We recently learned that Charlie Sheen’s new TV series Anger Management has been picked up for a whopping 90 episodes, but Sheen also has a fairly high profile feature film role coming up soon. The actor stars in Roman Coppola’s A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III in which he plays a successful graphic designer whose fame and fortune have made him irresistible to women. After his girlfriend breaks up with him, he heads into a downward spiral that forces him to look back on his failed romantic history.
The first images from the film have landed online today, giving us a look at Sheen and co-stars Bill Murray and Jason Schwarztman in character. Moreover, we’ve also got some enticing plot details from Coppola, who’s probably best known professionally for his collaborations with Wes Anderson (Moonrise Kingdom, The Darjeeling Limited). Dan Aykroyd has somehow become the Mark Millar of his own franchise. While Mark Millar is an outsider who pretends like he knows the daily goings-on behind the adaptations of his comic books, Aykroyd is actually a producer of the Ghostbuters movies. However, he exposes the key flaw in trying to give people specific status reports: the facts change on a daily basis. Just because it’s sunny today, doesn’t mean it’s going to be sunny a year from now. If everything Aykroyd said about Ghostbusters 3 was accurate, filming would have taken place this past spring. But the most frequently asked question for Aykroyd hasn’t even been, “When do you start filming?” It’s been, “Is Bill Murray coming back?”
The chances of Murray returning have always leaned towards no with the star highly reluctant to reprise his role as Dr. Peter Venkman. There was a time when he seemed slightly up on the idea of the character returning as a ghost, but that’s about it. Now it looks like Aykroyd is finally willing to move on without Murray. Hit the jump for more.

With Bill Murray’s film Hyde Park on the Hudson debuting later this year, the comedian has reportedly turned his attention to the 2011 Black List script, St. Vincent De Van Nuys. The Ted Melfi script, which garnered as many votes as Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, centers on a 12-year-old boy whose parents are going through a divorce. He then forms an unlikely friendship with the retiree next door (Murray), a war veteran who goes from leading a life of drinking, gambling and prostitutes to one of an unlikely mentorship. Jack Nicholson had previously been reported as potentially attached to the project. Now, Variety reports that Murray is currently in negotiations with Twentieth Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment.

Meatballs is an above average film that benefits solely from the comedic timing of Bill Murray. Playing a rehearsal version of his character form Rushmore, he’s a camp counselor who befriends a young kid (Chris Makepeace, exuding little other than fresh-facedness) who needs support to make it through the summer. Along the way there’s a small tribute to the snobs vs. slobs universe that Animal House crystallized. Our review of Meatballs on Blu-ray follows after the jump.

With Moonrise Kingdom still in theaters, quirky director Wes Anderson is already putting together a dream cast for his next film. The as-of-yet-untitled picture would feature an ensemble that could include Johnny Depp, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Edward Norton, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe and Angela Lansbury. Murray and Norton currently star in Moonrise Kingdom, while Wilson is a regular in the director’s films. Depp, Law and Lansbury would all be first time additions to an Anderson picture. Brody starred in The Darjeeling Limited and Dafoe previously voiced a character in Anderson’s The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Details, via Twitch, are short at the moment and it’s unclear as to what state any of these casting negotiations are currently in. We will update as more news becomes available.

Dan Aykroyd continues to be the most vocal supporter of the struggling Ghostbusters 3 project. Last summer, Aykroyd rekindled our hopes that the film would shoot in the spring of 2012 with or without Bill Murray’s involvement (which clearly never happened). Then, Aykroyd floated the possibility of recasting Peter Venkman and admitted to needing more time to work on the screenplay by Bad Teacher scribes, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. He more recently confirmed that Murray would have nothing to do with the project. Now it seems as if the writing duo of Eisenberg and Stupnitsky are out as well, as Aykroyd recently commented that a new team was in place. While I admire the man’s tenacity in bringing a suitable project to the screen, I’m beginning to wonder whether or not we should just leave well enough alone. More from Aykroyd after the jump.

Wes Anderson’s latest feature, Moonrise Kingdom, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last week to a wildly enthusiastic response, and now us commonfolk are nearing the chance to check the film out ourselves. The film opens in limited release this Friday, May 25th, and a new featurette has gone online in which star Bill Murray gives a tour of the Moonrise Kingdom under the influence of some tasty Sailor Jerry’s. It’s the kind of featurette that could only happen with Murray involved. Additionally, Shortlist Magazine commissioned a number of posters for Moonrise Kingdom that have turned out splendidly; there’s one done in the style of a record that I absolutely must have right this second.
Hit the jump to check out the featurette and posters. The film also stars Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, and Jason Schwartzman.

The first trailer for the historical drama Hyde Park on the Hudson has gone online. The film stars Bill Murray as President Franklin D. Roosevelt and centers on a weekend in 1939 which marked the first ever visit to America by a British monarchy when King George VI and Queen Elizabeth visited FDR’s upstate New York cottage. Roosevelt also had an affair with his cousin, Daisy, during the same weekend. The trailer basically plays like a funnier version of Downton Abbey, with a great deal of heart thrown in towards the end. Lest you think this is another droll, period drama without a sense of humor, Murray is splendidly fun as Roosevelt.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill), the film also stars Laura Linney, Olivia Williams, Samuel West, Olivia Colman, Elizabeth Marvel, Elizabeth Wilson, and Eleanor Bron. Focus Features will release Hyde Park on the Hudson on December 7th.

Four featurettes for director Wes Anderson’s forthcoming Moonrise Kingdom have made it to the web. And like everything Anderson is involved with, they’re nothing if not peculiar. Each clip focuses in on one of Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, and the director himself. And each is hosted by fellow cast member Bob Balaban, who comments on amusing behind-the-scenes footage of his subjects, exuding Anderson’s trademark oblique humor to parody the overly-earnest educational reels from the ’50s and ’60s. Example: “Edward’s a natural leader,” he proclaims. “Here he is sticking a pencil in the mouth of a khaki scout.” Needless to say, they’re both delightful and informative.
Hit the jump to check them out. Set in 1965, on the fictional New Panzance Island, Moonrise Kingdom finds a pair of 12 year-olds (Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) falling in love and disappearing together into the wilderness. A group of oddball authority figures, including Willis, Norton, Murray, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, and Jason Schwartzman pull out all the stops to find them before a massive storm hits. It arrives in theatres on May 25.

Focus Features has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Wes Anderson‘s Moonrise Kingdom. The featurette does a good job of explaining the plot, and most of the adult cast– Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, and Jason Schwartzman—break down their respective characters. The cast also talks up Anderson’s distinct visual style, but the style is large part of why I’m slightly wary of the film. The movie looks cute and funny, but it also seems like its verging on self-parody. Hopefully, the film’s heart and humor won’t be overshadowed by the style.
Hit the jump to check out the featurette, and click here for six clips from the movie. The film also stars Jared Gilman, Kara Hayward, and Bob Balaban. Moonrise Kingdom will open the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, and open in limited release on May 25th.

Last week we shared two clips from Wes Anderson’s latest feature, Moonrise Kingdom, and now all of the clips released thus far are officially online. There are six clips in total and they’re chock full of Anderson staples. The visuals are gorgeous, the actors look like they’re having a blast, and the camera movements are undeniably Anderson-y. For those unfamiliar, the story centers on a young boy and girl who decide to run away together into the wilderness, and the madness that ensues from the community’s search for the pair. I’m a big fan of Anderson so this one’s been on my radar for a while, and these clips only serve to reinforce my excitement for the film. Let the twee commence!

With writer-director Wes Anderson, nothing is ever very simple. The Fantastic Mr. Fox is not just for kids, Ben Stiller is not just a comedic actor, and these new character posters for Anderson’s latest feature, Moonrise Kingdom, are not just ordinary posters. A batch of seven character posters for the film have gone online, but the catch is that they’re all motion posters with interactive qualities. Moreover, they’re a thing of beauty. The artwork for Anderson’s films is always gorgeous, but these Moonrise Kingdom posters are at once visually appetizing and downright fun.

An international poster for Wes Anderson‘s new comedy Moonrise Kingdom has gone online. The story centers on a young boy and girl who decide to run away together into the wilderness, and the madness of the community’s search for the pair. While I prefer the first poster for the movie, this one has a nice touch by making it clear that the background is a painted backdrop.

Anderson’s stellar ensemble cast is filled out with the likes of Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Bill Murray, and, of course, Jason Schwartzman. These images give us a nice feel for the tone Anderson has in mind, and as a big fan of the writer/director I’m incredibly excited to check the full film out (I included it in the latest installment of our Most Anticipated feature).
