A new trailer for the final entry in the Twilight franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, has been released. If you’ve been waiting patiently to see Kristen Stewart viciously tackle a mountain lion, your moment has come. This trailer focuses on Stewart’s newfound vampire powers and sets up the major conflict in the film: the vampire government (cult?) the Volturi is angry because they think Bella and Edward created a vampire baby by biting a child, which is apparently frowned upon in the Twilight universe. As we all know, Renesmee is the fruit of some good old fashioned baby-makin’, but I guess instead of trying to sort out this misunderstanding, the two factions of vampires—and Jacob—decide it’s better to go to war. The drama and action levels look to have been upped considerably for this finale, and fans of the book series will likely be pleased with the results.

A frequent theme in the oeuvre of writer-director David Cronenberg is how we become alienated through the ubiquitous. We fail to notice how everyday facets of our lives are changing us on a fundamental level, and causing us to be alienated from ourselves and each other physically, mentally, and emotionally. In Videodrome, Crash, and eXistenZ, Cronenberg explored how technology warped our relationship to the world to the point where technology became organic and the organic became mechanical. In his last movie, A Dangerous Method, Cronenberg explored how psychotherapy causes people to become distanced from their emotions and psyches. In his latest film, Cosmopolis, Cronenberg turns his eye to capitalism, and has created a darkly comic, coldly calculating look at a world where everything is for sale and nothing has value. Like A Dangerous Method, Cosmopolis suffers from the lack of an emotional impact, which is the inevitable result of a story where characters have become disconnected from emotion, but the story will still leave your head spinning.

Just a few days ahead of the limited release of his new starring role in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, Robert Pattinson is reportedly joining Werner Herzog’s indie picture, Queen of the Desert. The picture, which stars Naomi Watts, centers on Gertrude Bell (Watts), “who was alternately a traveler, writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer, and political attaché for the British Empire at the dawn of the twentieth century. While only a commoner herself, Bell was nonetheless a kingmaker, helping found the modern states of Iraq and Jordan and installing their first rulers, King Abdullah and King Faisal.” Pattinson would play a young Lawrence of Arabia. Four new images from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 have gone online. Like the majority of images we’ve seen from the upcoming film, these show Bella and her new family being happy as can be. At worst, the characters are looking at something disconcerting. Based on the images alone, it looks like the movie is shaping up to be an L.L. Bean catalog where strange things are happening off camera.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Mackenzie Foy, Taylor Lautner, Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Elizabeth Reaser, Kellan Lutz, and Jackson Rathbone. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 opens November 16th.

Now that he’s done filming The Twilight Saga, Robert Pattinson is on a wonderful mission: use his star power to help directors we like get their movies made. The first notable example is Cosmopolis, the latest off-kilter film from director David Cronenberg that hits theaters on August 17. The next is The Rover, the second feature by Animal Kingdom director David Michod that co-stars Guy Pearce. According to THR, Screen Australia has stepped up to finance the The Rover. Here is why you should care:
“Set in the Australian desert, the futuristic western tells the story of Eric, who has left everything, everyone and every semblance of human kindness behind him, as he’s forced to join an injured gang member, Rey, to hunt down Rey’s gang after they steal the last of Eric’s possessions.”
I was hooked by word eight. Screen Australia will also finance Felony starring Joel Edgerton, Healing starring Hugo Weaving, and the Kim Jong-il movie Aim High in Creation. Hit the jump for details.

The cast and creative team of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 appeared recently at Comic-Con for the last time as the concluding film of the series is set to open this November 16th. But recent behind-the-scenes set photos from star Gil Birmingham, who played Jacob’s dad, give fans a look at the young stars back when it all started with Twilight in 2008. The images show off a fresh(er)-faced Robert Pattinson, a teenaged Kristen Stewart (complete with a cake and party on her 18th birthday) and a less wolfed-out Taylor Lautner. They also feature my favorite part of the entire Twilight saga: that sweet old Chevy truck that Bella gets from her dad. Love that thing. Hit the jump to take a trip back in time and check out the behind-the-scenes images.

Yesterday, the cast of the Twilight series hit the Hall H stage at Comic-Con for the last time in anticipation of the release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 later this year. Just before the public panel, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and author Stephenie Meyer took part in a press conference and fielded a number of questions regarding the franchise. You can read the full interview right here, but in case you missed it the group talked briefly about the prospect of rebooting the franchise in the future.
Since Twilight is a highly lucrative property, it only makes sense for a studio down the line to eventually restart the franchise and bring in a new director with a different vision for Meyer’s series. The actors and Meyer were all asked how they would feel if Twilight was rebooted, and some of their responses may surprise you. Hit the jump for more.

The first time I attended Comic-Con was the first time Twilight came to the massive geek gathering. I can still hear the shrieks, probably because I was in Hall H for the franchise’s final installment, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. This year’s panel began on a somber note, and there was a brief moment of silence for the Twilight fan who died on Tuesday. After the moment of silence, lead actors Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner were brought to the stage and met with the cheers they’ve always received at Comic-Con. The trio are joined by Mackenzie Foy, who plays Renesmee. Author Stephanie Meyer then takes the stage, making this her first Hall H appearance since the first movie. We then get a special video message from director Bill Condon, who’s currently in London working on the sound mix for Part 2. He tells the audience that the best way to start this panel is to pick up where Breaking Dawn – Part 1 left off. Hit the jump for my full recap of the panel.

A new trailer for David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis has gone online. The plot centers on wealthy businessman (Robert Pattinson) who loses his fortune in a single day, and this trailer does a good job of conveying that basic plotline. But as we’ve seen from previous trailers, the flick looks far stranger and unwieldy than such a simple premise. This new trailer feels like it’s trying to smooth out the edges of an insane-looking flick.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon, Mathieu Amalric, Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand, K’Naan, and Emily Hampshire. Cosmopolis opens in limited release August 17th.
