Star Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold participated in a fan Q&A for The Wolverine today. The duo fielded questions from Wolverine fans all around the world and talked at length about their vision for the film, what fans can expect to see on screen, as well as some of the behind-the-scenes preparation Jackman underwent for this movie. The movie is still in production and Mangold comments that there are still some major pieces to shoot, but they had plenty to talk about!
The Wolverine, also starring Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova, opens July 26th, 2013. Hit the jump for the video, quotes from the Q&A and a brand new official poster!

A new image from The Wolverine has gone online, and it shows off Wolverine’s bone claws. For those unfamiliar with the character (or had the good sense to avoid X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Wolverine’s claws are part of his genetic mutation, but they’re made of bone. They were coated in indestructible adamantium (along with his entire skeleton) as part of the Weapon X program, which took place before he joined the X-Men. While The Wolverine will reportedly have nothing to do with the plot of Origins, it will still acknowledge the X-Men trilogy, and surprisingly, won’t be a prequel to them.
Hit the jump for more and to check out the image. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, and Rila Fukushima. The Wolverine opens July 26, 2013. [Update: We've updated the article with a higher-quality image, which you can check out after the jump.]

New set photos for James Mangold’s The Wolverine, Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake and Dean Parisot’s Red 2 have emerged today. From Wolvie, we don’t get more shots of star Hugh Jackman, but we get a glimpse of Silver Samurai and of the actor playing him (Will Yun Lee). There’s also a stuntman on hand to unleash the first look at Logan’s claws in action. The Oldboy images put star Josh Brolin front and center and shirtless for the most part. Red 2 shows off previous cast members Bruce Willis, John Malkovich and Mary-Louise Parker as well as new additions, Catherine Zeta-Jones and David Thewlis. Pay special attention to Malkovich’s insane attire (he’s fabulous).
The Wolverine bows on July 26th, 2013. Lee’s Oldboy, also starring Samuel L. Jackson and Elizabeth Olsen, opens sometime next year. Red 2 is slated for an August 2nd, 2013 release. Hit the jump to see the set photos.

Though we’ve already seen quite a few photos from the set of director James Mangold’s (3:10 to Yuma) The Wolverine, the first official image of Hugh Jackman as the titular badass has now landed online. Unsurprisingly, Jackman is ridiculously ripped and you can see nearly every single vein in his arm as he flexes his claws. It’s almost hard to look at this image and think, “Yeah, that’s the same guy that was singing in that Les Miserables trailer last week,” but alas, Wolverine and Jean Valjean are one and the same. The image isn’t necessarily revealing, but I’m really eager to see where Jackman and Mangold take the character in this Japan-centric follow-up to X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Last week, director James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) tweeted that the production for The Wolverine was headed to Japan for part two of their shoot. After arriving in the Land of the Rising Sun, a few new photos popped up online: some show star Hugh Jackman sporting Logan’s signature hair style while out and about in Tokyo, and another gives us our first look at model-turned-actress Rila Fukushima as Yukio, a blood-thirsty assassin tasked with killing Wolverine, but who becomes enamored with him. Be sure to check out some previous set photos from The Wolverine here and here. Hit the jump to check out the new photos. [Update: We've also got a first look at Tao Okamoto as Mariko Yashida after the jump.]

The reason I have hope for The Wolverine is because it has distanced itself from X-Men Origins: Wolverine as much as possible. It takes place in Japan so American audiences aren’t used to seeing a superhero movie in that setting. More importantly, the story will have no connection to Origins, and Hugh Jackman said it won’t be overloaded with mutants. Today, Fox has released a brief and official plot synopsis. It doesn’t reveal any major details, although I’m curious how Wolverine will be “forever changed” by the events in this film. He’s already lost his memory, so what will connect this movie to X-Men?
Hit the jump to check out the synopsis along with some tweets from director James Mangold about what’s happening on set. The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, and Rila Fukushima. The Wolverine opens July 26, 2013.

Production on The Wolverine is finally underway, and the images and videos from the set keep pouring in. We previously saw video of an action sequence, images of Hugh Jackman’s new shorter hairstyle for the follow-up, and subsequent images of Jackman on a “Canadian Rockies” set in Australia, where the pic is being filmed. Now images have surfaced that show yet another side of said Wolverine, with Jackman looking plenty disheveled sporting a scraggly beard and unkempt hairstyle. The bulk of the story finds our hero in Japan, but I’m unsure as to how “Hobo Wolverine” fits into the plot.

While these might not be the most flattering set photos of Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine, fans couldn’t care less. We already brought you some concept art and set photos from a “Japanese prisoner of war camp,” but now we have some images from the set in the “Canadian Rockies.” While these photos are actually from the shoot taking place in Australia, it’s been suggested that The Wolverine is following Frank Miller’s early storyline which puts the eventual X-Man in the frozen north tracking a man-eating Grizzly Bear. Hit the jump to see the behind-the-scenes shots.

Just last week, some concept art and the first set photos from director James Mangold’s The Wolverine landed online, and now with production underway some video from one of the film’s more ambitious sets has surfaced. As I know some of you would like to remain spoiler-free for as long as possible, I won’t go into detail here on the front page. Suffice it to say, the story takes place in Japan (where location shooting will also take place) and stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, and Rila Fukushima, with Svetlana Khodchenkova recently entering negotiations to play Viper.

In February 2011, we reported that Jaume Collet-Serra was attached to direct a remake of the classic 1970 Jean-Pierre Melville heist flick Le Cercle Rouge (The Red Circle). Collet-Serra was the latest in long line of directors mentioned for the remake, and he followed John Woo, Johnny To, and John Hillcoat. For those unfamiliar with the flick, here’s Criterion’s synopsis: “Alain Delon plays a master thief, fresh out of prison, who crosses paths with a notorious escapee (Gian Maria Volonté) and an alcoholic ex-cop (Yves Montand). The unlikely trio plot a heist, against impossible odds, until a relentless inspector and their own pasts seal their fates.” It’s an intense flick, but still retains the quiet coolness of Melville’s other work.
Word on the remake has been quiet since Collet-Serra was announced, and now it looks like he’s moved on, and 3:10 to Yuma director James Mangold has taken his place. Hit the jump for more.

After a rather long development that saw Darren Aronofsky sign on and then subsequently drop out of the director’s chair, The Wolverine is now finally heading into production. Under the direction of James Mangold, Hugh Jackman returns as the titular mutant, and the story finds Logan as a stranger in a strange land (ie. Japan). The ensemble cast includes Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, and Rila Fukushima, with Svetlana Khodchenkova recently entering into negotiations to play Viper. Stage work is being filmed in Australia while on location shooting will take place in Japan, and now a batch of images of some under-construction sets and quite revealing concept art has landed online.

Well that was fast. With production on The Wolverine set to begin in a matter of weeks, director James Mangold was closing in on his female lead. Jessica Biel was offered the role of Viper early last week, but we subsequently reported that talks between Biel and 20th Century Fox broke down and she would no longer be taking the role. Now, just a couple of days later, it appears that Svetlana Khodchenkova has entered talks to take over the part opposite Hugh Jackman. Hit the jump for more.

Early reports have 7th Heaven alumna Jessica Biel having been offered a role in The Wolverine. We recently reported on a slew of casting additions to James Mangold’s (Walk the Line) film starring Hugh Jackman in the title role. Now it looks like a major player in the plot may have been cast. Biel is reportedly being offered the role of Viper, a character often found conflicting with The Avengers as a high-ranking officer in Hydra, but one that has a complex backstory with Wolverine as well. Hit the jump for more on Biel’s potential role.

Those of you who were worried that The Wolverine cast would be white-washed can put your fears to rest. A slew of new casting additions include two veteran actors and two relative newcomers to the screen, all of Japanese descent. Hiroyuki Sanada (The Last Samurai) and Hal Yamanouchi (The Way Back) will be joined by Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima. The latest additions to director James Mangold’s The Wolverine will join Hugh Jackman, who is starring in the title role. We previously reported that Japanese talent would be featured in the film, which will shoot on soundstages in Australia starting this August along with on-location shots scheduled for Japan.
