By now you probably know that almost the entire cast of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past surprised Comic-Con attendees today.  Just prior to their Hall H appearance, the cast members participated in what might be a Guinness World Record for press conferences.  Attending were director Bryan Singer, writer Simon Kinberg, producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker, plus cast members Evan Peters, Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page and Omar Sy.  It was an amazing once-in-a-lifetime event to witness all of that talent on one stage, although fans will be privy to the experience once X-Men: Days of Future Past hits screens May 23, 2014.  Hit the jump for highlights from the press conference.

THE CALL Blu-ray Review

Director Brad Anderson has a dynamic resume filled with several assured genre films. Usually his work doesn’t make a huge wave upon release, but later acquires a cult following on home video.  Movies like Session 9 and The Machinist, for example.  He’s received his share of accolades and always seems like he’s on the cusp of a major Hollywood breakthrough.  His latest, The Call, is not that gateway film.  Although it’s his highest grossing work, it feels like a step back for him.  At least Sony has given the film a terrific Blu-ray package that contains one of the GREATEST special features in recent memory.  Get the dish on The Call Blu-ray after the jump.

CLOUD ATLAS Blu-ray Review

The Wachowski siblings and Tom Tykwer’s Cloud Atlas was tragically the most under-appreciated and under-seen film of 2012.  It had to be a marketing mishap.  How else do you explain the poor performance of a film that encompasses multiple genres over vastly different time periods with high-caliber actors like Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Grant and Jim Broadbent (just to name a few) taking on multiple roles?  But wait, there’s hope!  You can help remedy this glaring oversight by picking up the ambitious and epic movie on DVD and Blu-ray now.  Hit the jump for my review of Cloud Atlas on Blu-ray.

Production is underway on the sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, but the fact that he’s now busy filming the actual movie hasn’t stopped director Bryan Singer from teasing the superhero pic via photos on Twitter.  We most recently got glimpses of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Shawn Ashmore’s Iceman in costume, and today Singer shared an image of Halle Berry back in character as Storm.  The film melds the casts of Singer’s X-Men films and Matthew Vaughn’s prequel X-Men: First Class, as the DOFP story involves alternate timelines and dystopian futures.

Hit the jump to get a look at Storm back in costume, complete with a brand new wig.  The film also stars James McAvoyMichael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Ian McKellanHugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Omar SyDaniel Cudmore, Booboo Stewart, Fan Bingbing, and Peter Dinklage.  X-Men: Days of Future Past opens July 18, 2014.

Halle Berry Talks THE CALL, Her Favorite Thrillers, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, and More

by     Posted 1 year, 41 days ago

halle-berry-the-call-interview-slice

Brad Anderson’s The Call, a particularly fine little thriller in the doldrums of March, sports a welcome return for thriller-maven Halle Berry. Sure Berry is a so-called ‘serious actor’; but in between her “Things We Lost In The Fire” and “Monster’s Ball”, she has a penchant for mixing it up with decidedly and proudly ‘B’ pictures. The Rich Man’s Wife, Gothika, Swordfish, Perfect Stranger, Dark Tide… In The Call, the newest and best of this bunch, Berry stars as Jordan Turner – a 911 operator, whose mishandling of a call leaves a young girl dead and Berry/Jordan beyond shaken. Cut to six-months later and Jordan finds herself once again on the other line attempting to help a young girl (Abigail Breslin) out of the clutches of a madman. It’s a difficult role – in that for a majority of the film, Berry is seated behind a computer, on the phone while all the action occurs elsewhere. Ostensibly, Berry is acting and reacting opposite a phone  — and she sells it for all it’s worth. A serious actress indeed.

In the following interview with Berry, she reveals her favorite thrillers, the importance of spelling for 911 operators and how big her role will be in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. For the full interview, hit the jump.

Director Bryan Singer (X-Men) has added yet another returning star in the jam-packed cast for his upcoming comic book film X-Men: Days of Future Past.  Reports have Halle Berry confirmed to return as the white-haired, weather-manipulating mutant, and joins a cast already composed of many other X-Men alumni.  The actress will be starring alongside other big names such as James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence,  Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Peter Dinklage when the film opens July 18, 2014.  Hit the jump for more info.

Halle Berry Likely to Appear in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Director Bryan Singer (X-Men) isn’t content with rounding up just one group of mutant superheroes for X-Men: Days of Future Past, he needs two.  He’s already got Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin and Shawn Ashmore slated to return, but there’s still the noticeable absence of Halle Berry as Storm.  Having appeared in all three of the original X-Men movies, it would be rather unfortunate if we didn’t see her reunited with the team.  Since shooting is expected to start in April, we should have word fairly soon on whether or not Berry will sign on, but it’s looking positive (don’t hold your breath for James Marsden and Famke Janssen, however).  Hit the jump for more.

New Trailer for THE CALL Starring Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin

A new trailer for director Brad Anderson’s (The Machinist) upcoming thriller The Call has been released online.  The film stars Halle Berry as a 911 operator who, after taking a life-altering call from a teenager (Abigail Breslin) that’s been kidnapped, realizes that she must confront a killer from her past in order to save the girl’s life.  This trailer is a bit more intense and less plot-driven than the first one, and it’s quite effective.  Anderson looks to have crafted a surprisingly involving and potentially frightening thriller, and I’m getting a strong “twisted villain” vibe from this trailer.  Here’s hoping the full film delivers.

Director Bryan Singer is currently doing the press rounds for his epic fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Slayer which opens next month, but he’s doing a bit of multi-tasking as he’s also plenty busy prepping to helm X-Men: Days of Future Past which begins filming soon.  We already know that Singer is bringing back a number of familiar faces from past X-Men films for the First Class sequel, as the story involves time travel and alternate futures.  The filmmaker recently talked a bit more about the project, revealing that he’s considering including an all-CG character in the film and teasing a possible appearance by Halle Berry’s Storm.  Hit the jump for more.
