New Images from the Set of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Reveal Pre-CGI Turtles, Will Arnett, and More Megan Fox

by     Posted: May 10th, 2013 at 7:45 am

A new batch of images from the set of director Jonathan Liebeseman’s (Battle: Los Angeles) reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has landed online, giving us our first look at the actors playing the turtles.  As previously reported, the titular characters will be created using performance capture technology, and in these images we see the film’s cast wearing turtle-shaped mo-cap suits complete with mo-cap shells.  We also get a new look at Megan Fox as April O’Neill and Will Arnett as…a character we don’t know just yet.  It’s admittedly unfair to judge a film like this without seeing what the finished turtles look like, but everything about this reboot just seems really sad.  The prospect of William Fichtner as Shredder is certainly promising, so here’s hoping TMNT is a pleasant surprise.

Interest is running high for Warner Bros.’ upcoming Superman film Man of Steel, and understandably so.  The most recent trailer turned even the most hardened cynics (mostly with regards to director Zack Snyder) into cautious optimists, and early buzz on the film is incredibly positive.  Producer Christopher Nolan’s influence is clearly felt within the pic’s more grounded and serious take on the character, and even though Snyder is the film’s director, many have posited that Nolan had a heavy hand in making the pic.  Nolan himself has previously stated that he was responsible for shepherding the film through development but took a more hands-off approach once actual filming began, and now star Henry Cavill has spoken up to note that Man of Steel is very much Zack Snyder’s film.

More new images from the set of the Marvel sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier have surfaced online, this time giving us a look at Anthony Mackie in costume as Falcon.  While the character isn’t sporting wings in these particular photos, he does appear to be strung up on some sort of wire apparatus against a green screen, so the wings will likely be added in post-production.  Nevertheless, Mackie gives his best “I mean business” face while firing off a few rounds from his handguns.

First Images from BLACK NATIVITY Starring Jacob Latimore, Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, and Mary J. Blige

Langston Hughes conceived of Black Nativity in the 1960s as a euphoric stage musical version of the birth of Jesus with a black cast.  The show is still regularly performed as written, but writer/director Kasi Lemmons (Talk to Me) chose to add material to create a more traditional narrative throughline for the feature adaptation.  In the movie, a single Baltimore mother (Jennifer Hudson) sends her son Langston (newcomer Jacob Latimore) to stay with her estranged parents (Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett) in New York City during the holidays.  While there, Langston falls asleep in the Chistmas Eve sermon and dreams of a “Times Square Bethlehem.”  Latimore says the songbook has something for everyone: “The music is just like the music nowadays.  Some R&B, soulful gospel and a little rap before I go through my spiritual journey.”

To give you an idea of the tone: Mary J. Blige, sporting electrified blonde curls, plays a mysterious guardian angel character named “Platinum Fro.”  That alone should compel you to check out the first images from Black Nativity after the jump.

Collider Goes to C2E2 2013: Over 30 Cosplay Images from the Convention Floor Featuring THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, STAR WARS, MORTAL KOMBAT & More

Following my first Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (otherwise known as C2E2) back in 2011, I wrote that I believed the event had a ton of potential going forward. Having the opportunity to attend again this weekend, even I was surprised at just how much it had grown in only two short years. Granted, this time around I was visiting on a Saturday as opposed to a Friday. That said, in 2011 I was mostly able to enter the convention floor at my leisure without even a hint of a wait. This year, I found myself buried a few thousand deep in a line not terribly dissimilar from ones I’ve encountered at that one convention that’s held in San Diego every summer. I may be wrong, but I can’t help but think that the day of the week I attended isn’t solely responsible for the increased demand.

After the jump you can check out some photographic highlights from my Saturday at C2E2 2013 in Chicago’s McCormick Place. Mostly comprised of Cosplay, some of my personal favorites include Chewbacca sharing a moment with Mega Man, Zombie Robin, Wayne’s World, and a stellar Spawn costume just to name a few. For this and a lot more, join me after the break.

Studio Ghibli was briefly in the news earlier this week with word that Shimizu Takashi (The Grudge, Ju-on) would be directing a live-action adaptation of Eiko Kadono’s children’s fantasy novel Kiki’s Delivery Service.  Today, we’ve got a double-shot of Ghibli: a live-action short film titled Giant God Warrior Appears in Tokyo (Kyoshinhei Tokyo ni Arawaru) from director Higuchi Shinji (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and new images from Hayao Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises.

The first one needs little explanation beyond the title, but it’s fun to see Studio Ghibli getting in on some live-action throwbacks to the days of Godzilla and Ultraman.  As for Miyazaki, The Wind Rises is based on his most recent comic and centers on Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed the Zero Fighter used by Japanese pilots in World War II.  Hit the jump to watch the short and to check out some images from Miyazaki’s new project.
