Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson Officially Set to Return for PITCH PERFECT 2

The pieces are very quickly falling into place for Pitch Perfect 2.  We knew Universal had been working on a sequel to 2012’s surprise hit Pitch Perfect for some time, and a couple of weeks ago the studio announced that Elizabeth Banks—who produced and starred in the original—would be making her directorial debut on the sequel.  At the time not much was known about the follow-up but stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson were expected to reprise their roles, and now the official Pitch Perfect Twitter aca-confirms that Kendrick and Wilson have indeed closed their deals to star in Pitch Perfect 2.  The actresses have been plenty busy since the release of the first film, as Wilson leads the ABC sitcom Super Fun Night and Kendrick plays Cinderella in the upcoming Disney musical Into the Woods.

No other cast members for Pitch Perfect 2 have been announced, but expect that to change soon.  Kay Cannon is returning to pen the screenplay, and filming will get underway later this year in anticipation of the film’s prime May 15, 2015 release date.

Elizabeth Banks to Direct PITCH PERFECT 2; Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson Likely to Return

The Pitch Perfect sequel is forging ahead, albeit with a different director at its helm.  Elizabeth Banks, who conceived of the idea for the first film in addition to producing and co-starring in it, will make her feature directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2, replacing the first film’s director Jason MooreTHR reports that Banks will also return in an acting capacity for the Universal Pictures follow-up in addition to producing the pic, with Pitch Perfect stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson likely to return.  Plot details for Pitch Perfect 2 are unknown at this time, but Kay Cannon will also be returning to write the script.

This is a big get for Banks and also excellent news in a world where too few films are directed by women.  The very funny actress/producer has previously directed a few shorts, but Pitch Perfect 2 will be her first time taking the helm of a major feature film.  The first pic was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2012, so here’s hoping the humor and chemistry holds over for the sequel.  Bringing Kendrick and Wilson back onboard is an excellent—and crucial—start.  Watch the trailer for the first film after the jump.

With directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller helming The Lego Movie, I was confident the animated film was going to be something special.  But I will fully admit, the film exceeded my lofty expectations.  Loaded with great animation, a fun story, humor for both kids and adults, and an insanely addictive song (Everything is Awesome) that you’ll be singing again and again, The Lego Movie is truly something special and I’m beyond confident both audiences and critics are going to fall in love with the film.  If you’re not familiar with the movie, it’s been made using a mix of stop-motion and CG animation, and the pic revolves around Emmett (voiced by Chris Pratt), an ordinary construction worker who finds himself anointed “The Special”, a master builder who will lead a band of rebels to save the world from the evil President Business (Will Ferrell).  The film also features the voices of Elizabeth Banks, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Charlie Day, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Alison Brie, and many others.

With the film hitting theaters on February 7th, Warner Bros. has provided us with nine clips.  Hit the jump to check them out.  You can also click here for all our previous Lego Movie coverage which includes posters, images, trailers, and more.

Morgan Freeman Literally Reads the Phonebook in Featurette for THE LEGO MOVIE; Listen to Tegan & Sara’s “Everything Is Awesome”

by     Posted 272 days ago

Those unfamiliar with anything but the title may be automatically wary of The LEGO Movie, but this latest featurette for the film does its darndest to get across the very specific—and fantastic—sense of humor of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.  Instead of having the actors sit and talk about voicing their characters, this nearly four-minute featurette is entirely animated and features each character talking a bit about the film and which “actors” are portraying them.  It’s wonderfully goofy, and if you’ve ever wanted to test out the hypothesis that Morgan Freeman could make even the phonebook sound interesting, this is your chance.  We also get a look at some of the colorful new LEGO worlds that the film explores, so it’s definitely worth a watch.  Additionally, the original song “Everything Is Awesome” by Tegan & Sara and The Lonely Island has been released in its entirety, and it makes a swell earworm for the day.

Hit the jump to watch the featurette and to listen to “Everything Is Awesome”.  The film also features the voices of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson, Will Arnett, Charlie Day, and Alison Brie.  The LEGO Movie opens in 2D and 3D on February 7th.

The first trailer and poster for director Steven Brill’s upcoming comedy Walk of Shame have been released online.  The film centers on a news anchor (Elizabeth Banks) who finds herself out on the street after a drunken one-night stand with no money, identification, or means of travel.  Her shameful trek across Los Angeles is fraught with misadventures as she attempts to make it to a career-changing job interview.  Though the trailer has a bit of a strange pace, it actually looks pretty promising.  Banks has more than proven her comedic chops in plenty of previous films, and she’s surrounded here by what looks to be a formidable ensemble.

TOP 5: THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, OUT OF THE FURNACE Set Visit, Nolan Straps an IMAX Camera to a Learjet, DELIVERY MAN, NYMPHOMANIAC Trailer

Like many others I presume, I can reduce my yesterday down to one common denominator: waiting. Waiting for my Xbox One to arrive in the mail, waiting for the “Day One” update to wrap-up, waiting for Call of Duty: Ghosts to install to my hard drive, waiting for Ghosts‘ mandatory 1Gb update to complete. All told, it was about a two and a half hour process from the time my console arrived at my door until I was able to fire my first virtual shot. Although I’d be lying if I said the delays weren’t tedious, at the end of the day it was absolutely worth it. Microsoft’s next-gen console isn’t perfect, but its ambition and by-and-large its initial execution are pretty damn impressive. Controlling the console via voice commands with Kinect is way smoother than I expected it to be. Directing my satellite television via the console is a feature that I believe, when mastered, I’ll wonder how I ever lived without. And that seems to be the general idea of the Xbox One: to make you reconsider what a video game console can and should do. Even if all of the pieces aren’t in place yet to make it a “must have” (I expect a steady barrage of software updates in the coming days, weeks, months, etc.), I’m having too much fun with it right now to care.

My initial Xbox One impressions aside, this week’s Top 5 includes The Hunger Games: Catching Fire interviews with Jennifer Lawrence and more, Dave’s Out of the Furnace set visit recap, Christopher Nolan strapping an IMAX camera to a Learjet for Interstellar, Delivery Man interviews with Vince Vaughn and more, and a new trailer for Lars Von Trier‘s Nymphomaniac that you’ll likely only feel halfway guilty for watching. Per the drill, a brief recap and link to each of the above rests after the jump.

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for writers/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s new film The LEGO Movie.  The story centers on Emmet (Chris Pratt), an average LEGO minifigure who is mistaken for the most extraordinary person in the LEGO world and is looked upon to save his people from an evil tyrant named President Business (Will Ferrell).  This trailer had me laughing out loud multiple times, which is no surprise when you consider that it comes from the hilariously twisted minds of Lord and Miller, the duo behind 21 Jump Street and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.  Pratt feels like pitch perfect casting as the film’s optimistic hero, and this trailer highlights some excellent use of LEGO’s more recognizable IP’s like Batman and Wonder Woman.  Is it February yet?

Lionsgate has released the final trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  I’m sure the TV spots will probably have a little new footage, but this trailer gives us good pieces of the new arena, but also doesn’t forget to sell the major conflict, which is between Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and President Snow (Donald Sutherland).  It’s almost entirely summed up in the shot where points an arrow at the sky and lets it fly.  Ultimately, this does what every good trailer should do: shows off some good stuff, but doesn’t give away anything major.
