We have an exclusive poster to debut today for director David Burris’ adaptation of the Ron Rash novel The World Made Straight.  The film takes place in a rural Appalachian community haunted by the legacy of a Civil War massacre and stars Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) as a young man who finds himself caught between the violence of the past and the evils of the present.  Fallen Skies star and E.R. alum Noah Wyle also stars in the film alongside Haley Joel Osment, Minka Kelly, Adelaide Clements, and Steve Earle, and this poster hints at the dangerous nature of the Appalachian community that affects the ensemble.

Check out the World Made Straight poster after the jump.  The dramatic thriller opens in theaters and VOD on January 9, 2015.

New MORTDECAI Trailer and Poster: Johnny Depp Attempts to Save the World for Queen, Country, Travel and Living Expenses, and Reasonable Overhead

mortdecai-trailer-poster

Lionsgage has released a new Mortdecai trailer and poster, and I continue to be charmed by this film.  The film stars Johnny Depp as the roguish Charlie Mortdecai, an art dealer who finds himself in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.  This new trailer also fills us in on the supporting characters including Mortdecai’s wife (Gwyneth Paltrow), handler (Ewan McGregor), Jock Strapp (Paul Bettany, and yes, the character name is a bit much), and a potential mistress (Olivia Munn).  I know Depp has gone from being an exciting actor to self-parody, but he looks like he’s having a blast with the character, and hopefully that enthusiasm will carry over to the rest of the picture.

Hit the jump to check out the new Mortdecai trailer and poster.  The film opens January 23, 2015, and also stars Aubrey Plaza, Jeff Goldblum, and Oliver Platt.

DRAGON BLADE Poster: John Cusack Makes for a Silly-Looking Centurion alongside Adrien Brody and Jackie Chan

The American Film Market is currently underway, which means production companies and filmmakers are seeking financing for projects or trying to sell international rights for finished films.  Promotion artwork can help them do that, although I’m not sure how much this Dragon Blade poster will accomplish.  We saw some more neutral posters last week for the film, which is about “a missing legion of Roman soldiers that traveled into China in 48 B.C.”  Those posters did not show us John Cusack dressed as a Roman soldier.  I have trouble buying Cusack as anyone who lived before 1980, and I also have trouble understanding why he continues to take such laughable roles.  His presence in schlock has become almost as ubiquitous as Nicolas Cage, but without the charming insanity.  It’s a shame because Cusack can still do good work when he tries such as his recent performance as Brian Wilson in Love & Mercy.  But if he wants to wear a silly helmet, that’s his business, and Chinese cinema can certainly pay well these days.

Hit the jump to check out the Dragon Blade poster.  The film stars Jackie Chan and an also-ridiculous-looking Adrien Brody, and opens in China on February 19, 2015.  Click here and here for more AFM promo posters.

Ian McKellen, Danny DeVito, Sylvester Stallone and More Join the Voice Cast of ANIMAL CRACKERS

Who even knew the animated movie Animal Crackers existed?  However, now that it’s been announced that Sir Ian McKellen, Danny DeVito, Sylvester Stallone, Patrick Warburton, Gilbert Gottfried, Raven-Symoné and Harvey Fierstein are all part of the voice cast, that’ll likely change big time.  Then again, a movie about a magical box of animal crackers that turns people into the animal they eat may be a tough sell.

Hit the jump for more on the Animal Crackers casting announcement and to check out the first poster for the film as well.  It doesn’t have a release date just yet, but is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016.  Animal Crackers also features the voices of James Arnold Taylor, Tara Strong and Lydia Taylor.

New CHAPPIE Poster Is Building Blocks and Bling for Neill Blomkamp’s New Sci-Fi Comedy Starring Hugh Jackman and Sharlto Copley

chappie-poster-teaser

Earlier this year at Comic-Con, a banner provided us a brief look at Chappie, the new film from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp, and now an official poster has been released.  Per the logline: “After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot.”  It’s an interesting premise, and producer Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) says it’s “the most provocative studio movie you’ll likely ever see.”  Blomkamp’s previous film, Elysium, was a major letdown, but I’m still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, especially because this is a cute and intriguing poster.

Hit the jump to check out the Chappie poster, and come back tomorrow for the teaser trailer.  The film stars Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver, and Hugh JackmanChappie opens March 27, 2015.

The Gang Battles Antonio Banderas as Superheroes in New THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE OUT OF WATER Trailer and Poster

Paramount Pictures has released a new The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water trailer and poster for the upcoming sequel, which mixes traditional animation, CG animation, and live-action as the Nickelodeon characters wreak havoc on dry land.  The story finds SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and Sandy the Squirrel surfacing in order to track down the stolen formula for Mr. Crabs’ beloved Krabby Patties.  As it turns out, it’s been stolen by a menacing pirate/aspiring chef played by Antonio Banderas.  It’s kind of sad to see a traditionally animated show embracing the CG era, but I wonder how fans of the Nick series (ie. children) will react to the new format.

Check out the new The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water trailer after the jump, along with a new poster.  The film features the voices of Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, and Douglas LawrenceThe SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water opens in 3D on February 6, 2015.

Official FURIOUS 7 Poster Teases Vengeance

by     Posted 28 days ago

Yesterday, Universal Pictures began the marketing campaign for the upcoming seventh Fast & Furious film by unveiling the official title—Furious 7—and a new banner, in addition to announcing that the official trailer will arrive this coming Saturday.  In keeping with the buildup to the trailer debut, Universal today released the first theatrical Furious 7 poster, which also reveals the film’s tagline: “Vengeance Hits Home.”  It’s a fairly standard teaser poster as the Furious 7 cast is obscured in the background, but I am very curious to see how director James Wan handles his first action film.  The production no doubt had its hurdles, but hopefully Wan and Co. were able to turn out a solid finished feature.

Hit the jump to check out the Furious 7 poster.  The film stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, Lucas Black, Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey, and Kurt RussellFurious 7 opens in theaters on April 3, 2015.

Poster For The Newly Titled FURIOUS 7, Trailer Hitting In Seven Days

furious-7-title-poster

So strange.  I was just watching Fast & Furious 6 on HBO Go last night and noticed that the title card actually just read Furious 6, which I thought was a nice compliment to the fifth installment (which was officially titled Fast 5).  So now that Fast & Furious 7 seems to formally be titled Furious 7, I don’t know what to think.  Actually, I do know what to think, which its not worry about the title so much and to look forward to some insanely fun ridiculousness next year.   Though director James Wan described the shoot as a challenge when I spoke to him recently, he also said he was incredibly proud of the film and that sentiment is definitely echoed in the text accompanying the poster reveal.

The film also stars Vin Diesel, Paul WalkerDwayne JohnsonMichelle RodriguezJason Statham, LudacrisTyrese GibsonRonda RouseyTony JaaNathalie EmmanuelLucas BlackJohn BrothertonDjimon Hounsou, and Kurt Russell.  Furious 7 opens in theaters on April 3, 2015.  Hit the jump for a better look poster and a note accompanying the trailer announcement.  It will be an interactive event that fans can participate in as well.

INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 Poster and Trailer Teaser Arrive Prior to Tomorrow’s Official Trailer Release

insidious-chapter-3-poster-slice

Splitting the Insidious: Chapter 2 narrative between the Lambert family, the material at the hospital and what goes down in The Further kept the film from feeling as refined as the original, but it did prove that there’s much more to the situation that could be worth exploring in a new edition.

We know that the third installment is a prequel and involves Elise (Lin Shaye) trying to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) evade a supernatural entity, but I’m on the lookout for plot points directly related to The Further and the rules established in the previous two films.  Could that come in the film’s first trailer?  We’ll find out soon enough because it’s due to arrive tomorrow at 9am PST.  Hit the jump to check out a new Insidious: Chapter 3 poster and trailer teaser counting down to the official teaser trailer’s big release.  (And yes, I know it sounds ridiculous.)  Insidious: Chapter 3 is due to hit theaters on May 29, 2015 and also stars Dermot Mulroney, Angus Sampson and writer-director Leigh Whannell.

Trailer, Poster and Images for STARRY EYES, a New Horror Classic

by     Posted 34 days ago

starry-eyes-trailer-poster-images

I have seen Starry Eyes twice now.  The first time was back in March at SXSW and while I immediately connected with the film and liked it very much, I wound up lobbing a few criticisms at it as well. As the months wore on the movie grew in my head, there was just something about this inexpensive indie that had worn its way into me.  So much so that, several months later, I asked if I could host the Los Angeles premiere of the film.  A second viewing that night not only ameloriated some of the vague concerns I had after the first viewing of the movie, it actually surpassed the version of the film I’d had playing in my head for months after the fact.  Starry Eyes isn’t just good… it’s fantastic.  That’s not hyperbole.  I know some of the people involved and would tell them to their face if I didn’t think it was at least a near classic.

While the trailer I’m including here is old, today’s release of the theatrical/VOD poster for the film is a good excuse to post it on this site for the first time.  Starry Eyes comes from the writing/directing team of Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer and stars Alex Essoe, Noah Segan, Amanda Fuller and Pat Healy.  It was produced by Travis Stevens‘ Snowfort Pictures and hits theaters and VOD on November 14th.  Be there.  Or be home.  But be watching it.

Exclusive DREDD Miniseries Images and Poster; SUPERFIEND Arrives on October 27th

dredd-miniseries-slice

It’s huge that 2012’s Dredd amassed such an enthusiastic cult following, but the film only took in $35.6 million at the worldwide box office so it’s no wonder that the fate of the sequel is still so uncertain.  However, producer Adi Shankar isn’t going to let that stop him from bringing us more Dredd.

While we continue to keep our fingers crossed for Dredd 2, Shankar is going to hold us over with a web series called Superfiend.  When we first told you about it a couple of weeks ago, it seemed as though it’d follow in the footsteps of Shankar’s past “Bootleg Universe” installments, The Punisher: Dirty Laundry and Venom: Truth in Journalism, run with a live-action format and possibly feature stars from the film, but Superfiend is actually an animated series.  Hit the jump to get a sense of what’s coming in our exclusive poster and Dredd miniseries images.

FUN SIZE HORROR Poster and Collider’s Official Release Line-Up Including Work from Josh C. Waller, Zeke Pinheiro, Mali Elfman and More

by     Posted 38 days ago

fun-size-horror-poster-slice

As we told you a couple of weeks ago, Collider is teaming up with a little something called Fun Size Horror, a collective of talented filmmakers who love the genre.  It isn’t easy getting independent films off the ground, so Zeke Pinheiro figured, he knows a whole bunch of folks eager to make movies, so why not pool all their resources and make them together?  That idea resulted in the completion of 31 short horror films.

But even then, there’s the issue of distribution and that’s where Collider, DreadCentral, BloodyDisgusting, ShockTillYouDrop and HitFix come in. Beginning October 27th, each outlet will unveil a new Fun Size Horror short. That short will be available for 24 hours and then after that period, a new short film will take its place. Hit the jump for more on the initiative and to check out the Fun Size Horror poster as well.

If you’re amassing a collection of Tim Burton posters somewhere, this new one for his latest film, Big Eyes, is bound to stand out.  The film tells the true story of Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz) and his wife, Margaret (Amy Adams).  Back in the 1950s, Walter Keane became a household name courtesy of a series of oil paintings featuring kids with enormous eyes.  But the thing is, he wasn’t the one making them.  Margaret was.

The very first Big Eyes poster just hit the web and it features Waltz and Adams in front of a Margaret Keane design called “The First Grail.”  Hit the jump to check it out.  Big Eyes arrives in theaters on December 25th and also stars Krysten RitterTerrence StampJason Schwartzman and Danny Huston.
