guardians-of-the-galaxy-trailer-set-visit

Last September, when director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy was filming outside London, I got to visit the set with a few other reporters.  While I knew a bit about the diverse characters starring in Marvel’s latest franchise before I arrived, I definitely wasn’t prepared for the size and scope of the movie, or how Gunn and his filmmaking team were preparing to blow open the doors of the Marvel Cosmic universe by introducing tons of new characters and worlds.  Trust me, Guardians of the Galaxy is telling a huge story on the other side of the universe and it’s going to enable Marvel to bring in numerous new elements to their already expanding universe.

During the set visit I got to watch filming, participate in group interviews with James Gunn, Dave BatistaChris PrattKaren GillanZoe Saldana, and many others, and walk through the art department, weapons room, costumes, SFX, and many other behind-the-scenes locations.  From all this I put together a huge list of things to know, recorded a video blog when I got back from set, and have five new images from the prison sequence provided by Marvel/Disney.  Hit the jump for more.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Footage Review: Evan’s Reaction to Marvel Screening 17 Minutes of Footage

by     Posted 108 days ago

guardians-of-the-galaxy-footage-review

I’ve been more excited about Guardians of the Galaxy than I have most other Marvel films for some time now.  I’m a huge fan of director James Gunn (Slither, Super) and the potential for strong authorial voices gets me more excited for tentpoles (see also Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 and Edgar Wright’s unfortunately cancelled take on Ant-Man).  While I generally like Marvel movies, there’s something about the humor in all of the Guardians of the Galaxy promos that I’ve seen that has colluded with my fandom of Gunn to raise my expectations for this film.  So when an invitation came my way to preview 17 minutes of the film in 3D IMAX this evening at the TLC Chinese Theater, I leapt at it despite the fact that I would essentially just be watching 17 minutes of footage I’d be seeing in a more complete context within a matter of weeks.

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee PaceKaren GillanGlenn CloseBenicio Del ToroDjimon HounsouJohn C. ReillyMichael RookerPeter Serafinowicz, and the voices of Bradley CooperVin Diesel, and Josh Brolin.  It opens in 2D and 3D on August 1st.  Hit the jump to read my Guardians of the Galaxy footage reaction!

A few new Guardians of the Galaxy images from director James Gunn’s Marvel adaptation have arrived, as anticipation for the space-set adventure continues to grow.  These new images give us a couple of better looks at titular team members Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), and with the film’s release less than a month away, I’m enthused by how little I feel like I’ve seen from the pic.  Indeed, Guardians ventures into an entirely new area of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I’m eager to experience something fresh and weird following the latest string of sequels.

Hit the jump to take a look at the images, and if you missed our recent character profiles, learn more about the comics history of Star-LordGroot, and Drax at the respective links.  The film also stars Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, John C. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Extended TV Spot Rocks out to “Cherry Bomb” and Has Plenty of New Footage

guardians-of-the-galaxy

The steady stream of Guardians of the Galaxy marketing continues as Marvel has released an extended TV spot for their upcoming sci-fi action film.  The story follows five intergalactic misfits—Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper)—as they set out to protect a powerful and mysterious orb from the villainous Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).  This extended TV spot features plenty of fresh footage for a film that looks better and better.  Also, kudos to Marvel for their song selections when it comes to these ads.  Most movies and TV spots just pull from whatever is topping the iTunes chart.  Guardians is playing classic tunes.  They’ve used “Hooked on a Feeling”, “Spirit in the Sky”, and now “Cherry Bomb”.  Well done.

Hit the jump to check out the Guardians of the Galaxy extended TV spot.  The film opens in 3D on August 1st, and also stars Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz.

New JURASSIC WORLD Behind-the-Scenes Video Featuring Interviews with Stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and More

Today, the NBC’s The Today Show went to the set of Universal’s upcoming blockbuster Jurassic World (corporate synergy!), and spoke with the film’s stars.  The movie takes place 22 years after Jurassic Park and is set on a fully functional park on Isla Nublar.  As star Chris Pratt explains, the park’s revenues are declining, so they bring in a new attraction, “and it doesn’t go well.”  It’s kind of cool that the movie is willing to acknowledge that humanity could come up with a miracle like bringing dinosaurs back from extinction, but eventually we’d all get bored with them.

Hit the jump to check out interview with Pratt, co-stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, and, director Colin Trevorrow, also to get a brief look at the set.  The film also stars Vincent D’OnofrioIrrfan Khan, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, and Judy Greer.
Jurassic World opens June 12, 2015.

Nathan Fillion to Have a “Fun Cameo” in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY; Check out the Film’s Empire Magazine Covers

Many geeks like Nathan Fillion, and they’d probably like to see him play a geekier part than his role on the Castle.  However, they’ll have to shrug and accept the fact that he’ll probably never fill their fan-casting for Nathan Drake or Hal Jordan.  However, he will sneak into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Guardians of the Galaxy.  Initial rumors wanted to give him as huge a role as possible, and he was soon being connected with Nova Prime a.k.a Richard Rider.

However, director James Gunn, who worked with Fillion on Slither, Super, and PG-Porn, went to Twitter to quiet down the rumors.  Hit the jump for more, and to see Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Empire Magazine covers.  The film opens in 3D on August 1st.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: Seven New Images Take Us to Knowhere and Back

Marvel has released seven new Guardians of the Galaxy images.  The story follows five intergalactic misfits—Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper)—as they set out to recapture a powerful and mysterious orb from the villainous Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).  These images were briefly glimpsed in the trailer, but these stills allow us to focus on some cool details like Knowhere looking like a decaying skull.  We also get a close up on Ronan, who makes Pace look unrecognizable, at least from this perspective.

Hit the jump to check out the Guardians of the Galaxy images.  The film opens in 3D on August 1st, and also stars Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz.

Marvel has released a new Guardians of the Galaxy international trailer that features more Rocket Raccoon, less classic rock, and additional focus on the story.  While I was already sold on director James Gunn’s intergalactic adventure, this new trailer will get a lot more regular moviegoers excited for the movie.  As most of you know, the story follows five intergalactic misfits—Peter Quill aka Starlord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper)—as they set out to recapture a powerful and mysterious orb from the villainous Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).

New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Image Featuring Djimon Hounsou as Korath; Plus Hi-Res Character Posters

guardians-of-the-galaxy-image-posters

Following last week’s flurry of character posters, a new Guardians of the Galaxy image has been released from the upcoming Marvel film, revealing an official look at Djimon Hounsou as Korath.  Director James Gunn’s space-set adventure revolves around an unlikely group of outlaws that must work together in order to save the universe, and judging by the emphasis on one specific orb in a number of images and the trailers—and now this Hounsou image—I imagine this is the film’s MacGuffin.  In addition to the close look at Korath, Disney has also released high-resolution versions of the previously released character posters, which provide a closer look at the principal misfits.

Jurassic World is exactly one year away, and so Universal has released three new images from the upcoming sequel.  The movie takes place 22 years after Jurassic Park and is set on a fully functional park on Isla Nublar.  Details are still under wraps, but director Colin Trevorrow says that the film will have new dinosaurs created by the park’s geneticists.  I imagine it will be a while before we see any of the dinosaurs, but it’s still nice to have a first look at Chris Pratt‘s character (he has a motorcycle so that’s how you know he’s cool) and co-stars Nick Robinson (The Kings of Summer) and Ty Simpkins (Iron Man 3).

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Character Posters Give the Spotlight to Star-Lord and Drax

by     Posted 134 days ago

guardians-of-the-galaxy-poster-star-lord-drax

Over the past couple of days, we’ve gotten Guardians of the Galaxy posters for Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) & Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana).  Today, the other two Guardians, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Drax (Dave Bautista) get their character posters.  For those who don’t know, Star-Lord (aka Peter Quill) is a thief who was born on Earth, and Drax is on a rampage after his family was murdered. First, it’s good to know for future reference that “Star-Lord” is hyphenated. Second, I love the red design circling around Drax’s body.  To our comic-savvy readers: Are those meant to be tattoos or is that the way his alien skin looks?  Either way, it’s very cool.

Hit the jump to check out the new Guardians of the Galaxy posters. The film opens in 3D on August 1st, and also stars Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz.

TOP 5: X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Trailer, Gareth Edwards to Direct STAR WARS Spinoff, MAN OF STEEL Sequel Gets Official Title, LIFE ITSELF Trailer

And just like that, my excitement for Marvel’s Ant-Man has been severely diminished. Understanding that making a film of this size is hardly the work of a single person, the loss of Edgar Wright from the director’s chair remains a huge subtraction nonetheless. I’m undoubtedly biased as Wright is one of my favorite working filmmakers, but I can’t see how you let a talent of his caliber walk away from a project that he’s been developing in one way or another for nearly a decade and cite “creative differences” as the culprit. I realize the film industry has brass at the top calling the shots like any other big business, but if I’m made to believe that there are two irreconcilable visions for Ant-Man (Marvel’s and Wright’s) then I can’t help but think that we’ll now be getting the lesser one next July. As unfair as it is, even if the finished product turns out great (which could very well happen), I’ll always wonder how it might have been with Wright at the helm.

All Ant-Man talk aside, this week’s Top 5 features our interviews for and review of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, the news that Godzilla director Gareth Edwards will direct the first Star Wars spinoff, the lengthy official title for the Man of Steel sequel, and the first trailer for director Steve JamesRoger Ebert doc Life Itself. Keep reading for a brief recap and link to each of the above.
