EPIC Behind-the-Scenes Preview with Director Chris Wedge Reveals a Battle Between Life and Decay in a Magical Hidden World Right Beneath Our Noses

With director Chris Wedge’s animated adventure comedy Epic set to debut at the end of May, we were recently granted a behind-the-scenes preview of the Blue Sky and 20th Century Fox production.  While the trailer gives a nice idea of the world the film exists in, the footage we were shown – some of it still a work in progress – was absolutely beautiful.  On a storytelling note, many have drawn comparisons between Epic and that of 1992′s FernGully: The Last Rainforest and 1989′s Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and those comments are certainly not unfounded.  Though Epic is aimed at audiences too young to have seen either of those films when they opened, there is much more to the story here than just a rehashing of familiar elements.

New Trailer for EPIC Featuring the Voices of Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, and Colin Farrell

A new trailer has been released for the animated film, Epic.  The story tells of a hidden land deep in the forest where the battle between the forces of good and evil continues under our very noses.  A teenage girl is magically transported into their secret universe by shrinking down to their size, where she must combine forces with an assortment of colorful characters in order to save both worlds.  This trailer doesn’t give me much hope for the movie.  The main focus is “Look at all the celebrities we gathered to do voice work!”  Instead, that voice work comes off particularly distracting at points since I’m not seeing characters but seeing Aziz Ansari and Christoph Waltz in a recording booth.

Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis have signed on to star in the Universal Pictures thriller One Night on the Hudson, with Bosses director Seth Gordon attached to take the helm.  The story centers on a straight-laced rookie cop and his jaded veteran partner as they are tasked with transporting a federal witness from New Jersey to Manhattan, only to encounter a number of obstacles along the way.  Gordon will be working from a spec screenplay by T.J. Aaanndd… they’re back!  Made at around $35 million and grossing north of $209 million worldwide, it’s no joke calling Seth Gordon‘s 2011 workplace comedy Horrible Bosses a hit.  Starring Jason BatemanCharlie Day and Jason Sudikis as down-trodden buds who plot to kill their maniacal bosses, studio New Line justifiably wanted a sequel despite the premise feeling somewhat sequel proof.  Well, when there’s a will, there’s a way as the principal cast will return for Horrible Bosses 2.  Though when that will involves hefty sums of money for the film’s stars, sometimes everyone involved has to wait.  And now, after more than a half a year of negotiations things look bright for more “boss-bashing.”  Hit the jump for more.

We have word that Shawn Levy (Real Steel) is stepping in to direct the ensemble comedy,  This Is Where I Leave You as a replacement for Adam Shankman (Rock of Ages).  Shankman was attached to the Warner Bros. film as recently as this past summer, but he departed the picture along with star Jason Bateman.  The studio then put the picture in limbo, but have recently entered final negotiations with Levy to direct.  The original cast also featured Jason Sudeikis, Malin Akerman, Zac Efron and Leslie Mann, but it’s not yet clear whether their schedules can accommodate the shoot.  Hit the jump for more.

The first images from the R-rated comedy omnibus Movie 43 have gone online.  The film has been in development for years since it takes a while to find time in the schedules of a gigantic cast whose ranks include Emma Stone, Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Terrence Howard, Halle Berry, and Jason Sudeikis just to name a few.  The films in the collection were directed by Brett Ratner, Elizabeth Banks, Mike Judge, Peter Farrelly, Bob Odenkirk, Steve Baker, Damon Escot, and more.  While I’m sure the collection will be a mixed bag, these images show off the potential for some hilarious short films.  There will also be a major plotline, but Farrelly, who also produced the film with Charlie Wessler, wouldn’t tell EW what it is.

THE CAMPAIGN Restricted Trailer Features More Family Confessions at the Dinner Table

A new restricted trailer for director Jay Roach’s The Campaign has debuted.  The political comedy features Will Ferrell as a slick incumbent who is at odds with the oddball dark horse (Zach Galifianakis) in a Congressional election race.  While you can learn a lot about the film from our recent set visit and interviews with Ferrell, Galifianakis and Roach, the new restricted trailer goes back to the old Ferrell comedy stand-by: the family dinner table.  It’s not quite as funny as the kids from Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, but there are some good one-liners.  Hit the jump to check out the new restricted trailer before The Campaign comes to your town on August 10th.
