The first trailer for Riddick is now online. It’s been a long wait for such a short teaser, but it’s got everything you crave in a Riddick movie: Vin Diesel, fearsome creatures, eyeshine in the dark and stone-cold one-liners from the titular anti-hero. There’s not much in the way of plot (or co-stars) revealed here, but the tone is spot on.
Also starring Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff and Dave Bautista, writer/director David Twohy’s Riddick opens September 6th. Hit the jump to watch the first trailer.

Paramount has released a new international trailer for J.J. Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. It’s got everything we’ve seen in earlier trailers and a lot more. This time around, we get the action sequences in the presumed order they’ll appear in the full feature which gives us a much better sense of story. The trailer also shows that Kirk (Chris Pine) is taking things much more seriously than he did in the first film. There are also plenty of quips from the fantastic supporting cast (and a hot shot of a barely-dressed Alice Eve as a bonus) that show the crew can still keep some levity amidst all the doom and gloom. Oh, and Benedict Cumberbatch is positively venomous. This is how you release a new trailer!
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Bruce Greenwood. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in IMAX 3D on May 15th, and in 2D and 3D on May 17th.

Star Trek‘s J.J. Abrams has wisely added Trek alum Karl Urban and Friday Night Lights star Minka Kelly to the cast of his Fox pilot. The new series, called Human, is described as an action-packed buddy cop show set in a future where all LAPD officers are being partnered up with highly evolved human-like androids. TV Line reports that Urban will play a character named John Kennex, a respected police officer who has shut down emotionally after a tragic mission left him critically injured. Hit the jump to find out more casting news for Human.

A new teaser trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness has gone online and showcases about as much action and wit as you can cram into a runtime of just over a minute. While the first trailer and first teaser seemed to rely on setting up Kirk and John Harrison’s feud, this latest entry is for the most part Kirk/Enterprise-centric. The entire cut is entertaining but the highlight for me has to be Kirk acknowledging his own status as a “pain” to his superiors.
Check out the trailer after the jump. Starring Chris Pine, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Zoe Saldana, Peter Weller, John Cho, and Noel Clarke, Star Trek Into Darkness opens in 3D and IMAX on May 17th.

While it may not have been a box office success, Pete Travis’ Dredd is getting a much fairer trial on home video having topped the Blu-ray and DVD sales list for a 2012 new release. Dredd has also come in first in this week’s digital downloads. It’s great to see the film getting new life after its theatrical release, especially since it’s much closer to the version of Judge Dredd that fans wanted to see. Karl Urban (Star Trek) is the law and deserves another go-round as the titular peacemaker. You can check out Phil’s review of Dredd 3D here along with Bill’s glowing review of the Blu-ray. Hit the jump to watch the trailer and see how you can get your hands on a copy of Dredd.

Dredd was one of my biggest surprises last year. There’s a straightforward nature to the film that never lets up. The action is right in that sweet spot of new and familiar. However, the best part of the film is what separates it from its predecessor: a main character that doesn’t smack of cheesy popcorn films. Sylvester Stallone‘s variant had a goofy sidekick and lots of helmetless Dredd, which is an egregious change from the comics its based. This time there is no useless and goofy sidekick along for the ride and Dredd, played here by the excellently-cast Karl Urban, keeps his helmet on. Then there’s the 3D aspect that doesn’t play by normal conventions and some shocking violence that is made all the more beautiful by the slow-mo drug and third dimension. This feels like the film 2000 AD fans have been waiting for, and even as a newbie you can find a lot here to sink your teeth into. Hit the jump for my full review of the disc and why the special features leave you wanting more.

We have some new images pulled from the latest trailer for director J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness. This time around, we get a great look at individual shots of the principal cast members, as well as some clean pictures of the USS Enterprise’s interiors alongside alien worlds. The images also raise a few questions concerning the plot, such as: why is Noel Clarke’s character crying and dropping a ring into a glass, and why is Alice Eve screaming so much?
Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Bruce Greenwood, Star Trek Into Darkness opens May 17, 2013. Hit the jump to scope out the new images.

A new trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness has gone online. Unlike the previous teaser, this one is far more melancholy as we hear Pike (Bruce Greenwood) tells Kirk, “There’s greatness in you, but not an ounce of humility. But there’s going to come a moment when you’re wrong about that. And you’re going to get yourself, and everyone under your command, killed.” From there, we see the epic action director J.J. Abrams is going to unleash. Details on the story are still scarce, but a teaser trailers never give those away. They’re meant to entice, and this new trailer is even better than the first one.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, and Noel Clarke. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in 3D on May 17, 2013. [Update: Hidden in the trailer is the key to launch the film's viral campaign. More after the jump.]

You’ve seen the announcement trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness and you want more. You’re clicking to see if there’s any way you can still get tickets to IMAX screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey because they’ll show the first 9 minutes of the movie. You’re building a time machine to jump forward to December 17th when another trailer will launch. For now, you can enjoy 15 more seconds of footage from the upcoming flick. No, it doesn’t tell you the name of the villain, because that would ruin the entire picture (apparently). But it does have a bit of a callback to the most popular Star Trek film ever made.
Hit the jump to check out the Japanese trailer, which contains 15 more seconds of footage. The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, Noel Clarke, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in 3D and IMAX on May 17th, 2013.

The first trailer for director J.J. Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness has been released. Benedict Cumberbatch takes control from the get-go with a narration over a sequence of increasingly dramatic scenes. The rest of the crew get a few seconds of face-time apiece, but action, destruction and Cumberbatch rule over this trailer. While there are no glimpses of space shown, there appears to be at least three separate terrains to keep our heroes busy. And it looks as if someone has lost control of the Starship Enterprise…

Last month, we confirmed that David Twohy‘s Riddick would be getting an R-rating. Today, Twohy has announced that he’s hard at work on post-production, and he’s released a look at the official logo as well as the first image of Karl Urban as Vaako. Regarding the logo, this may not be the logo for the final film. Productions usually cook up their own logo for the movie their working on, and then the studio will usually tweak it or redesign it completely so that it fits in better with the advertising materials. As for Vaako, it looks like he won’t be able to escape the blue filter that haunted him in Chronicles of Riddick.
Hit the jump to check out the logo and image. Riddick also stars Vin Diesel, Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk, Keri Hilson, and Bokeem Woodbine.

The first clip for director J.J. Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness has been released. It features star Zachary Quinto in costume as Spock, donning a protective suit as he is seen in the heart of a volcano. Fair warning: the clip is a literal blink of an eye since it’s three frames long. Abrams and Conan O’Brien had a big laugh at the expense of all of us nerds (and tired bloggers) out there, but we’ll take what we can get.
