An indie biopic of legendary filmmaker Federico Fellini is moving forward and writer/director Henry Bromell (Homeland) has assembled himself quite the cast.  Variety reports that Elite Squad star Wagner Moura will play the famed director in Fellini Black and White, while Peter Dinklage, William H. Macy, and Terrence Howard are set to co-star.  Instead of being your run of the mill all-encompassing biopic, the film centers on a specific period in Fellini’s life.  The story is set in Los Angeles in March of 1957, and takes place during the 48 hours that Fellini went missing right before attending the Academy Awards.  Hit the jump for more.

GAME OF THRONES Season Two Premiere Review

With Mark Addy and Sean Bean having their characters going with the gods last season, when the opening credits for Game of Thrones roll this time around, it’s Peter Dinklage, playing Tyrion Lannister, whose name comes up first, and it’s only appropriate as he is the strongest part of the first two episodes of the highly anticipated second season.  But that’s not to say the rest of the premiere is weak; far from it.  In fact, the second season is merely more of the same in the best way possible as it picks up almost immediately after the end of the first season as war begins between the Lannisters and the Starks and the stakes and drama have never been higher.  And along with all the familiar faces fighting for their families honor and respect amongst the rest of the kingdoms, there’s plenty of new characters to keep things interesting.  Read my full take on the second season premiere of Game of Thrones after the jump.

  • Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone) will star in writer/director Mark Palansky’s Rememory, in which Dinklage assists O’Hara in using her late husband’s invention to solve the mystery around his sudden death.
  • Vinessa Shaw (3:10 to Yuma) is in talks to join Steven Soderbergh’s Bitter Pill. The project centers on a married doctor who is drawn into the life of an increasingly troubled patient who self-medicates to dull the anxiety related to the impending release of her husband from prison.

GAME OF THRONES Season One DVD Review

HBO’s Game of Thrones comes at an interesting time in geekdom, and its success speaks to the barriers that have been broken. Though fantasy and science fiction have often been popular cinematically, on television it’s been stuck in a Stargate-esque ghetto. But now we’ve got one of the most thoughtful shows currently on air on one of the most prestigious networks that also happens to be about dragons and swordplay. Perhaps the better arbiter of what crosses over to the mainstream and what doesn’t is quality, and Game of Thrones is definitely an engrossing show even for those who’ve never picked up a twenty sided die. Sean Bean, Lena Headey, Mark Addy and Peter Dinklage lead a mostly British cast in a tale about warring families in a fantastical middle age. Our review of Game of Thrones on DVD follows after the jump.

Valentine’s Day may have passed, but you can still share your mutual love of Game of Thrones with your significant other. The first three posters from the hit HBO show, based on George R.R. Martin’s novel series, show some of our favorite characters from past and present with various pseudo-romantic one-liners (the last poster is quite a bit darker). If you’ve missed our recent coverage on Game of Thrones, you can get caught up by checking out the season two trailer, a behind-the-scenes production trailer, a host of images from the upcoming season and even some hilarious Valentine’s Day cards. If you’re a fan of the show and would love to be an on-screen part of it, you’ll want to check out the new behind-the-scenes look at what the experience is like for the team of extras. Justin Long, Evan Rachel Wood, and Peter Dinklage to Star in A CASE OF YOU

Justin Long is gearing up to stretch his filmmaking chops behind the camera. Long wrote and will produce the indie A Case of You, which he will also star in alongside Evan Rachel Wood and Peter Dinklage. Variety reports that the story centers on “a young writer who tries to impress a girl he meets online with an embellished profile, but finds himself in a real mess when she falls for him and he has to keep up the act.” While the logline seems a bit “teen comedy”, I’m encouraged by the cast and, ultimately, Long’s involvement. He’s been a standout in a large number of films over the past few years and I’m interested to see something that comes straight from his creative voice. Also, Dinklage rules. Neither Wood nor Long have anything (officially) on the immediate horizon, but Dinklage can be seen in the second season of Game of Thrones starting April 1st on HBO. He returns to film season three later this summer.

New Bad-Ass Trailer for GAME OF THRONES: Season 2

The second season of Game of Thrones is a little over two months away, and a new trailer has gone online.  If you thought the wait for season two was painful already, you’re going to be in agony after you see this trailer.  It’s all new footage, it sets up some key relationships, hints where the plot is going (for people who haven’t read the novels), and when Arya says “Anyone can be killed,” it’s basically the ethos for the entire series.  It’s also not a bad marketing strategy to make Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) the focus of the trailer.

Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.  The new season of Game of Thrones premieres April 1st on HBO.

2011 Emmy Nominations Announced; MILDRED PIERCE, MAD MEN, and BOARDWALK EMPIRE Lead with Most Nominations

The nominations for the 2011 Primetime Emmys have been announced.  HBO, as always, led the pack as the miniseries Mildred Pierce picked up 21 nominations, Boardwalk Empire picked up 18 nominations, and Game of Thrones nabbed 13 nominations.  Also, as usual, Mad Men held the most nominations of any dramatic series by picking up 19 nods.  The Emmys also once again overlooked Community in favor of garbage like Glee, but they also finally showed Parks and Recreation some love.  It’s also cool that Louis C.K. (Louie), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), and Walton Goggins (Justified) picked up nominations, but overlooking Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) was just one of the many snubs that the Emmys have become known for.

Hit the jump to check out the full list of nominees.  Winners will be announced Sunday, September 18th at 8/7c on Fox.

We’re just two weeks away from the premiere of the new HBO series Game of Thrones, and while we’ve seen several different trailers for the fantasy drama, the cable network has decided a more lengthy preview is in order. Last night HBO premiered the first 14 minutes from the first episode in the series, and damn does it look exquisite. Based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire the sprawling tale set in the mythical land of Westeros tells the story of the noble Stark family who become caught up in high court intrigue when patriarch Eddard (played by Sean Bean) becomes the king’s new right-hand man. The cast also includes Mark Addy, Lena Headey, Harry Lloyd, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Jennifer Ehle and Peter Dinklage. Check out the extended preview below and stay tuned for our advanced review of the first few episodes sometime soon.
