Summer movie season has officially begun with the release of Iron Man 3 this weekend, and now a new poster has landed online for another of this year’s superhero pics. In the latest trailer for The Wolverine, we caught a glimpse of the villain Silver Samurai. Given the reveal, director James Mangold has now decided to share a Silver Samurai-centric new poster for the film. It’s a really swell piece of art that’s in keeping with the Japanese-influenced initial posters for The Wolverine, and I’m interested to see how many more posters like this we’ll be getting.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova. The Wolverine opens on July 26th.

If you thought the most recent banner and theatrical poster for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim were epic-looking, hold on to your hats, folks. Warner Bros. has unveiled a “super banner” for the film, and it gives a bird’s eye view of the massive level of size and destruction of the film’s Kaiju and Jaegers. For those unfamiliar, the film’s story is kicked off by the emergence of monsters (known as Kaiju) who start a war that devastates humanity. To fight back, the humans build giant robots (known as Jaegers) that are controlled by two pilots. This “super banner” will supposedly go up in theaters across the country, and I can’t wait to get a look at it up close.
Hit the jump to take a look at the super banner in full. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., Idris Elba, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12th.

One of the best films I saw at Sundance this year was Morgan Neville‘s documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom. The film focuses on backup singers Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Claudia Lennear, Lisa Fischer, Tata Vega, and Judith Hill. They have worked with some of the biggest acts of all-time, and now these women finally get the spotlight in a feature that explores music history, race, and fame in an endearing and fascinating tale. The trailer shows all of that, but it’s only the tip of the iceberg for this must-see movie.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster. Twenty Feet from Stardom opens June 14th.

Warner Bros. has released the third poster for director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot Man of Steel, and this time Supes takes to the skies. The first Comic-Con poster teased the new costume, the second poster showed Henry Cavill’s Superman in cuffs, and now this third one-sheet teases the superhero’s power of flight. It’s a neat concept, but there’s a tad too much photoshop on Cavill’s face for my taste. Snyder previously said he wanted the flying scenes to be a “violent experience,” and the blurriness of the skyline in the distance on this poster definitely promises some very quick speeds.
Hit the jump to check out the new poster. The film also stars Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fisburne, Antje Traue, and Russell Crowe. Man of Steel opens in 3D on June 14th.

New posters for two of this summer’s most anticipated films have arrived online. First up, hot on the heels of yesterday’s excellent banner comes a new poster for Guillermo del Toro’s Warner Bros. tentpole Pacific Rim. The film’s story is kicked off by the emergence of monsters (known as Kaiju) who start a war that devastates humanity. To fight back, the humans build giant robots (known as Jaegers) that are controlled by two pilots. This new poster shows a host of Jaegers assembling either for battle or one epic pool party. The film opens in 3D on July 12th.
Additionally, a couple of new character posters for Todd Phillips’ trilogy closing The Hangover Part III features the return of Heather Graham’s stripper-with-a-heart-of-gold Jade and her baby “Carlos,” as well as John Goodman’s villainous character. If you missed any coverage from our set visit, you can get caught up on interviews with Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Ken Jeong, Zach Galifianakis, Phillips and screenwriter Craig Mazin at the corresponding links. The film opens on May 24th. Hit the jump to check out all three posters.

In case you haven’t already gotten your fill of Star Trek Into Darkness by way of a bounty of posters, clips, TV spots, images, and trailers, Paramount has unveiled yet another one-sheet for J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi sequel. The new poster shows the USS Enterprise being dwarfed by a much larger starship aptly called the USS Vengeance. All signs point to Kirk and the gang encountering great peril during this go-around.
Hit the jump to check out the new poster. The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Alice Eve, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in IMAX 3D on May 15th and in 2D and 3D in traditional theaters on May 17th.

Director Guillermo del Toro’s “monsters vs. robots” movie Pacific Rim looks incredible. It’s easy to get excited about films based on meticulously crafted marketing materials, but yesterday’s WonderCon trailer for the film showed exactly what happens when a studio like Warner Bros. gives a visionary filmmaker like Del Toro a significant budget and says “go play.” If that excellent WonderCon trailer somehow didn’t sell you on just how massive the world of Pacific Rim is, today’s new banner does a swell job of reminding us that the film demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible.
Hit the jump to get a look at the new banner. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., Idris Elba, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12th.

It was almost a sure-thing that Mondo would be whipping up some posters for Iron Man 3. The Alamo Drafthouse’s art boutique has provided posters for Iron Man and Iron Man 2, and now they’ve got some beauties for Shane Black‘s upcoming third installment. Phantom City Creative has provided a poster showing off the many armors of the new movie, and I really like the schematic design and level of detail. There’s also a regular and variant poster from artist Martin Ansin. It’s reminiscent of his Looper poster in how it how cuts together different images and hues inside and across multiple boundaries.
Hit the jump for sizes and pricing on the posters. The posters will be available at a random time on Friday, so keep an eye on @MondoNews for the announcement. Iron Man 3 opens in 3D on May 3rd.

Star Trek Into Darkness opens in 2D and 3D on May 17th, but if you can’t wait to see the flick and are willing to pay the cost of an IMAX 3D ticket, you can see the movie as early as May 15th at 8pm. Fans attending the May 15th, 8pm IMAX 3D screenings will get a free Gallery 1988 poster by Mark Englert. His work is highly popular in the poster collecting community, and this is a nice looking piece especially for the low, low price of free.

This new TV spot hints at just some of the trouble the guys get up to in Sin City while featuring looks at returning co-star Heather Graham and the new big baddy played by John Goodman. There’s also a new poster which features one of Alan’s animal sidekicks.

Magnolia Pictures has released the first teaser trailer and poster for director David Gordon Green’s (Pineapple Express) upcoming dramedy Prince Avalanche. The film stars Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch and follows two workers as they spend their summer repainting traffic lines in the middle of a country highway. I caught the pic at Sundance and it’s a wonderfully peculiar film with two fantastic performances from Rudd and Hirsch. There are literally only four characters that appear onscreen in the entire movie, with Rudd and Hirsch sharing the lion’s share of the pic’s screentime alone. It’s really the perfect blend of Green’s indie and commercial comedy sensibilities, as the film’s scenes alternate between hilarity and heartbreak. This trailer does a nice job of showcasing the chemistry between Rudd and Hirsch while playing up the pic’s funnier moments, but there are plenty of nice dramatic beats to be found in the full feature as well.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer, and click here to read Matt’s review of the film from Sundance. Prince Avalanche will be available in theaters and on VOD August 9th.

Earlier today we saw a behind-the-scenes image from Legendary and Warner Bros.’ Godzilla reboot that teased some of the destruction that will be on display in that film, but the two studios have another destruction-filled tentpole heading our way this summer: Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. A new poster for the pic has been unveiled, and it teases the epic scale of the film’s Jaegars, which are massive robots that humanity built in order to combat monsters (known as Kaiju) that emerged from the sea. This poster also boasts the film’s rather apt tagline, “Go Big or Go Extinct.” Get here fast, July.
Hit the jump to check out the new poster. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, and Clifton Collins Jr. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12th.

Disney and IMAX have unveiled the “12:01” poster for writer/director Shane Black’s upcoming sequel Iron Man 3. As part of the IMAX 12:01 series, this poster will be handed out to those attending the midnight showings of the Marvel pic, and this print is pretty great. The poster design comes from artist Jock, who also created last year’s swell Dark Knight Rises Mondo print. The unveiling of this Iron Man 3 poster also comes with the announcement that this will be the last print in the IMAX 12:01 series, which is a bit of a shame since they’ve released some impressive posters over the past year.
Hit the jump to take a look at the poster, and if you want to grab one for yourself make sure you arrive early to your midnight showing of the film since supplies are limited. Iron Man 3 opens on May 3rd.

It’s hard to create a cool piece of art. But whoever designed The Wolverine poster featuring a silhouette of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine with his claws unsheathed knocked it out of the park. It’s definitely one of the best posters I’ve seen in a long time and it looks like most of you agree with me.
While at the Fox presentation at CinemaCon, I was to talking to a few of their executives and I mentioned how much I loved the poster. I found out Tony Sella, Fox’s Chief Creative Officer, came up with the Sumi Ink concept and it’s being stolen on a daily basis all over the country. The exec’s told me they’ll need to replace over 50% of the bus shelters. I think while it’s a good problem to have, it’s still an issue, because they paid for an ad buy and they want to make sure people see the poster. Hit the jump the poster.

Marvel has unveiled the first poster for the sequel Thor: The Dark World. This debut comes ahead of the film’s first trailer, which is set to be released next week. There’s not much to the poster other than an intimidating-looking Chris Hemsworth as the titular character surrounded by a rather intense storm. The sequel, directed by Game of Thrones helmer Alan Taylor, will find Thor squaring off against the villainous dark elf Malekith the Accursed, played by Christopher Eccleston.
Hit the jump to check out the poster, and come back on Tuesday, April 23rd to see the film’s trailer. The pic also stars Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, and Anthony Hopkins. Thor: The Dark World opens in 3D on November 8th.
