Identity Thief is the hilarious new comedy, from director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) and screenwriter Craig Mazin (The Hangover 2), that follows what happens to a regular guy when he is forced to extreme measures to clear his name after a woman who loves to live it up steals his identity and ruins his life.  When Sandy Bigelow Patterson (Jason Bateman) is accused of a series of crimes, the innocent man realizes that a woman named Diana (Melissa McCarthy) is using his ID to do and buy whatever strikes her fancy, and decides to track the woman down and confront her, in order to get his life and name back.

At the film’s press day, Craig Mazin spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how he came to the project, collaborating with Jason Bateman on the idea and tone for the film, and how it affects his writing process to know which actors he’s writing for.  He also talked about the experience of being a part of the highly successful The Hangover franchise, whether he and Todd Phillips took the criticism of the second film into account when writing The Hangover Part III, making films for audiences to enjoy, and the animated feature Turkeys (featuring the voices of Amy Poehler, Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson), which he’s writing and producing.

First Trailer and Images for IDENTITY THIEF Starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy

The first trailer for the comedy Identity Thief has been released.  Directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), the movie stars Jason Bateman as an accounts rep who has a week to travel across the country and track down the con artist (Melissa McCarthy) who stole his identity.  Horrible Bosses was a fantastic surprise last year and the pairing of Bateman and McCarthy sounds great, but this trailer is a tad disappointing.  Many of the jokes hinge on physical comedy, so hopefully they’re saving the dialogue-driven stuff for the full film. The caliber of talent involved is promising and McCarthy looks to have put together quite the character, so I’m still eager to see more.

On Season 2 of the Starz original series Boss, Tip “T.I.” Harris plays Trey Rogers, a former gangbanger with designs on a career in City Hall. He is the cousin that Darius (Rotimi) turns to when struggling with his love for Emma (Hannah Ware), Mayor Tom Kane’s (Kelsey Grammer) daughter, and he is the conduit between a local Alderman and the gang that is powerful enough to function as a grassroots organization in the projects.

During this recent exclusive interview with Collider, rapper T.I. talked about the opportunity to be a part of this acclaimed show, how his character will fit into the story, being able to understand who Trey Rogers is, working with Rotimi who also aspires to get into music, what it was like to do a scene with Kelsey Grammer, and how different acting has been from what he expected. He also talked about working in TV versus film, breaking the stereotypes of his rapper persona, having just done his first comedy (Identity Thief with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman), becoming an entrepreneur, and his eighth album, Trouble Man, which he hopes to release by the end of the year. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

You’re driving down the street, and it’s suddenly blocked off.  You notice these weird yellow signs with nonsensical letters or numbers.  There’s unusual glow lighting up a neighborhood you can’t usually see from your house.  What you might have here is a film company shooting in your town.  It happens a lot, and you never know where they might pop up…until now.

The following is a semi-comprehensive list of films currently shooting, what they’re shooting, and where they’re shooting.  We’ll be telling you where you might get to see the very famous, the kinda famous and (if all goes well) the soon-to-be famous. While we can’t list every single movie, television show, or student film in production, you’ll get a pretty good idea of what the heck is going on where all those people are buzzing about.  Want to know where in the world are Matt Damon, Harrison Ford, Sylvester Stallone, Woody Harrelson, and Leonardo DiCaprio? Jon Favreau Joins Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy in IDENTITY THIEF

by     Posted 2 years, 171 days ago

Director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) is busy casting up his next project, Identity Thief, and it appears that he’s added another director to the fray.  Variety reports that Iron Man director Jon Favreau has joined the cast of the comedy, which stars Melissa McCarthy as a woman who steals the identity of Jason Bateman’s character.  Apparently Favreau will play Bateman’s boss.  This isn’t the first time Favreau and Bateman have worked together, as the two starred in the disappointing 2009 comedy Couples Retreat.

In addition to Bateman and McCarthy, Identity Thief also stars Amanda Peet, Jon Cho, and Clark Duke (Kick-Ass).  I was a huge fan of last year’s Horrible Bosses, and I love the idea of Bateman playing the straight man to McCarthy’s sure-to-be unstable character.  Favreau is currently developing his next directorial project, the Disney theme park-centered (and secretive) Magic Kingdom. Production on Identity Thief begins soon, as the film is set to open on May 10th, 2013.

Casting Call: Amanda Peet Joins Jason Batemen in IDENTITY THIEF; Zoe Kazan and Jake Johnson Lead THE PRETTY ONE

We’ve got a couple of casting stories to share with you this afternoon. First up, Variety reports that Amanda Peet is the third person to join the cast of the comedy Identity Thief. Briesmaids star Melissa McCarthy plays a woman who steals a man’s identity (Jason Bateman), and hilarity ensues. Plot details beyond the basic logline are unknown, but Bateman and McCarthy make an enticing comedic pair. Throw the lovely Amanda Peet into the mix and you’ve got yourself the makings of a promising comedy.

I’ve been a big fan of Peet’s work for years, with her stint on the short-lived Aaron Sorkin series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip a standout on the show. Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon is onboard to direct Identity Thief is set to open on May 10th, 2013. Hit the jump for casting news concerning the Black List script The Pretty One.

Universal Sets May 10, 2013 Release Date for IDENTITY THIEF Starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy

Identity Thief has the makings of a pretty successful comedy. It’s got two great leads in Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, an absurdly goofy premise (a woman steals a man’s identity), and Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon is at the helm. Universal must realize they’ve got a potential hit on their hands as well, as the studio (per Box Office Mojo) has set the film for nearly the same release date as last year’s smash hit Bridesmaids: May 10th, 2013. The film will face some considerable box office competition on that date as it squares off against Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Furthermore, it opens merely one week after the release of Iron Man 3 and one week before Star Trek 2.

In addition to starring, Bateman is also producing Identity Thief, and McCarthy’s role was originally envisioned as a male part until Bateman caught the actress’ scene-stealing performance in Bridesmaids. I’m pretty thrilled by the idea of Gordon in the director’s chair, and the thought of Bateman and McCarthy going toe-to-toe is certainly enticing. No word on what type of rating they’re shooting for, but given that both Bridesmaids and Horrible Bosses were successful R-rated comedies, I’m hoping they go with R.
