12 clips from director Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper pic Magic Mike have been released.  The film is loosely based on Channing Tatum’s early days as a male stripper, and the actor stars as a stripping mentor to a young up-and-comer played by Alex Pettyfer.  With Soderbergh onboard, we can reasonably assume that this won’t simply be a straightforward, flashy stripper movie.  Early word has been strongly positive, and I’m eager to see what kind of story Soderbergh intends to tell against the backdrop of this kind of world.

A couple of new red-band clips for director Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike have gone online.  Though there aren’t any gratuitous full-frontal shots, there’s plenty of shirtlessness, pantslessness and ass-shots to put the rest of us members of the male species to shame.  I’m beyond eager to see what Soderbergh has put together with this “stripper movie” and based on general buzz, the unofficial Year of Channing Tatum should continue full speed ahead on the heels of Magic Mike.

Channing Tatum Strips to “It’s Raining Men” in New Clip from MAGIC MIKE

When making a movie about male strippers, it’s nearly impossible to not throw in a variation of The Weather Girls‘ “It’s Raining Men.”  As such, this latest clip/trailer from Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper pic Magic Mike highlights Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, and Alex Pettyfer performing an umbrella-enhanced routine to said  song.  The dance looks fun and ridiculous, and it’s still hard to believe that Soderbergh is behind the camera on this one.  It’s the unofficial “Year of Channing Tatum” and I’m incredibly interested to see what kind of story Soderbergh is telling with Magic Mike.

New Trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s MAGIC MIKE

A new UK trailer for director Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper movie Magic Mike has gone online.  The film is loosely based on star Channing Tatum’s days as a stripper, and the actor plays a mentor to a young “exotic dancer” played by Alex Pettyfer.  Most of the first trailer focused squarely on Tatum’s character and his furniture-making skills, but this trailer shows us a lot more of the mentor/mentee relationship.  We also get some new looks at Matthew McConaughey, who is pitch-perfect as the nightclub’s ringleader.   I’m always down for a new Soderbergh project, and I’m eager to find out what he saw in Tatum’s story that he thought would make a great movie.

First Trailer and Poster for MAGIC MIKE Starring Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey as Male Strippers

The first trailer and poster for director Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike have gone online.  The film is loosely based on Channing Tatum‘s days as a male stripper, and the actor stars as a mentor to a young “exotic dancer” played by Alex Pettyfer.   Though some may balk at the “Channing Tatum stripper movie”, this world actually looks like it could be a lot of fun through Soderbergh’s eyes.  The trailer opens with the easy sell, but once we get into the plot it’s obvious that there’s a bit more to Magic Mike than professional undressing.  Soderbergh isn’t one to do Step Up-type movie where every single plot beat is predictable and groan-worthy (which this movie could easily have been), so I’m interested to see what drew him to this story.  Moreover, Matthew McConaughey appears to be having a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to watching him steal every scene he’s in.

We’ve got some new, high resolution images to share from a couple of anticipated 2012 releases to share today.  First up, a new batch of pics from Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper movie Magic Mike has been released.  Loosely based on star Channing Tatum’s early days as a stripper, the Haywire actor plays mentor to a young protégé played by Alex Pettyfer.  Joining in on the shirtless fun is a swell supporting cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough, Cody Horn and Adam Rodriguez.  The film opens on June 29th.

Additionally, we’ve got two high resolution images (one of them new) from the political comedy The Campaign (previously titled Dog Fight).  We’ve already seen some fairly ridiculous set photos featuring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as two North Carolina politicians who each have Presidential aspirations and are vying for a congressional seat in their district.  The new image here gives us a look at supporting players Jason Sudeikis and Dylan McDermott.  The film opens on August 10th.

New Images from MAGIC MIKE Feature Half-Naked Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, and Matt Bomer

Magic Mike is a peculiar film. Had I simply been told that a movie was being made based on Channing Tatum’s experiences as a male stripper, I most likely would have brushed it off as silly. However, Magic Mike is directed by Steven Soderbergh. I’m always interested in what Soderbergh has to say, and he obviously saw something special in Tatum’s story that he felt warranted a feature film. The story finds Tatum mentoring a young protégé (Alex Pettyfer) and is said to be reminiscent of Saturday Night Fever, with Soderbergh calling it “sexy, funny, and shocking.” Tatum recently confirmed to Steve that the film would be hard R but would be lacking in the full-frontal nudity department, and now Warner Bros. has released a couple new images from the film that are sure to delight those who enjoy their men both naked and tuxedoed.

Hit the jump to see the images. You can also check out what co-star Matt Bomer had to say about the film and his character here. The film also stars Matthew McConaughey, Joe Manganiello, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough, Cody Horn and Adam Rodriguez. Magic Mike opens June 29th.

Matt Bomer Tim DeKay Interview WHITE COLLAR slice

At the USA Network luncheon held during the TCA Winter Press Tour, co-stars Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay were there to promote the Season 3.5 premiere of White Collar on January 17th. The two hinted at what’s to come in these six episodes, that they will end with their biggest cliffhanger to-date, that they have a rough idea of where Season 4 will be headed, and how things could change now, with the possibility of Neal Caffrey’s freedom.

Matt Bomer also talked about his role in Magic Mike, about an upstart male stripper who is taken under the wing of a more experienced colleague and based on the life of actor Channing Tatum (who also stars in the film), working with director Steven Soderbergh, doing research with a group called The Hollywood Men, and acting alongside some of the best abs in Hollywood. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

Warner Bros. has released the first official image and synopsis for director Steven Soderbergh‘s male stripper movie, Magic Mike.  The film stars the perpetually shirtless Matthew McConaughey along with Alex Pettyfer, Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Mangianello, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough, Cody Horn, and Adam Rodriguez.  For those unaware, Magic Mike is based on Tatum’s real life experiences as a 19-year-old stripper, and tells “a story of friendship set in the world of male strippers.” Here’s what Soderbergh had to say about the project:

“When Channing talked to me about this, I thought it was one of the best ideas I’d ever heard for a movie. I said I wanted in immediately. It’s sexy, funny and shocking. We’re using Saturday Night Fever as our model, so hopefully we’re on the right track.”

Today is a good day. The Cardinals are World Series champions, trick r’ treaters will soon be out in full force, and I’ve got a night of horror films to look forward to. Once a year, my fiancée agrees to watch a few pics of the scary variety (or at least Halloween themed ones, i.e. Ernest Scared Stupid) with me in the hopes that I won’t ask her to partake in them again until the following Halloween weekend. Last year’s highlights included Drag Me to Hell and Trick r’ Treat. This year is shaping up to be Tobe Hooper-heavy with Poltergeist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre possibly making the cut. Like I said, today is a good day.

Before you dive into whatever Halloween festivities may await you, I hope you’ll take a few minutes and check out what this week’s “Top 5″ has to offer. In this installment you’ll find the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 3D, a new trailer for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and interviews for this weekend’s openers In Time, Anonymous and The Rum Diary. Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Vincent Kartheiser, Matt Bomer and Writer/Director Andrew Niccol IN TIME Interview

in-time-poster-slice-1

Press conferences can be a difficult affair – a bunch of journalist packed together in a room, most hesitant to ask questions (they’re saving them up for their one-on-ones), the others not having the good sense to be hesitant in their question-asking prowess. Some of the worst inquiries imaginable have been uttered during the course of a junket. At the Contagion event awhile back, some intrepid reporter asked Matt Damon which character he most easily identified with – Jason Bourne or his family-man character in the film. I mean – really? All this however, does create a much looser vibe. Actors/filmmakers seem to actively await the next idiot question asked and a palpable sense of disdain drips in the air.

Case in point: The In Time press conference. Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Vincent Kartheiser, Matt Bomer and writer/director Andrew Niccol all were ready to pounce/tear at any and all questions asked. Topics ranged from parallels between Occupy Wall Street and the film to why there aren’t any cell phones in the picture to what’s it like to run in high heels (directed at Seyfried, of course). For all this and more, hit the jump.

USA Renews WHITE COLLAR for a Fourth Season

Matt Bomer Tim DeKay Interview WHITE COLLAR slice

I’ve often wondered who watches USA series’ such as Burn Notice, In Plain Sight, and White Collar. Honestly, I’ve never seen an episode of any of the above, so it has nothing to do with my thinking they aren’t quality programs. It’s just that I’ve honestly never talked with someone who watches them with any regularity. And, with that in mind, I’m proud to introduce to you another installment of “Jason is wrong about a lot of things.”

Apparently someone watches White Collar (more than 5.5 million per episode, actually) because Variety reports that the network has renewed the series for a 16-episode fourth season. The second half of the third season is set to air early next year with production on the newly announced fourth season beginning shortly thereafter. For those unfamiliar with the series, White Collar stars Matt Bomer as a con-artist who enjoys an unlikely professional relationship with Tim DeKay’s character, an FBI agent.
