It’s time for another round of “Teasers for Teasers” with X-Men: Days of Future Past, and it appears we’ll soon be getting our first official look at the Sentinels.  On his Twitter page, director Bryan Singer tweeted “Something BIG is coming Jan 27,” and it doesn’t get much bigger than the giant robots that are tasked with wiping out mutantkind.  Singer previously shared a set photo of a Sentinel, so we’re not in the dark as to their appearance, and hopefully we’ll now get to see them in action.  Additionally, the X-Men Instagram account says “A full day of #XMen surprises is just around the corner” so perhaps we’ll be seeing more than just Sentinels on Monday.

Hit the jump to see some new footage.  The film stars Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Peter Dinklage, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, and Halle Berry.  X-Men: Days of Future Past opens in 3D on May 23rd.

First Trailer for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for director Bryan Singer‘s sequel/prequel X-Men: Days of Future Past.  The story finds Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) having his consciousness sent back to 1973 in order to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.  This trailer is extremely similar to the footage they showed at Comic-Con this summer (right down to the Hans Zimmer score), which sent Hall H into a frenzy.  It does an excellent job of conveying the darker tone of the film as well as teasing the spectacle that will be on display, and I really can’t wait to see more.

Hit the jump to watch the  X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer.  The film also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Ian McKellan, Patrick StewartPeter Dinklage, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Omar Sy, and Halle Berry. It opens in 3D May 23, 2014.

12 New Images from X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Following yesterday’s teaser for the first trailer, 20th Century Fox has now released twelve new images from Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Days of Future Past.  In the upcoming sequel/prequel, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) has his consciousness sent back to 1973 to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.  These images don’t give anything away, but I quite like them, especially the one where Xavier and Magneto are continuing to play chess even though their friendship has fractured.  It’s an obvious symbol, but still a nice one considering it’s the constant in their relationship.  And if that doesn’t do anything for you, there’s an image of Jennifer Lawrence being adorable on set.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Omar Sy, and Halle BerryX-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23, 2014.

It’s a good day to be a fan of superhero movies.  We just got the first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and now Bryan Singer has released the first footage from X-Men: Days of Future Past. Normally, I’m sour about teasers for trailers, but I’m so excited for people to a glimpse of what was shown at Comic-Con that I’ll make an exception.

Hit the jump to check out the brief footage, and come back on October 29th for the full trailer.  The film also stars Peter Dinklage, Nicholas HoultJennifer Lawrence, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Omar Sy, and Halle BerryX-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23, 2014.

Halle Berry to Star in Steven Spielberg’s New CBS Series EXTANT

by     Posted 350 days ago

Halle Berry is poised to make her television debut in a new drama series from CBS and Steven Spielberg.  The network announced today that Berry will lead Extant, which has been given a straight-to-series order from CBS and will premiere on the network in summer 2014.  The thrilling drama focuses on an astronaut returning home to her husband and son after a year-long solo mission whose experiences in space and home lead to events “that ultimately will change the course of human history.”

Mickey Fisher wrote the script, and the series order is for a 13-episode first season.  The network launched Under the Dome this past summer to stellar ratings (despite less-than-enthusiastic reviews), so clearly they’re hoping for similar success with the sci-fi-sounding Extant.  Spielberg and Fisher will serve as executive producers alongside Greg Walker, Brooklyn Weaver, Justin Falvey, and Darryl Frank.  Berry will serve as co-executive producer.  Hit the jump for the full press release.

Comic-Con: X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Panel Recap; First Footage Revealed and Almost All the X-Men Unite on Stage

Part of me will always love the X-Men.  I watched the animated series when I was in third grade.  I became addicted to collecting the trading cards.  And while some can point to Blade as the beginning of the modern superhero movie, it didn’t truly begin in earnest until Bryan Singer‘s 2000 picture.  It’s not an incredible picture, but it’s satisfying.  The sequel, X2, is one of the best superhero movies ever made.  X-Men: First Class gave the franchise a fresh spark of life, and now it’s all coming together with X-Men: Days of Future Past.  We’ve been wondering if it’s too crowded, but perhaps the question we should be asking is, “Can you have too much of a good thing?”

Hit the jump for my recap of the panel, which included the premiere of the first footage from the movie.  X-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 16, 2014.

By now you probably know that almost the entire cast of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past surprised Comic-Con attendees today.  Just prior to their Hall H appearance, the cast members participated in what might be a Guinness World Record for press conferences.  Attending were director Bryan Singer, writer Simon Kinberg, producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker, plus cast members Evan Peters, Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page and Omar Sy.  It was an amazing once-in-a-lifetime event to witness all of that talent on one stage, although fans will be privy to the experience once X-Men: Days of Future Past hits screens May 23, 2014.  Hit the jump for highlights from the press conference.

THE CALL Blu-ray Review

Director Brad Anderson has a dynamic resume filled with several assured genre films. Usually his work doesn’t make a huge wave upon release, but later acquires a cult following on home video.  Movies like Session 9 and The Machinist, for example.  He’s received his share of accolades and always seems like he’s on the cusp of a major Hollywood breakthrough.  His latest, The Call, is not that gateway film.  Although it’s his highest grossing work, it feels like a step back for him.  At least Sony has given the film a terrific Blu-ray package that contains one of the GREATEST special features in recent memory.  Get the dish on The Call Blu-ray after the jump.

CLOUD ATLAS Blu-ray Review

The Wachowski siblings and Tom Tykwer’s Cloud Atlas was tragically the most under-appreciated and under-seen film of 2012.  It had to be a marketing mishap.  How else do you explain the poor performance of a film that encompasses multiple genres over vastly different time periods with high-caliber actors like Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Grant and Jim Broadbent (just to name a few) taking on multiple roles?  But wait, there’s hope!  You can help remedy this glaring oversight by picking up the ambitious and epic movie on DVD and Blu-ray now.  Hit the jump for my review of Cloud Atlas on Blu-ray.

Production is underway on the sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, but the fact that he’s now busy filming the actual movie hasn’t stopped director Bryan Singer from teasing the superhero pic via photos on Twitter.  We most recently got glimpses of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Shawn Ashmore’s Iceman in costume, and today Singer shared an image of Halle Berry back in character as Storm.  The film melds the casts of Singer’s X-Men films and Matthew Vaughn’s prequel X-Men: First Class, as the DOFP story involves alternate timelines and dystopian futures.

Halle Berry Talks THE CALL, Her Favorite Thrillers, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, and More

by     Posted 1 year, 190 days ago

halle-berry-the-call-interview-slice

Brad Anderson’s The Call, a particularly fine little thriller in the doldrums of March, sports a welcome return for thriller-maven Halle Berry. Sure Berry is a so-called ‘serious actor’; but in between her “Things We Lost In The Fire” and “Monster’s Ball”, she has a penchant for mixing it up with decidedly and proudly ‘B’ pictures. The Rich Man’s Wife, Gothika, Swordfish, Perfect Stranger, Dark Tide… In The Call, the newest and best of this bunch, Berry stars as Jordan Turner – a 911 operator, whose mishandling of a call leaves a young girl dead and Berry/Jordan beyond shaken. Cut to six-months later and Jordan finds herself once again on the other line attempting to help a young girl (Abigail Breslin) out of the clutches of a madman. It’s a difficult role – in that for a majority of the film, Berry is seated behind a computer, on the phone while all the action occurs elsewhere. Ostensibly, Berry is acting and reacting opposite a phone  — and she sells it for all it’s worth. A serious actress indeed.

In the following interview with Berry, she reveals her favorite thrillers, the importance of spelling for 911 operators and how big her role will be in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. For the full interview, hit the jump.
