New MORTDECAI Posters Feature Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Munn, Ewan McGregor, and Moustaches

Lionsgate has released four Mortdecai character posters online, and all of them feature the title character’s dapper facial hair.  The film stars Johnny Depp as the roguish Charlie Mortdecai, an art dealer who finds himself in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold (everyone wants Nazi gold these days).  My hope for Mortdecai is that it just manages to be a fun romp rather than a reminder of how hard Depp tries to do wacky characters.

THE WATER DIVINER Trailer and Poster: Russell Crowe Directs and Stars in Australian World War I Drama

by     Posted 22 days ago

the-water-diviner-trailer-poster

The first The Water Diviner trailer and poster have been released for Russell Crowe’s feature directorial debut.  The story centers on an Australian man (Crowe) who travels to Turkey in an attempt to discover the fate of his three sons, who were fighting in World War I.  While I was afraid the film might feel a bit like a vanity project, this trailer is actually pretty good.  There are surprisingly few films that revolve around the horrors of The Great War, and this Australia-focused story provides an interesting point of view for what was truly a World war.  Crowe appears to be pretty confident behind the camera, and he’s filled his cast out with plenty of Australian actors.  Color me intrigued.

Hit the jump to check out the Water Diviner trailer and poster.  The film also stars Olga Kurylenko, Jai Courtney, Yilmaz Erdogan, Cem Yilmaz, Steve Bastoni, Isabel Lucas, Ryan Corr, Dan Wyllie, Damon Herriman, Jacqueline McKenzie, Michael Dorman, Megan Gale, and Dylan GeorgiadesThe Water Diviner opens in Australia and New Zealand on December 26th.

saw-re-release-slice

It’s been four years since we got a Saw release for Halloween, but this year, the franchise is out to make a quick buck off its seven-film run.  In honor of the franchise’s 10th anniversary, the very first Saw film will hit the big screen again for one week beginning October 31st.

Leading up to the start of the film’s one-week run, we’ll get five brand new posters all of which will feature Amanda Young’s (Shawnee Smith) reverse bear trap.  In fact, the first one already hit the web and it’s a stunning rendering of one of Jigsaw’s most iconic traps.  Hit the jump to check that out and to watch the Saw re-release trailer as well.

First TAKEN 3 Poster Doesn’t Make Any Sense

by     Posted 26 days ago

taken-3-poster

The first Taken 3 poster has landed online courtesy of an international one-sheet, and it’s almost impressively nonsensical.  Taken 2 helmer Olivier Megaton returns to the director’s chair this time around, with the story finding Liam Neeson’s Bryan Mills on the run after he’s framed for murder.  Firstly, the official title is Tak3n which is just dumb.  Secondly, nobody gets “taken” in this likely final sequel, so the title doesn’t even really make any sense.  And third, this new poster sees Neeson standing under what looks to be the famous “Hollywood” sign, except there’s a giant “3” in the middle of the word (which from the front would form a weird-looking “E” I guess?).  Except all of this probably doesn’t matter because all audiences really want out of Tak3n is to see Liam Neeson beat more people up.  Admittedly this is an international poster so maybe the official domestic one-sheet will make a bit more sense, but boy is this one pretty dumb.

Hit the jump to take a look at the first international Taken 3 poster.  The film also stars Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen, Forest Whitaker, and Jonny WestonTak3n opens in theaters on January 9, 2015.

Exclusive: MISS MEADOWS Poster Featuring Katie Holmes as a Gun-Toting Vigilante

Miss-Meadows-poster-katie-holmes

Katie Holmes is one bad teacher in writer-director Karen Leigh Hopkins’ upcoming thriller Miss Meadows.  As the film’s recent trailer reveals, Holmes’ title character may seem like a sweet and unassuming grade school teacher, but her innocent charm belies a murderous (and possibly psychotic) vigilante who targets her victims based on their bad behavior.  As a special treat for you today, we’ve got an exclusive poster premiere to share with you, which hints at the demure and demonic sides of Holmes’ character.

Also starring James Badge DaleMary Kay Place and Jean SmartMiss Meadows can be seen in theaters and On Demand starting November 14th.  Hit the jump to take a look at our exclusive premiere of the new Miss Meadows poster.

REACH ME Trailer and Poster Starring Sylvester Stallone, Terry Crews, Thomas Jane, and the Rest of the 323 Area Code

reach-me-trailer-poster

Wow.  Fifteen years after Paul Thomas Anderson‘s valley opus Magnolia, we get the Millenium Entertainment take on Altman-esque sprawl with Reach Me.  This film looks a bit out of its mind, but maybe it’s in the service of some kind of mad genius.  All I know is it doesn’t look boring, even though it seems to be in search of a consistent tone (it oscillates wildly between serious pathos and comic relief). I will indeed be seeing it.

Hit the jump for the Reach Me trailer and poster.  The film was directed by John Herzfeld and stars Sylvester Stallone, Tom Berenger, Kevin Connolly,  Danny Trejo, Kyra Sedgwick, Nelly, Cary Elwes, Thomas Jane, Terry Crews, Danny Aiello, Kelsey Grammer, Lauren Cohan, Ryan Kwanten, as well as Tom Sizemore.

If you couldn’t make it to this years Cannes Film Festival, you’re in luck because the films are now coming to you!  One notable entry from the competition is writer-director Xavier Dolan’s award-winning drama, Mommy.  The winner of the Jury Prize centers on a single mom and her mercurial son whose daily struggle to coexist is helped by the friendship of a strange new neighbor.  It’s certainly not your run-of-the-mill schmaltzy family film as both mother and son have some major personal and mental health issues going on, so if hard-hitting dramas are more your speed, then put this one on your radar.

Starring Anne Dorval, Antoine-Olivier Pilon, Suzanne Clement, Alexandre Goyette, and Patrick Huard, the Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions presentation of Mommy lands in theaters January 2015.  Hit the jump to watch the trailer and check out the film’s official synopsis and poster.

the-last-hijack-poster-slice

Tommy Pallotta and Femke Wolting’s Last Hijack is due to screen at the New York Film Festival on Sunday, September 28th and it’s bound to be a very unique piece of cinema.  The film focuses on a successful Somali pirate with family and friends who don’t approve of his dangerous gig.  Rather than tell his story using documentary footage alone, Pallotta and Wolting combine it with animated sequences and an online transmedia experience as well.

With the movie’s NYFF screening fast approaching, we got the opportunity to debut a simple yet striking exclusive new poster for the film.  Hit the jump to check out the Last Hijack poster and keep an eye out for the full feature, which is due to arrive in select theaters on October 3rd, will have an exclusive run on iTunes from October 7th to October 14th and then hit all other VOD platforms and additional theaters after.

Matthew McConaughey Splashes Down in Another New INTERSTELLAR Poster

by     Posted 34 days ago

interstellar-movie-poster

Paramount Pictures continues its marketing campaign for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated new film by unveiling yet another new Interstellar poster—the fourth such one-sheet of the week.  While the first two posters were a diptych of sorts, showing Matthew McConaughey on an ice planet and back on Earth, respectively, the third poster focused on space at large.  This fourth and presumably final poster (of this week, at least) sees McConaughey trekking through yet another uncharted planet, knee-deep in a liquid substance (water?) while the gorgeous heavens paint the sky above him.  I’m wary of seeing too much footage from the film before it hits theaters, so if Paramount wants to just continue releasing posters that tease the epic scope and locations of the film without getting into plot, that would be fine by me.

Take a look at the new Interstellar IMAX poster after the jump.  The film opens in 2D and IMAX on November 7th and also stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine, David Oyelowo, Wes Bently, John Lithgow, Ellen Burstyn, Topher Grace, David Gyasi, Mackenzie Foy, Bill Irwin, Timothee Chalamet, and Matt Damon.

New AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW Images Reveal Kathy Bates’ Bearded Lady, Michael Chiklis’ Strong Man, and More

Ahead of the fourth season premiere next month, FX has unveiled a batch of new American Horror Story: Freak Show images.  Ryan Murphy’s anthology series returns with a new setting, hook, and cast of characters, this time focusing on the carnies of a traveling freak show in 1952 Florida.  These images give us a close-up look at Kathy Bates as the Bearded Lady, Michael Chiklis as the Strong Man, and plenty more additions to the ensemble.  This anthology format has been a suitable outlet for Murphy, who tends to expend all of his creative energy in a short amount of time.  Even so, portions of AHS seasons in the past have felt too crowded and overloaded at times.  My hope is that the Freak Show story will be a bit more streamlined this year, but regardless, seeing a bearded Kathy Bates and a two-headed Sarah Paulson should be quite entertaining.

Hit the jump to check out the new American Horror Story: Freak Show images and a disturbing new poster.  The series also stars Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Angela Basset, Emma Roberts, Denis O’Hare, Frances Conroy, Patti LaBelle, Finn Wittrock, Naomi Grossman, and John Caroll LynchAmerican Horror Story: Freak Show premieres on FX on October 8th.

A MOST VIOLENT YEAR Trailer and Poster; J.C. Chandor’s Film Starring Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac Opens Dec 31 in NY and L.A.

J.C. Chandor is definitely on the rise, with a surprising amount of people favoring his dark horse Robert Redford film All Is Lost over Alfonso Cuaron‘s Gravity juggernaut in last year’s “solo and in peril” sweepstakes.  And A Most Violent Year definitely looks like it could be the film that really solidifies his place on the map.  The film is set in New York in 1981 and revolves around “an American immigrant (Oscar Isaac) and his wife (Jessica Chastain) trying to expand their business as violence and corruption threaten to destroy all they have built.”

A24 has just released a trailer for the film that’s incredibly intense and foreboding and surprisingly successful in making you feel like you know these characters already.  Oscar Isaac is such a chameleon, I had to look twice to make sure this was in fact the same Isacc from Inside Llewyn Davis. And of course Jessica Chastain has never delivered a bad performance.  The trailer doesn’t even really show Albert Brooks, but after Drive I’m hoping he plays a similarly menacing figure.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster for A Most Violent Year.  The film opens in NY and LA on December 31st.

New INTERSTELLAR Poster Finally Features the Beauty of the Cosmos and a Positive Tagline

Another Interstellar poster has gone online, and it’s the prettiest of the bunch so far. The film stars Matthew McConaughey and revolves around a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole “to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.”  The most recent trailer gave us a hint of how gorgeous the space scenes will be, and this poster is another glimpse at that promise.  It also doesn’t have a tagline that mixes the hope of discovery with the reminder that we’re all going to die unless we leave Earth.

Matthew McConaughey Looks to the Stars in Another INTERSTELLAR Poster, While Brad Pitt Is Bruised in New FURY Poster

by     Posted 36 days ago

interstellar-poster-fury-poster

New posters for two of the most anticipated films of the year have arrived online.  Hot on the heels of yesterday’s icy one sheet, another new Interstellar poster grounds Matthew McConaughey on Earth in director Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi film.  It pairs nicely with yesterday’s space-set poster, and also focuses on what looks to be the emotional hook of the story: a father-daughter relationship.  I’m more than sold on this movie already, so now I’m just counting down the days until the pic’s November 7th release in both traditional theaters and IMAX.

We’ve also got a brand new poster for director David Ayer’s original World War II drama Fury.  The story revolves around a tank crew in the final days of the war, as they battle a desperate German army.  This new poster puts Brad Pitt front and center as the tank’s leader Wardaddy, while also providing a snapshot of the tank crew in its entirety.  It’s tad over-photoshopped, but the film remains one of my must-sees of the fall.  Fury also stars Logan Lerman, Shia LaBeouf, Michael Pena, and Jon Bernthal and opens on October 17th.  Hit the jump to check out both posters.

Exclusive WOLVES Poster Unleashes the Beast

We’ve got an exclusive new poster from X-Men and Watchmen writer David Hayter’s feature directorial debut, Wolves, to share with our readers today.  Hayter wrote and directed the horror film, which stars Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class) as a young high school student who realizes that he’s slowly changing into a werewolf.  After the brutal murder of his parents, he sets off to uncover the truth of what he is, only to find there are many more like him—including a young woman named Angelina (Merritt Patterson).  The cast also includes Stephen McHattie and Jason Momoa, and this debut poster teases confrontation among the beastly creatures as well as some solid werewolf design.

A bunch of brand new posters just hit the web.  Here’s what’s coming at a glance:

  • Into the Woods – This one’s rocking quite the cast, but when you’ve got Meryl Streep on the roster, how can she not be the one front and center on the poster?
  • V/H/S: Viral – We’ve got a new poster for the third installment of the V/H/S franchise just in time for the film’s Fantastic Fest screening.
  • Dracula Untold – We’ve got a brand new IMAX poster for Dracula Untold, but it looks a lot like the one we got back in June.
  • Playing It Cool – This movie looks pretty ridiculous and now it’s got an odd international poster featuring Chris Evans to match.
