GOTHAM Posters Tease Penguin, The Riddler, Poison Ivy, and More

Given the level of interest it’s generating, you’d think Fox had brought back Christopher Nolan to direct its new Batman TV show.  Fans are eager to get a look at Gotham when the series debuts this fall, and Fox is happily satiating the interest by doling out bits and pieces of the show here and there.  Today, the network has released a collection of Gotham posters that give us a look at the characters that will be populating the show’s iteration of Gotham City.  A Batman prequel series of sorts, Gotham focuses on the exploits of a young James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) as his navigates his way through the Gotham police department and strikes up a friendship with the recently orphaned Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz).  It’s an interesting way to tap into the comic book fever, but all of this is moot if the show isn’t any good.  Here’s hoping for the best.

Hit the jump to take a look at the Gotham character posters, which also feature Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Cory Michael Smith as Riddler, Camren Bicondova as Catwoman, and Clare Foley as Poison Ivy.  Gotham debuts on Fox this fall.

New TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Trailer and Posters Bring the Dubstep to Introduce Shredder

Paramount Pictures has released a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer as well as a collection of character posters for director Jonathan Liebesman’s adaptation of the popular property.  In the new live-action iteration, a city is in the iron grip of Shredder (William Fichtner) and the Foot Clan, and it’s up to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, along with the help of reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and her cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), to stop Shredder and save the day.  There’s a bit of a disconnect in the trailer in that, aesthetically, the film looks like Transformers, but the tone seems geared towards a younger, less serious audience.  Even Shredder, which we get a good look at here, just looks like a modified Transformer.  I think more colorful/goofy is the way to go with this franchise (you can’t make a “gritty” TMNT without it coming off as ridiculous), but I still can’t tell who this movie is aimed at.  And then there’s the dubstep.

New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Image Featuring Djimon Hounsou as Korath; Plus Hi-Res Character Posters

Following last week’s flurry of character posters, a new Guardians of the Galaxy image has been released from the upcoming Marvel film, revealing an official look at Djimon Hounsou as Korath.  Director James Gunn’s space-set adventure revolves around an unlikely group of outlaws that must work together in order to save the universe, and judging by the emphasis on one specific orb in a number of images and the trailers—and now this Hounsou image—I imagine this is the film’s MacGuffin.  In addition to the close look at Korath, Disney has also released high-resolution versions of the previously released character posters, which provide a closer look at the principal misfits.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR – See the New-and-Improved Eva Green Poster Approved by the MPAA

Remember those puzzles where two images are laid side by side and you have to spot the differences?  Well, that’s kind of what the new Sin City: A Dame to Kill For posters featuring Eva Green are like, just with more boobs.  If you’re just getting caught up on this little controversy, it all started when the MPAA rejected a risque poster for The Weinstein Company film.  Green herself then responded to the non-news story in full support of the film and the poster.  The latest (and likely last) news on this issue is that the MPAA has approved a slightly photoshopped poster that’s more to their liking.

Also starring Jessica AlbaMickey RourkeRosario DawsonJoseph Gordon-LevittJosh Brolin, Bruce WillisJaime KingDennis HaysbertChristopher MeloniJeremy PivenRay LiottaJuno Temple, Stacy Keach, and Julia Garner, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opens on August 22nd.  Hit the jump for both posters and to see if you can tell them apart.

Andy Fairhurst Unveils Three Excellent STAR WARS Prints

Star Wars is one of the most recognizable brands in all of pop-culture, and as a result, a multitude of Star Wars-inspired artwork exists.  It’s tough to come across something that truly stands out, but artist Andy Fairhurst has crafted three fantastic prints for A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi that capture the tone of each film in a unique way.  The posters follow a similar structure, with a vehicle at the top, silhouette in the middle, and title at the bottom on each, but the execution of the idea is fantastic, making for a trio of excellent items to add to your collection.

New TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION Propaganda Posters and Video Warn Against “Dangerous” Transformers

With this summer’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, director Michael Bay aims to reboot his own franchise with an installment that allegedly takes place in a very different world (it doesn’t seem that different, really).  Set three years after the events of Dark of the Moon, the fourth Transformers film finds the inhabitants of Earth united against any and all Transformers, blaming the action figures robots for the destruction in Chicago.  As part of a new viral campaign for the film, these Transformers: Age of Extinction propaganda posters and “Fall of Chicago” video advocate a human-only Earth and urge people to report all alien activity.  It’s a cute campaign, but I’m mainly curious to see just how far Bay has gone in resetting this franchise.

THE GIVER Character Posters and Images Featuring Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, and Taylor Swift

The Weinstein Company has released a slew of The Giver posters and images from director Philip Noyce’s adaptation of the Lois Lowry novel.  The story takes place in a utopian society where all memories of the past reside with a sage figure known as “The Giver”.  Jeff Bridges plays the titular character and Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent) plays a young boy who has been selected to be the new Giver.  These character posters introduce the main cast, which also includes Meryl Streep, Alexander SkarsgardKatie Holmes, and a brunette Taylor Swift.  I still don’t have a solid hold on what Noyce’s take on the material entails, but I imagine the film will become more clear as we approach the release date.

“Things are about to get nasty,” if these new character posters for Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For are any indication.  This is the first time we’re seeing a splash of color in the sequel’s marketing, even if it’s mostly a very fitting blood red.  In this batch of posters, we’ve got new looks at characters played by returning actors Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, and Rosario Dawson, as well as newcomers Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Josh Brolin.  It all looks very familiar, but if you’re happy with what you saw on screen in 2005, then these posters should be pleasing to the eye.
