Sony has released a new Fury featurette that focusses in on writer/director David Ayer‘s (End of Watch) World War II tank film.  The original story is set in 1945 as the Nazi regime is in collapse, and revolves around the five-man crew of an American tank called “Fury”.  Brad Pitt plays U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Wardaddy, as he leads his unit in the fight against a desperate German army.   I really liked the trailer for this film, and this featurette does a nice job of familiarizing a potential audience with the ensemble of characters.

Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer is due to make its world premiere on Sunday, September 7th at the Toronto International Film Festival so Sony Pictures has been busy dishing out promo material to pave the way to the event.  The film is based on the 80s TV show and stars Denzel Washington as Robert McCall, an ex-CIA agent who comes out of retirement to save a young woman (Chloe Moretz) from the Russian mob.

We’ve shared trailers, TV spots, clips and posters before, but now we’ve got a brand new The Equalizer trailer and poster to throw into the mix as well as two featurettes for the film, one detailing what Washington’s character is all about and another focusing on his specific set of skills.  Hit the jump to check them all out.

Watch: 20-Minute GOTHAM Featurette Delves Deep into the Upcoming Origin Story Series

The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held this coming Monday, which means the 2014-15 TV season is fast approaching.  One of the new shows that many are curious about is Fox’s Gotham.  The series is essentially a Batman origin story without Batman, as it follows a young James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) as he works to clean up the city of Gotham.  The show will introduce a gallery of classic Batman villains from The Penguin to The Riddler to Poison Ivy, and we even get a very young Catwoman.  I’m curious to see how this show can sustain itself if it’s mostly made up of teases and hints and in-jokes (again, Batman will not materialize), and a new 20-minute Gotham featurette offers a behind-the-scenes look at how showrunner Bruno Heller and the cast see this story unfolding.  The constant “wink-wink” nature could get old fast, so hopefully the focus can remain on Gordon without relying too much on references to the more familiar aspects of Batman lore that we’ll never see.

Hit the jump to watch the new Gotham featurette.  The show also stars David MazouzDonal LogueBarbara Kean, Jada Pinkett SmithRobin Lord TaylorCamren BicondovaSean PertweeCory Michael Smith, and Zabryna Guevara.  Gotham premieres this fall on Fox.

With The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Blu-ray and DVD set to be released tomorrow, Sony has released a new featurette from the disc.  This featurette goes into how makeup artist Howard Berger crafted the look for Electro.  As with any good makeup featurette, there’s time-lapse photography, although this featurettes doesn’t tell you how many hours Jamie Foxx had to spend in the chair as he blue himself.

THE MAZE RUNNER Featurette Introduces The Gladers

Admittedly I was hoping this thing was “Meet the Gladers” as in meet the characters of the film, but it’s still nice to see how well the ensemble cast gets along.  Rather than introduce us to Thomas, Gally, Teresa, Minho and Newt, we get to hear about Dylan O’Brien, Will Poulter, Kaya Scodelario, Ki Hong Lee and Thomas Brodie-Sangter’s experience making The Maze Runner, which apparently was a particularly enjoyable shoot.

The film marks Wes Ball’s feature directorial debut and he seems like he was pretty happy on set too, so hopefully the fun of making it winds up translating into a high quality film.  Check out the good times on set for yourself in The Maze Runner featurette after the jump.  The film is set to hit theaters on September 19th and also stars Blake Cooper, Aml Ameen and Patricia Clarkson.

THE NOVEMBER MAN Featurette Goes Inside Pierce Brosnan and Luke Bracey’s Cat and Mouse Game

the-november-man-featurette

Coming on the heels of two trailers (one of them serious, the other more fun) Relativity Media has released a behind-the-scenes featurette for The November Man, director Roger Donaldson’s (The Bank Job) new action thriller.  The film stars Pierce Brosnan as an ex-CIA operative who is brought back in on a personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high-level CIA officials and the Russian president-elect.

It’s definitely a standard feeling featurette, but it actually pulls off the trick of making me want to see the movie more.  It’s nice to see the stunts in process and to get a sense of the history between Pierce Brosnan and Luke Bracey’s characters.  Olga Kurylenko and Eliza Taylor also star. Hit the jump for the new The November Man featurette. The film opens in theaters on August 27th.

CBS Films has released six What If clips along with a behind-the-scenes featurette.  The film stars Daniel Radcliffe as a medical school dropout who strikes up a friendly relationship with a young animator (Zoe Kazan), but they start to wonder if the chemistry between them outweighs her relationship with her longtime boyfriend (Rafe Spall).  I really enjoyed the film when I saw it at TIFF last year (back when it had the better title “The F Word“), and I look forward to seeing it again when it opens later this month.

Hit the jump to check out the What If clips and featurette.  The film also stars Adam Driver, Mackenzie Davis, Megan Park, and Oona Chaplin.  What If opens in limited release on August 8th and expands nationwide on August 22nd.

New STAR WARS REBELS Featurette Takes a Look at the Inquisitor and Voice Actor Jason Isaacs

Last week, we got a Star Wars Rebels featurette focusing on the Imperial Security Bureau’s Agent Kallus (David Oyelowo) aka the “Rebel Hunter”.  This week, we have a featurette for another baddie, the Inquisitor.  Despite the chalk-white face, red tattoos, and yellow eyes, the showrunners make clear that the Inquisitor is not a Sith even though he also has a red lightsaber.  The showrunners also make clear that the Inquisitor has a personality distinct from the saga’s other major baddies, Darth Maul and Darth Vader.  But most importantly, this featurette reveals that the character is voiced by Jason Isaacs, and that alone tells you the character is evil.  I’m sure Isaacs is a lovely human being, but his voice is the sweet sound of vengeful wrath.

Hit the jump to check out the Star Wars Rebels featurette.  The show also features the voices of Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray, and Steven Jay Blum.  Star Wars Rebels premieres this fall with a one-hour telecast on Disney Channel, followed by the full series on Disney XD.

If you don’t know the characters of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy by now, well, all is forgiven since the film doesn’t open until August 1st.  For those of you who want to know as much as you can about each of the renegade team members (short of, ya know, reading the comics), then the studio has you well supplied.  In the case of Zoe Saldana’s character, Gamora, we’ve already seen her character description, poster, and  cast featurette.  We’ve also got our own introduction to Gamora to go along with Steve’s on-set interview with Saldana.  If that’s still not enough, then you’ll be happy to hear that Marvel has released a new extended featurette in which Saldana talks about Gamora, accompanied by new footage from the film.

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy also stars  Chris PrattDave BautistaLee PaceBenicio Del ToroGlenn CloseKaren GillanMichael RookerDjimon HounsonJohn C. Reilly, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.  Hit the jump to watch the featurette.

New STAR WARS REBELS Featurette Focuses on Villain Agent Kallus and His Voice Actor David Oyelowo

Disney has released a new Star Wars Rebels featurette focusing on one of the animated series’ villains, Agent Kallus.  As the featurette explains, he’s a “Rebel Hunter” in the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB), and organization similar to the FBI and military police.  As his voice actor David Oyelowo (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) explains, Kallus’ job is to make sure everyone stays loyal.  This featurette provides a reveal of some of Oyelowo’s voice acting, and he sounds really good.  I never saw Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but I think Star Wars Rebels has the potential to be a good show in its right even though I don’t know how it will compare to the beloved Cartoon Network series.

SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE Trailer & Featurette

sharknado-2-trailer

It’s a safe bet that you didn’t actually watch Anthony C. Ferrante’s Sharknado last year, but it’s equally plausible that you were caught up in the snarknado that took over social media during the movie’s debut.  Now you can get ahead of the game by watching the newly released trailer for Ferrante’s follow-up, Sharknado 2: The Second One.  Slightly more worth your time is a new featurette that sums up the first film in four short minutes, giving you all you need to know about a movie you honestly never need to watch.

Ian Ziering and Tara Reid return to combat the fin-filled funnel of fish, this time in New York, where they are joined by Vivica A. Fox as Fin’s (Ziering) old high school friend, Skye; Mark McGrath as Fin’s brother-in-law; Kelly Osbourne as a flight attendant;  Andy Dick as a police officer; Judah Friedlander as Brian, and poor Judd Hirsch as the taxi driver, of course.  I apologize in advance to everyone who reads this post, and I’m praying for all of those involved in this picture.  The sequel will debut on SyFy on July 30th at 9pm.  Hit the jump to watch the new trailer and featurette.

THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY Featurette: Producers Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey Discuss Fusing Two Opposite Cultures

hundred-foot-journey-featurette

DreamWorks has released a new The Hundred-Foot Journey featurette for director Lasse Hallström’s (Chocolat) adaptation of the Richard C. Morais novel of the same name.  The story centers the rivalry between an Indian restaurant that is 100 feet away from a three-Michelin-star restaurant in France, with the eccentric French chef (Helen Mirren) reluctantly forming a bond with the young Indian boy (Manish Dayal) whose family owns the quaint Indian restaurant.  Based on the trailer, the pic looks to be a nice, international story in the vein of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with a bounty of food porn to boot—and I’m perfectly fine with that.  Not everything needs to be deadly serious or colorfully explosive, and as producers Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey explain in this featurette, the film also touches on the great gaps that surface between cultures and how there’s more that unites us than divides us.

Hit the jump to watch the Hundred-Foot Journey featurette, which is anchored by Spielberg and Winfrey discussing the pic.  The film also stars Om Puri and Charlotte Le Bon and opens on August 8th.

BOYHOOD Featurette: Richard Linklater and Cast Discuss the Process of Making a Film for 12 Years

by     Posted 115 days ago

boyhood-featurette

IFC Films has released a new Boyhood featurette for writer/director Richard Linklater’s wholly unique drama.  The film was shot over a period of 12 years with the same cast, as Linklater set out to fully capture the experience of “growing up” through the eyes of a young boy named Mason (played by newcomer Ellar Coltrane).  I caught the movie at Sundance and it is, quite simply, a masterpiece.  It’s a film absolutely unlike any other, and even though this is Mason’s story, you come away feeling like it’s also your story.  In this new featurette, Linklater, Ethan Hawke, and Patricia Arquette talk about the unique process of making the film and their goals when they started shooting back in 2002.  I cannot stress this enough: see this movie.

Hit the jump to watch the new Boyhood featurette.  The film opens in limited release on July 11th before expanding to more screens in the following weeks.
