JUSTIFIED Episode Recap: “Where’s Waldo?”

Justified showrunner Graham Yost says this season’s extended fugitive arc would take up a good chunk of season 4 – reducing the number of one episode stories and dipping our beloved crime show into the mystery genre.  This week, the metaphorical rug was pulled out from under us as we learned (in a real “pain in the ass” way) who the real fugitive is.  This quest into Arlo’s criminal past will surely lead to some grim places for Raylan, but for now Yost and co. are still having plenty of fun introducing more of Harlan’s unruly shit kickers and a tough-as-nails pugilist.  Put down the bottle and hit the jump for our recap of “Where’s Waldo?”

JUSTIFIED Episode Recap: “Hole in the Wall”

The slate’s wiped pretty clean going into season 4 of Justified.  After the all-out war of season 3, there’s plenty of room for heroes and villains alike to step up and stake their claim of east Kentucky.  The previous season ended on such a down note for Raylan, so you’d think this season would start off with a subtle build for our beloved hero.  But Justified kicks off its new year with Raylan and the rest of Harlan’s rogues gallery up to their old tricks, violence, and rapid-fire banter.  Hit the jump for more on the season 4 premiere of Justified.

Timothy Olyphant Talks JUSTIFIED Season 4

Based on the works of crime novelist Elmore Leonard and developed for television by showrunner Graham Yost, the FX drama series Justified is back for Season 4.  This time around, U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) will start to unravel the mystery of a more than 30-year-old cold case that connects back to his criminal father’s (Raymond J. Barry) bad dealings.  The show also stars Walton Goggins, Nick Searcy, Jacob Pitts, Erica Tazel and Joelle Carter.

During this recent interview to discuss what to expect from the show this season, actor/producer Timothy Olyphant talked about how involved he is in the development of each season, how much it means to him that they have Elmore Leonard’s approval, that Raylan is bound to cross paths with Boyd Crowder again, how each of these characters has their own moral code, what a joy it is to be able to deliver such great dialogue, what keeps Raylan from becoming as crooked as all the criminals in Harlan, what viewers can expect from the addition of Patton Oswalt this season, balancing the tone of the subject matter, and whether he’d ever consider directing an episode of the series.  Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

A Primer on JUSTIFIED Season 3 Before We Start Recapping Season 4

One of TV’s most badass and clever shows, Justified, returns with its fourth season on Tuesday, January 8.  This time around, Collider will be doing recaps each week, as well as some other fun Justified related stuff.  But before we return to the moral chaos of eastern Kentucky for season 4, let’s take a look at where the heroes and villains of Justified currently stand.

Season 2 set the bar incredibly high.  The arc of the Bennett clan and the coal mining industry added a lot of flavor and depth to the Justified universe.  Season 3 wasn’t as deep, but there sure as hell were a lot of twists, turns, and colorful new characters to fill any void left behind in the wake of apple pie moonshine.  The playing field expanded too, as we were introduced to Noble’s Holler and its seedy BBQ enthusiasts led by Mr. Ellstin Limehouse.   More after the jump.

Walton Goggins Talks DJANGO UNCHAINED, Deleted Scenes, the Casting Process, JUSTIFIED Season 4, and Future Projects

Legendary director Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained is exactly what the trailer promises – exciting, violent, satirical, vengeful and shocking – for the entire 2 hour and 45 minute run time.  Starring Jamie Foxx as a newly freed slave who sets out with an unlikely partner (dentist-turned-bounty-hunter Christoph Waltz) to find and rescue his wife (Kerry Washington), Django Unchained follows the duo as they track her to a plantation owned by vicious playboy Calvin Candie (a ferocious Leonardo DiCaprio), whose long time family slave, Stephen (an almost unrecognizable Samuel L. Jackson), is also out for blood.  Fans of the director will not be disappointed; this film is everything we hoped for and more.  Click here to watch three clips and here’s all our previous coverage.

When we spoke to Walton Goggins (who plays a cruel and sadistic enforcer on the Candie plantation) he talked about his initial reaction to finding out he would be in the film, some of the films Tarantino showed the cast that stuck with him, and a five-page scene with Leonardo DiCaprio that was cut.  He also told me about future projects including G.I. Joe 2, the next season of Justified and a few other possibilities.  Hit the jump to watch.

As part of the TCA Press Tour presentation for FX, President & General Manager of FX Networks John Landgraf took some time to talk about their current hit series, new shows, and what they see as possibilities for their future line-up.  During the interview, he spoke about the status of American Horror Story as a mini-series and the differences in Season 2, the positive futures for both Wilfred and Justified, the possibility of the back 90 episode pick-up for Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management, why Sons of Anarchy always gets overlooked for Emmy Awards nominations, whether Powers might still make it to the air, and their pilots for The Americans (starring Kerri Russell), Bronx Warrants (from Denis Leary and Jim Serpico) and The Bridge (based on the Danish series of the same name).  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

2012 TCA Award Nominations – BREAKING BAD, GAME OF THRONES, HOMELAND, MAD MEN, and DOWNTON ABBEY Vie for Program of the Year

Yesterday we brought you the Critics’ Choice Award nominees.  Tonight belongs to the Television Critics Association.  Homeland tops the list with 4 nominations.  While it got the extra boost over established veterans in the Outstanding New Program category, the taut thriller earned its spots in Best Drama and Program of the Year as well as the nod to Claire Danes for her stellar performance.  The critics understandably still love Breaking Bad and Bryan Cranston, Mad Men and Jon Hamm, Louie and Louis C.K., Game of Thrones and Peter Dinklage, Parks and Recreation and Amy Poehler.  Creator/star Lena Dunham is the freshest face in the bunch, representing in both Individual Achievement in Comedy and Outstanding New Program with Girls.  But as always, there are a few head-scratchers.  Jessica Lange for American Horror Story is a legacy vote, and while her scenery-chewing was very entertaining—for Individual Achievement in Drama?  No.  And Smash somehow sneaked into Outstanding New Program rather than, say, Veep or Awake.

Still, the TCA always gets more right than they do wrong, especially with their neat Heritage Award.  (This year’s eclectic contenders are Cheers, Lost, Saturday Night Live, Star Trek, and Twin Peaks.)  Read the full list after the jump.

Mykelti Williamson Talks JUSTIFIED Season 3

Developed by Graham Yost and based on the works of crime novelist Elmore Leonard, the hit FX drama series Justified has proven itself to be one of the strongest written and best acted shows on television. One of the new additions for Season 3 has been actor Mykelti Williamson, as the mysterious Limehouse, a man who knows enough secrets to make almost everyone in Harlan uncomfortable.

During this recent interview about his role on the show, Mykelti Williamson talked about not knowing whether or not he’ll be returning next season, the fun of being kept in the dark about where things are going, what he thinks of his character, how much he enjoys watching the show as a viewer, his favorite scene in the finale, and that he keeps a character Bible of his own potential storylines that he hopes to suggest, should he return. FX Orders Fourth Season of JUSTIFIED

by     Posted: March 6th, 2012 at 12:18 pm

While Fox may have gotten rid of Terra Nova to the chagrin of some sci-fi fans, the crime thriller fans should be pleased with the media giant as their cable channel FX has just renewed Justified for a fourth season. Six new episodes remain in the currently airing third season with the finale coming on April 10th, but the network already knows that it wants more of Timothy Olyphant as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens.

Series creator Graham Yost says, “There are many reasons all of us on Justified are grateful to get a chance to do another season. We get to do more work with amazing actors, writers, producers, directors, musicians, editors and a jaw-droppingly talented crew.  We get to keep doing a show that appeals to a wide demographic: people in Harlan, retired US Marshals, criminals (we honestly did hear that), and, most happily, our guide, our muse, Elmore Leonard.  Best of all, we get to keep doing a show on FX (and while that may sound like craven ass-kissing, when you look at their roster, you can’t help but feel grateful to be on that list).” For the full press release including publicity fluff from the network and ratings, hit the jump.

On FX’s drama series Justified, actress Joelle Carter plays Ava Crowder, the woman behind enigmatic bad boy Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins). Now that the two are right in the thick of Harlan’s criminal activities Ava has chosen to go all-in, standing beside and supporting her man.

While at the TCA Winter Press Tour, Joelle Carter sat down with Collider for this exclusive interview about how her character has been evolving, finding her place among all of the men in Harlan, what Ava’s goals are now, working with both Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins, wanting to continue to do work of equal quality, her desire to direct, and the hope that she’ll get to do some comedy. Creator/Executive Producer Graham Yost Talks JUSTIFIED Season 3; Hopes to Have Patton Oswalt and Eric Stonestreet Guest Star

Developed by Graham Yost and starring Timothy Olyphant, Justified is based on the works of crime novelist Elmore Leonard. As Season 2 ended the Bennett family’s hold over Harlan County and marked the return of Raylan’s (Olyphant) old nemesis/friend Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) to the criminal life, Season 3 picked up with him finding out that he and his crew aren’t the only ones making a play to rule the Harlan underworld. Now, Raylan finds himself dealing with a pregnant ex-wife (Natalie Zea) while facing off against dirty politicians, a mysterious man named Limehouse (Mykelti Williamson), and an enterprising criminal from the Motor City (Neal McDonough).

While at the TCA Winter Press Tour, showrunner/executive producer/writer Graham Yost talked to Collider for this exclusive interview about where this season is headed, how the new criminal element will affect things, that he’s hoping to get Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) and Patton Oswalt (Young Adult) on as guest stars since they’re both big fans of the show, the pressure of not repeating yourself while living up to what fans expect, and how far ahead they plan out where things are going with the story. Walton Goggins Talks JUSTIFIED Season 3, Working with Daniel Day-Lewis on LINCOLN, G.I. JOE: RETALIATION and More

by     Posted: January 25th, 2012 at 9:31 am

Walton Goggins is one of my absolute favorite actors, and people, on the planet. After playing the always riveting and often explosive Detective Shane Vendrell on The Shield, he went on to accomplish the impossible by topping that performance with his current one as the enigmatic Boyd Crowder on the FX drama series Justified, opposite Timothy Olyphant. And when he’s not on that show, he’s mixing it up with various roles in feature films, in genres that are all over the map.

While at the TCA Winter Press Tour, Collider got to sit down with the intriguing, fascinating and super-dedicated actor for this exclusive interview about the journey that Boyd Crowder will take in Season 3, how his character has finally accepted that this is his life and his making the most of it, what his relationship with Ava (Joelle Carter) has meant to him, and how great it’s been to develop the unique and unpredictable back-and-forth that Boyd has with Raylan Givens (Olyphant). He also talked about the experience of working with someone as dedicated as Daniel Day Lewis on Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, how much fun he had on G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and how excited he is about working on Django Unchained with Quentin Tarantino, who he’s been a fan of for 20 years.
