Director James Wan Talks THE CONJURING, Deleted Scenes, Test Screenings, FAST AND FURIOUS 7, and INSIDIOUS 2

by     Posted 1 year, 155 days ago

Director James Wan’s (Insidious) horror film The Conjuring opens this weekend.  The film is based on the story of the Perron family who inhabited a haunted Rhode Island farmhouse in the 1970s.  Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston play the Perrons, and Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson play paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren, who encounter the most horrifying case of their career.  I found the movie to be extremely well done, and I’d definitely recommend checking it out.  For more on the film, watch some clips.

At the recent San Francisco press day, I landed an exclusive video interview with James Wan.  He talked about juggling three projects at once (The Conjuring, Insidious 2 and Fast and Furious 7), the editing process, deleted scenes, the test screenings, and more.  In addition, I got updates on Insidious 2 and Fast and the Furious 7.  Hit the jump to watch.

With his next horror film The Conjuring set to scare audiences this weekend, director James Wan is already gearing up for his next big adventure.  Wan was confirmed for the seventh installment in the Fast and Furious franchise a couple of months back, and started designing the film’s action sequences a month or so ago.  While the action sequences from Fast & Furious 6 are going to be tough to beat, at least we now know what tone Wan is going for with the next film.  It should make a lot more sense to those of you who stuck around to watch the end-credits scene.  Hit the jump to see what Wan has in mind.

by     Posted 1 year, 217 days ago

Fast & Furious 6 is still a week away, it will probably be a monster hit.  Universal has already scheduled Fast & Furious 7 for July 11, 2014, and tapped James Wan (Insidious) to direct.  The series has branched out from its L.A. roots since the third film, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and according to Vin Diesel, Fast 7 will be heading to some exotic locales.

Hit the jump for more, but be aware of spoilers for Fast & Furious 6.

Exclusive: Producer Neal Moritz Talks FAST & FURIOUS 6, 7, and Beyond; Confirms James Wan Is Directing FAST 7 and Says The Rock Will Return

by     Posted 1 year, 242 days ago

As we approach the release of the sixth film in the Fast and Furious franchise, it’s a bit crazy to think that the series is actually at the top of its game this far in.  The worldwide box office total of 2011’s Fast Five doubled that of the second-highest grossing entry in the series, Fast & Furious, and now director Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 6 is poised to be one of the biggest films of a very crowded summer.

Steve recently spoke with producer Neal Moritz for an extended interview, and during their conversation he talked extensively about what fans can expect from Fast & Furious 6 as well as the progress on the very fast-moving Fast & Furious 7, which was recently announced for a summer 2014 release.  Moritz confirmed that James Wan will be directing the next installment and talked about why they chose the Saw director to step into the franchise, and he also assured us that Dwayne Johnson will indeed be returning.  Hit the jump for much, much more.

Vin Diesel Announces FAST & FURIOUS 7 Will Arrive on July 11, 2014

by     Posted 1 year, 248 days ago

We already knew that Universal was wasting no time in moving forward on Fast & Furious 7, and today at the studio’s CinemaCon presentation, Vin Diesel announced that the next installment is due out on July 11, 2014.  No details are known other than filming begins this summer, Diesel will return alongside Paul Walker, and James Wan (Insidious) is set to direct.

While I assume Universal would try to round up cast members other than Diesel and Walker, the involvement of Dwayne Johnson is a bit up in the air.  In a recent interview with Steve, Johnson seemed doubtful that production would begin so soon, but if Universal wants to hit that July 2014 release date, filming has to begin ASAP.  Johnson could be a little out of the loop on this, so either his character won’t be in the seventh installment, or it will be a minor role since filming on Fast & Furious 7 will conflict his shooting schedule on Brett Ratner’s Hercules.

James Wan in Talks to Direct FAST & FURIOUS 7

We learned last week that Justin Lin, the director of the last four Fast & Furious movies, will not return to direct the seventh movie in the series after Fast & Furious 6.  This is a big franchise for Universal—the studio may shoot as early Fast Seven this summer for a 2014 release, but to do so they need a director.  Universal reportedly spoke to Baltazar Kormakur (Contraband), Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2), and Harold Zwart (The Karate Kid) about the job, but Deadline expects James Wan to sign a deal by the end of the week.  Wan made his name as the director of Saw.  His last film was the surprise hit Insidious, and Wan is currently in post-production on Insidious: Chapter 2.

Hit the jump to read what Lin had to say on the choice of Wan, plus a rundown on what we know about Fast & Furious 7 so far.

9 New Behind-the-Scenes Images from FAST & FURIOUS 6

by     Posted 1 year, 261 days ago

fast and the furious 6 behind the scenes

With less than two months until its May 24, 2013 release on Memorial Day weekend, nine new high-resolution images from the upcoming Fast & Furious 6 were just revealed.  Director Justin Lin used this set of photos primarily to showcase the film’s cars, not to mention a few more shots of cast members.  One theme in both batches of released photos is what appears to be a high-speed chase involving a tank that has some sort of rigging built on the front.  Given the intensity of Fast Five’s stunts, which included an incredible train heist scenario, one can only wonder what Lin has up his sleeve with this tank scene. Additionally, riding on the success of its predecessor, Fast & Furious 6 will also have a broader action plot revolving more around heists and car chase sequences than around a street racing subculture.

For a look at the new pictures, shift to the jump.  Fast & Furious boasts a stacked action ensemble of Vin DieselPaul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Joe TaslimSung Kang, Gina Carano, and Luke Evans.

New FAST AND FURIOUS 6 TV Spot Featuring Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and a Badass Tank

by     Posted 1 year, 275 days ago

Tonight’s the night for high-adrenaline TV spots.  We just posted a new glimpse at footage from Iron Man 3 and now a new action-packed teaser for Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 6 is now available.  There are so many military vehicles and a jacked up Dwayne Johnson that I thought this was G.I. Joe: Retaliation for a second, but the presence of Vin Diesel (and a massive tank) set me back on course.

Also starring Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris Bridges, Elsa Pataky, Michelle Rodriguez and Gina Carano,  Fast & Furious 6 opens May 24th.  Hit the jump to watch the new TV spot.

Sneak Peak at the Full Trailer for FAST & FURIOUS 6; Full Trailer Hits at Noon EST

by     Posted 1 year, 318 days ago

Judging by my Twitter feed, people I follow absolutely lost their minds when they saw the Super Bowl spot for Fast & Furious 6.  As I said in my write-up, it looks like the series has finally come into its own, and I’m eager to see what the new movie has in store (other than a car exploding out of a plane).  I’m also eager to see how fans will react when the full trailer goes online later today.  A sneak peek has been released, and it features Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Dom (Vin Diesel) having a conversation.  It’s the vegetables before the triple-fudge-muscle-car-tank-explosion-sundae.

Hit the jump to check out the sneak peek, and check back here at noon EST when the full trailer goes online.  The film also stars Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Joe Taslim, and Luke EvansFast & Furious 6 opens May 24th.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, WORLD WAR Z, IRON MAN 3, and More Planning Ads for Super Bowl XLVII

by     Posted 1 year, 325 days ago

We’ve already revealed teasers for the Super Bowl ads for Oz the Great and Powerful and The Lone Ranger (although the latter is during the pre-game), plus reported on the first look at Fast & Furious 6 as well as the Star Trek Into Darkness app that will start up during the second quarter.  According to THR, there will also be ads for World War Z and Iron Man 3.  Sony, Fox, and Warner Bros. are skipping out on the Super Bowl, and you can’t really blame them since adtime is averaging around $3.75 million.  Personally, I’m most excited for the no-name company that purchases adtime and runs a horribly offensive commercial (there’s always one).  For non-movie ads, there will be the usual suspects the Budweiser Clydesdales, E-Trade’s talking baby, and Danica Patrick for  I also wouldn’t be surprised to see a few Bud Light commercials show up, and those are usually among the best of the night.

Hit the jump for details on the ads.  Super Bowl XLVII begins at 6:30pm EST.

New Image from FAST & FURIOUS 6; Vin Diesel Confirms First Trailer to Premiere During Super Bowl

by     Posted 1 year, 340 days ago

Vin Diesel is ridiculously popular on Facebook (37 million likes), and he’s done a good job at using his page to promote his upcoming projects.  Today, he has revealed a new image from Fast & Furious 6, and he also provided a confirmation that the first trailer will premiere during the Super Bowl on February 3rd.  That’s a scant three months before the film opens, but the Super Bowl is the perfect place to show off a trailer for a movie like Fast & Furious 6.  Presumably, we’ll start seeing some posters soon, and since Super Bowl ad time is ridiculously expensive, a longer trailer should debut online or in theaters soon after the Super Bowl spot.

Hit the jump to check out the new image.  The film also stars Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Joe Taslim, and Luke EvansFast & Furious 6 opens May 24th.

Two New Images from FAST AND FURIOUS 6

by     Posted 2 years, 54 days ago

Vin Diesel loves to show his fans images from his upcoming movies (which reminds me: when are we going to see Riddick?), and he’s now showed off two still from Fast and Furious 6.  Naturally, it shows Diesel playing the hero as he looks cool in front of a sweet car, and hugging a child.  We don’t know much about the film beyond it involving dueling heist crews, but Fast and Furious 6 clearly isn’t just about explosions and cars, people.  It’s got a lot of heart.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Joe Taslim, and Luke EvansFast and Furious 6 opens May 24, 2013.

New Video and Photos from the Set of FAST AND FURIOUS 6; Ludacris Comments on the Upcoming Film

by     Posted 2 years, 83 days ago

Last week, we showed you some photos and videos from the set of Fast and Furious 6, and now more photos and videos have arrived online.  Previously, we only saw some cars and a tank, but this time around we get a full-on crash (intentional, of course).  It loses some of its majesty being shot from a spy-cam, but I’m sure director Justin Lin will cut it together to make it an exhilarating moment for fans of the franchise.

Hit the jump to check out images and video, although this could probably be considered a minor spoiler, so consider yourself warned.  We’ve also included comments about the film from Ludacris, who is returning to play Tej Parker.  The film also stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Joe Taslim, and Luke EvansFast and Furious 6 opens May 24, 2013. [Update: We've removed the unofficial images and video.]

New Set Video and Photos from FAST SIX [Updated with More Videos]

by     Posted 2 years, 93 days ago

Fast and Furious 6 is currently filming in Tenerife, Spain, and photos and video have leaked from the set .  There’s nothing too revelatory about these images other than a tank will be involved at some point.  Tanks are not known for being fast, so clearly, the title no longer makes sense.  This does not bode well for the tight, cohesive plots we’ve come to expect from the films.  As for the video, it shows a behemoth of a vehicle that I don’t even know how to begin to describe.  It would almost look futuristic if it weren’t in drab, military green.

Hit the jump to check out the photos and images.  The film stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Joe Taslim, and Luke EvansFast and Furious 6 opens May 24, 2013.
