they worried people won’t come out to see a Spider-Man movie?  It’s Spider-Man.  People will see it.  It will sell lots of toys and other merchandise.  It’s also the first movie of the summer blockbuster season (no disrespect to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but summer blockbuster season begins on the first weekend of May; it’s science).  Does giving so much of the movie away really benefit anyone?  I guess if you can’t get enough of the movie before you see the movie, then you’re over the moon about the company’s marketing campaign.

Despite the fact that the movie doesn’t open for over a month, Sony is nowhere near done with it’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 marketing blitz.  Today’s batch of new images offer a behind-the-scenes look at the practical version of Green Goblin’s (Dane DeHaan) glider, another look at Paul Giamatti’s Rhino, and then a couple of other images that might cross the line into possible spoiler territory.  It’s been said to death, but given the amount of footage and such that we’ve seen from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it feels like we have enough to plot out the entire story.  Despite feeling overwhelmed by it, the footage actually looks quite good, so hopefully director Marc Webb still has plenty of surprises waiting for moviegoers on opening weekend.

Sony Pictures has released a final theatrical trailer for director Marc Webb‘s upcoming sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This trailer would probably be a bit more exciting if Sony hadn’t previously released an overwhelming amount of trailers, clips, and images (keep in mind that the movie is still six weeks away), but there’s still plenty of action and a heavier emphasis on Harry Osborne/Green Goblin even though Electro is the main villain.  The movie looks good; I just wish the studio hadn’t already shown us so much of it.

New Clips from CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

Clips from two highly anticipated superhero sequels have been released online.  First up, a new clip from Captain America: The Winter Soldier features neither Captain America nor the Winter Soldier, as we instead see a discussion between Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Robert Redford’s character, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.  If you’re itching to see the titular duo, though, check out yesterday’s clip.  Early reactions to the film have been overwhelmingly positive, and I’m eager to see how Redford fits into the overall Marvel universe.  You’ll also want to stick around after the credits to see a scene directed by Joss WhedonCaptain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4th.

Additionally, two new clips from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have been released, just a day after the debut clip came online.  These two new clips feature, alternately, a scene between Peter (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen (Emma Stone), and a scene between Peter and Harry (Dane DeHaan).  They’re both quite character-centric, which is promising.  The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens May 2nd.

While there’s been a lot of footage released for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, today features the debut of the film’s first official clip.  Even as Webb recently addressed the concern of too many villains in this sequel, it wouldn’t be much of a movie without a bad guy.  Luckily, we get a look at the main one in this new clip, as Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) attempts to talk down Max Dillon/Electro (Jamie Foxx) before the situation gets drastically out of hand.

The film also stars Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Paul GiamattiFelicity JonesChris CooperB.J. NovakColm Feore, and Sally Field.  The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2nd.  Hit the jump to watch the first clip.

Stan Lee Narrates Three New Promo Clips for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

You can’t sell a big superhero movie these days without product integration or cross-promotion, and thanks to Sony’s team-up with Kellogg’s, three new promo clips from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have landed online.  The clips show off some meaty bits of new footage (including Oscorp and Norman Osborn), but they’re mostly notable because they feature narration from comic book legend Stan Lee, adding a retro, heroic feel to the footage.  In the Marc Webb-directed sequel, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) finds himself surrounded by antagonistic forces as Electro (Jamie Foxx) emerges, Parker’s old friend Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) returns to New York City, and everyone seems to have a connection to the shady goings-on at Oscorp.

New Featurette for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Puts the Focus on Peter and Gwen

Sony has released a new featurette for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  The featurette shines the spotlight on the relationship between Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), which was easily one of the best parts of the first movie.  If this featurette is any indication, it will also be one of the best aspects of the sequel as the two actors continue to have terrific chemistry, and there’s still a commitment to making Gwen more than a one-dimensional love-interest/damsel-in-distress.

Hit the jump to check out the featurette.  The film also stars Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Sally Field, Chris Cooper, Felicity Jones, Colm Feore, B.J. Novak, and Paul Giamatti.   The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2nd.

New Image of Dane DeHaan as the Green Goblin in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

It seems like only yesterday that Sony was hiding the fact that Green Goblin was in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and he would be played by Dane DeHaan.  I’m not sure what the difference is between knowing three months in advance of the release date as opposed to six months, but it’s standard procedure for most studios and their blockbusters.  In any event, the studio has now released another image of Goblin and this time he’s throwing down against Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield).  In this reboot, the key to being the Green Goblin is bad hair, bad teeth and dirty skin wrapped up in a mech suit.  Harry Osborn is stealing jobs from homeless people.
