TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2 Cleans Up at Razzies with 7 Awards Including Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Actress

While the 85th Academy Awards will honor the very best of what 2012 had to offer in film tonight, the opposite end of the spectrum (supposedly) has been singled out this morning.  The Razzie Awards named The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 the Worst Picture of 2012, handing the film a total of seven awards including Worst Director for Bill Condon, Worst Screen Couple for Taylor Lautner and Mackenzie Foy, and Worst Actress for Kristen Stewart (she shared this award with her work in Snow White and the Huntsman).  Though I’m not the biggest fan of the franchise, if you think Breaking Dawn – Part 2 was the worst film of 2012 then you need to see more movies; the pic almost kind of works because of Condon’s direction, not in spite of it, and the final battle scene is legitimately entertaining.

Elsewhere at the Razzies, Adam Sandler was named Worst Actor for That’s My Boy and Rihanna “won” Worst Supporting Actress for Battleship.  Hit the jump to see the full list of winners.

We already learned that Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Samuel L. It’s been seven years since director Steven Shainberg’s last picture (Fur) and over a decade since Secretary, but it looks like his newest project is getting a leg up with some A-list cast additions.  Kristen Stewart (Twilight) and Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games) have joined The Big Shoe, Shainberg’s newest erotic comedy that combines foot fashion and fetishism.  The picture already stars Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas) in the lead role of a gifted shoe designer pressured into mass producing his designs as knock-offs.  Hit the jump for more.

Watch the Awkward “Morning After” Deleted Scene from THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 Extended Edition Blu-ray

Before we get to the home video release of the final installment in the Twilight franchise, Breaking Dawn – Part 2, Lionsgate is readying the release of an extended edition of Part 1 on Blu-ray.  We recently learned that the extended edition includes 8 minutes of deleted and extended scenes put back into the film, and today one such scene has been released online: the “morning after” sequence.  As you may or may not be aware, the entire plot of Breaking Dawn – Part 1 consists of Kristen Stewart’s Bella and Robert Pattinson’s Edward getting married, bumping uglies, and having a baby.  This new scene, which I can only assume was deleted because of its alarming awkwardness-factor, features the two characters conversing over breakfast the morning after Edward deflowered Bella, breaking the bead in half in the process.

Hit the jump to take a look at the clip, and click here to read the Blu-ray details.  The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 Extended Edition hits Blu-ray on March 2nd.

2013 Razzie Nominations Announced; TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2 Gets Nominated in Every Category

As we await the 85th Academy Award nominations announcement on Thursday morning, we now have a look at the opposite end of the 2012 film spectrum.  The 33rd Golden Raspberry Award nominations have been announced, celebrating the very worst of what 2012′s movie slate had to offer.  Leading the pack is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 with 10 nominations, as the film landed a nomination in every single category.  The Twilight closer will go head-to-head with Battleship, A Thousand Words, That’s My Boy, and The Oogieloves in Big Balloon Adventure for the Worst Picture title.

It’s easy to beat up on the Twilight franchise, and even though I wouldn’t go so far as to call Breaking Dawn – Part 2 a good movie, it’s in no way the worst movie of the year.  The sheer amount of beheadings alone in director Bill Condon’s climactic fight sequence is enough to make the movie worth watching.  Anyway, hit the jump to check out the full list of Razzie Awards nominations.

Kristen Stewart Confirms Return for SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN Sequel

As Universal plans to move forward with their Snow White and the Huntsman sequel, it appears as though Kristen Stewart will return to reprise her title role. The status of the cast and crew of the sequel has been up in the air owing in part to a rumored affair between Stewart and director Rupert Sanders. Universal had optioned Stewart and co-star Chris Hemsworth to two more films: a sequel and a Huntsman spin-off, but Stewart herself recently confirmed that she will return in the sequel at least. ON THE ROAD Review

[This is a re-post of my review from the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.  On the Road opens today in limited release.]

Jack Kerouac‘s On the Road is a novel that inspired a generation of restless young men and women to break free from their comfort zones, broaden their horizons, and look to the majesty of America. Walter SallesOn the Road is a film adaptation that will inspire a generation of lazy high school kids to watch the movie instead of reading the book. Salles snaps up the words of Kerouac’s novel, but not their spirit. The movie shouldn’t simply regurgitate the book because adaptation should be a work of inspiration and not imitation. But there’s nothing inspired about Salles’ picture. It’s safe where it should be dangerous. It’s lugubrious when it should be explosive. It’s derivative when it should be daring. Despite glimmers of an emotionally moving story, On the Road rarely has the energy to get up and bravely venture forth beyond the plot constraints of a book that’s not driven by its plot.

Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund Talk ON THE ROAD, Watching Nude Scenes with Parents, and TWILIGHT Fans

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries) and based on the iconic novel by Jack Kerouac, On the Road tells the provocative story of Sal Paradise (Sam Riley), a young writer whose life is shaken and ultimately redefined by the arrival of the free-spirited and fearless Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund) and his girl, Marylou (Kristen Stewart). As they travel across the country on a personal quest for freedom from the conformity and conservatism that engulfed many during that time, the duo encounter a mix of eclectic individuals who forever change them. The film also stars Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Dunst, Amy Adams, Tom Sturridge, Elisabeth Moss and Alice BragaClick here for all our previous coverage.

At the film’s press day, co-stars Garrett Hedlund and Kristen Stewart talked about why they were so passionate about this project, how challenging it was to stay attached over the years, how they broke the nudity in the film to their parents, the ideals of the time period that they can most relate to, their favorite locations on the shoot, what the younger fans of Twilight might think of this film, and what can make a great road trip. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

New Trailer for ON THE ROAD

On the eve of the release of the final installment in the Twilight franchise, we’ve got a Kristen Stewart news bit of a different sort to share: a new trailer for the Jack Kerouac adaptation On the Road.  Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, and Sam Riley star as the central characters Marylou, Dean, and Sal, respectively, and this impressive trailer takes a more character-centric approach to the story, attempting to relay at least a little of what the film’s about.  I’m interested to see how Kerouac’s Beat Generation portrait translates to film (read Matt’s review right here), but I continue to be impressed by the brief glimpses of Hedlund’s performance that we’ve seen in the trailers thus far.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2 Review

by     Posted 1 year, 318 days ago

twilight-breaking-dawn-part-2-robert-pattinson-slice

It would be a gross understatement to say I haven’t been an ardent supporter of the Twilight franchise.  But I have tried to take each film on its own merits.  Nothing can change the fact that it has a despicable core message of how young women should relate to men, but there was always the potential for change.  Bella Swan could become a proactive character.  Edward Cullen and Jacob Black could be more than just brooding, softly smiling eye candy.  Somewhere, in the dreamy clouds of wish fulfillment, there may be something real instead of the silliest, most forced conflicts.  At the series’ conclusion, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 shows us what the Twilight movies could be at their best, but ultimately reminds us about the true nature of this series.

After The Twilight Saga ends for Kristen Stewart this November 16th, she may have a role lined up to star opposite Ben Affleck in Focus.  We previously reported that Affleck was circling a role, and Warner Bros. was looking to fast-track the project once they found a female lead.  It looks like Stewart is their choice.  Focus, written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa of Crazy Stupid Love,  tells the story of a “veteran con man who gets involved with a newcomer to the grifter business. They get involved romantically but that becomes perilous in a business where they lie and cheat for a living. The complications of the encounter haunt them when they meet up again in the future.”  Hit the jump for more.
