Jesper Ganslandt to Direct Thriller MISSION: BLACKLIST Starring Robert Pattinson

It’s been over a year since we heard anything regarding the psychological thriller Mission: BlacklistRobert Pattinson signed on to play soldier-turned-intelligence agent Eric Maddox, the man who spearheaded the capture of Saddam Hussein.  Erik Jendresen (Band of Brothers) wrote the screenplay based on Maddox’s 2008 book, Mission: Black List #1 – The Inside Story Of The Search For Saddam Hussein – As Told By The Soldier Who Masterminded His Capture (as a rule, non-fiction books must have at least 15 words in their title)Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire (Johnny Mad Dog) was attached to direct, but now Swedish director Jesper Ganslandt (Falkenberg Farewell) is on board to make his English-language debut.  According to Deadline, filming is set to begin this fall.

As for Pattinson, he’ll be seen later this year in the futuristic western The Rover.  He’s also attached to David Cronenberg‘s Maps to the Stars, James Marsh‘s Hold on to Me, and Lone Scherfig‘s Posh.  Hit the jump for the synopsis of Eric Maddox’s book.

Julianne Moore and John Cusack Join David Cronenberg’s MAPS TO THE STARS

The cast is finally coming together for director David Cronenberg’s next film.  Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis star Robert Pattinson has long been attached to appear in Maps to the Stars, and now THR reports that Julianne Moore, John Cusack, and Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method) are set to round out the cast.  Written by Bruce Wagner (Wild Palms), the film is described as a ghost story that “offers a critique of celebrity-obsessed society in Los Angeles,” the latter of which is quite a popular topic in film culture at the moment with Sofia Coppola’s similarly-themed film The Bling Ring set to hit theaters this summer.

There’s no word on the characters that the aforementioned actors will play, but production is set to begin in July in Toronto and Los Angeles with Entertainment One Films onboard to finance and distribute the indie.  Cronenberg previously stated that he was hoping to nab Viggo Mortensen to star in Maps to the Stars as well, but one assumes Cusack ended up taking that role instead.

Robert Pattinson, Sam Claflin, Douglas Booth, and Max Irons Circling POSH

An abundance of handsomeness could be in store for director Lone Scherfig’s (An Education) adaptation of Laura Wade‘s stage play PoshThe Daily Mail reports that Robert Pattinson, Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Douglas Booth (Noah), and Max Irons (The Host) are all in various stages of negotiations to star in the film.  The story centers on a fictional Oxford fraternity called The Riot Club and focuses on two new freshman inductees getting an overview of the club during one night.  The entirety of the story takes place in a private dining room, so it’ll be interesting to see how Scherfig translates the play to the screen.

Irons would take on the lead role in the film, but details regarding the other actors’ parts are unknown.  No one has officially signed on yet, and Pattinson is expected to mull over the script once he wraps The Rover.  As one can imagine, matching up the schedules of four up-and-comers is a bit of a logistical nightmare, so don’t set this cast lineup in stone just yet.

Guy Pearce Threatens Robert Pattinson in First Image from THE ROVER

The first image from director David Michod’s (Animal Kingdom) second feature film, The Rover, has been released online.  The futuristic western takes place in the Australian desert following a worldwide economic collapse and stars Guy Pearce as Eric, a man who has left everything, everyone and every semblance of human kindness behind him when a gang steals his last possession.  Eric sets out to track them down and along the way is forced to enlist the help of a naïve, injured member of the gang named Rey (Robert Pattinson).  Though the phrase “near-future, Australian-set western” automatically brings to mind George Miller’s masterful Mad Max series, Michod promises that The Rover is going to be “way more chillingly authentic and menacing” than those films.  That’s some strong talk, but considering how great Animal Kingdom is, I’m inclined to take Michod’s word for it.

Hit the jump to take a look at the image.  The film also stars Scoot McNairy (Argo), Susan Prior (Animal Kingdom), Gillian Jones (Oscar and Lucinda), Anthony Hayes (Burning Man) and David Field (Chopper).  The Rover opens later this year.

Before we get to the home video release of the final installment in the Twilight franchise, Breaking Dawn – Part 2, Lionsgate is readying the release of an extended edition of Part 1 on Blu-ray.  We recently learned that the extended edition includes 8 minutes of deleted and extended scenes put back into the film, and today one such scene has been released online: the “morning after” sequence.  As you may or may not be aware, the entire plot of Breaking Dawn – Part 1 consists of Kristen Stewart’s Bella and Robert Pattinson’s Edward getting married, bumping uglies, and having a baby.  This new scene, which I can only assume was deleted because of its alarming awkwardness-factor, features the two characters conversing over breakfast the morning after Edward deflowered Bella, breaking the bead in half in the process.

2013 Razzie Nominations Announced; TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2 Gets Nominated in Every Category

As we await the 85th Academy Award nominations announcement on Thursday morning, we now have a look at the opposite end of the 2012 film spectrum.  The 33rd Golden Raspberry Award nominations have been announced, celebrating the very worst of what 2012′s movie slate had to offer.  Leading the pack is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 with 10 nominations, as the film landed a nomination in every single category.  The Twilight closer will go head-to-head with Battleship, A Thousand Words, That’s My Boy, and The Oogieloves in Big Balloon Adventure for the Worst Picture title.

It’s easy to beat up on the Twilight franchise, and even though I wouldn’t go so far as to call Breaking Dawn – Part 2 a good movie, it’s in no way the worst movie of the year.  The sheer amount of beheadings alone in director Bill Condon’s climactic fight sequence is enough to make the movie worth watching.  Anyway, hit the jump to check out the full list of Razzie Awards nominations.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2 Review

It would be a gross understatement to say I haven’t been an ardent supporter of the Twilight franchise.  But I have tried to take each film on its own merits.  Nothing can change the fact that it has a despicable core message of how young women should relate to men, but there was always the potential for change.  Bella Swan could become a proactive character.  Edward Cullen and Jacob Black could be more than just brooding, softly smiling eye candy.  Somewhere, in the dreamy clouds of wish fulfillment, there may be something real instead of the silliest, most forced conflicts.  At the series’ conclusion, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 shows us what the Twilight movies could be at their best, but ultimately reminds us about the true nature of this series.

A new clip from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.  We recently saw a clip from the film in which Kristen Stewart’s Bella was having fun with her new vampire powers, but this clip focuses on the character re-learning how to act human.  Apparently it’s hard for vampires to control how awesome they are, so Bella has to consciously learn how to fake human things like blinking, slouching, and breathing.  What a drag!

Well, today is the day for supernatural sequel clips it seems, because we have two to share with you. First up from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2this new clip features newly-turned vampire, Bella (Kristen Stewart) arm wrestling against Emmett (Kellan Lutz).  They amazingly assembled everything about this property that sets my teeth on edge (bad dialogue, terrible make-up, impromptu musical cues, etc) into one concise clip.  Directed by Bill Condon, the film also stars Robert PattinsonTaylor Lautner, Mackenzie Foy, Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Elizabeth Reaser and Jackson Rathbone.  The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 opens November 16th.

We’ve also got a clip from Michael J. Bassett’s Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.   This one centers on Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) calling her father (Sean Bean) in fear that someone is following her.  He gives her some sage fatherly advice and then OH NO LOOK OUT SEAN BEAN! The film opens on October 26th.
