While at Comic-Con to do a big Hall H presentation, Elysium co-stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley spoke to press about the highly anticipated but very mysterious sci-fi film, from writer/director Neill Blomkamp. The filmmaker described it as being “about an orbital space station that has the rich living on it, while Earth is diseased and has been left behind.”

During the interview, the actors were clearly guarded in their responses, so as not to reveal too much, but they talked about who their characters are, the key to finding their performances, the themes that they’re addressing with the rich versus the poor, and what they think the world might really be like so far into the future. Check out what they had to say after the jump. Also, check out our recap of the Comic-Con panel.

Following his Hall H panel at Comic-Con, director Tim Burton held a press conference to discuss the highly anticipated stop-motion animation feature film Frankenweenie. Utilizing the charm of black and white combined with the technology of 3D, the story follows young Victor (voiced by Charlie Tahan), who conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended and monstrous, consequences.

During the interview, Burton talked about why this version of Frankenweenie feels new and special, how amazing it is to feel the love at Comic-Con, why he loves the medium of stop-motion, how the technology has changed since he started working with stop-motion, his films that stand out the most to him, whether he’d like to do more horror projects, how he feels about superhero movies, and his favorite ride at Disneyland. Check out what he had to say after the jump.  Also, check out our recap of the Comic-Con panel.

Saturday is a massive day in Hall H already with Django Unchained, The Hobbit, Pacific Rim, Man of Steel, and the Marvel panel, but Legendary had one more surprise in store for fans right after the Pacific Rim panel ended.  As Guillermo del Toro and the cast of Pacific Rim walked off the stage, Legendary head Thomas Tull announced that he had one more thing to show.  That “one more thing” was a genuinely fantastic teaser for the upcoming Godzilla remake from director Gareth Edwards.  Hit the jump for my recap along with a Godzilla teaser poster.

While at Comic-Con to do a big Hall H presentation, Elysium director Neill Blomkamp (District 9) spoke to press about the highly anticipated but very mysterious sci-fi film, for the first time. The filmmaker described it as being “about an orbital space station that has the rich living on it, while Earth is diseased and has been left behind.”

During the interview, Blomkamp talked about the themes he’s addressing in the film, what he thinks the world might really be like so far into the future, working with a bigger budget this time around, and why it’s taken three years for him to get another film out. He also talked about another film that he’s written, which is a sci-fi comedy called Chappie, about a robot character, and how he feels about higher frame rates and 2D versus 3D. Check out what he had to say after the jump. Also, check out our recap of the Comic-Con panel.

Comic-Con: Andrew W.K. Talks About Adult Swim Work and Says “Fuck You” to Certain Mothers

Andrew W.K. is a strange sort of fellow. After bursting onto the scene in the early ‘00s with his debut album I Get Wet (which featured tracks like Party Hard, Party Till You Puke and Fun Night), W.K. went into a contract dispute-induced hibernation. Now, after clearing up his legal issues, which he peppered over with a delightfully gonzo, Abby Hoffman inspired conspiracy theory that positioned W.K. as not just a major label shill, but also as a completely fictional character, the man is back. Except now, W.K. isn’t just singing. He’s also hosting, Destroy Build Destroy, a live action series on Cartoon Network, tearing up twitter, producing Emmy nominated Dub albums, running night clubs, promoting Taco Bell and giving lectures at Harvard…and My Little Pony conventions, just to name a few of his various achievements.

Earlier today I sat down with W.K. to discuss his comic-con concert, his love of all things Brony, whether one should, in fact, party until he or she pukes, astral projection, why mothers can fuck off, getting infections from Ke$ha, his work with Adult Swim and much, much more.  Hit the jump for the full one-on-one interview.

Earlier today, before taking the stage in Hall H at Comic-Con, the actors who make up the Cullen vampire family – Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed and Jackson Rathbone – held a press conference for a ton of reporters about The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt. 2, to discuss not only the last installment in the hugely popular franchise, but also their feelings on the entire experience and how it has personally affected them. Check out what they had to say after the jump.  Also, check out our recap of the Comic-Con panel and interview with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Stephenie Meyer.

Community is one of the best comedies on television.  But this offseason saw upheaval in the departure of Creator/Executive Producer Dan Harmon.  They were so unsure about a return that the last episode of the third season could act as a series finale.  Still, a fervent fan base has given the quirky show a fourth season, even if it comes with a move to Fridays.  The first table read is set for August 6th with shooting to begin August 13th.  Five of the cast sat down to talk about the upcoming season, the departure and the bit of plot they could share (the appearance of Jeff’s dad).  More after the break.

Comic-Con: First Look at New Armor from IRON MAN 3

One of the best stations on the exhibit floor at Comic-Con is the Marvel setup, with all the past Iron Man suits lined up in a row.  At least, when I visited on Wednesday night it was all the past suits.  Marvel has now added a new suit from Iron Man 3 to the row, with much more of the gold color and less of the red.

Directed by Shane Black and starring Robert Downey Jr., Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Rebecca Hall,  Ashley Hamilton, and Guy Pearce, Iron Man 3 opens May 3, 2013.  Hit the jump for the image.

Marvel One-Shot ITEM 47 Screening and Panel Recap; Marvel’s Louis D’Esposito Talks Shooting & Potential New Avengers

We were lucky enough to attend the Comic-Con screening of the latest Marvel one-shot Item 47, which will be included with The Avengers Blu-Ray/DVD release, arriving in stores September 25th.  Fans were invited to participate in a massive scavenger hunt throughout the Gaslamp Quarter that would lead them to the site of the screening.  Directed by Marvel Co-President Louis D’Esposito, the short film follows Jesse Bradford and Lizzy Caplan as a down and out couple who strike out on a bank robbing spree after finding a Chitauri weapon in the destruction caused by the final battle in The Avengers. Meanwhile, two S.H.I.E.L.D.  agents, played by Maximiliano Hernández and Titus Welliver, attempt to track down the desperate duo.

The previous Marvel one-shots The Consultant and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer released on the Thor and Captain America DVDs, respectively, were charming and fun but offered no great revelations.  Item 47 follows in the same vein; though the short is three times longer than the previous two installments and features a great deal more special effects.  To the audience’s delight, Robert Downey Jr. provided a comedic video introduction to the screening, filmed in a restroom stall on set for Iron Man 3 in North Carolina.  The screening was followed by a brief Q&A with the cast and crew; hit the jump for the highlights.

Comic-Con: SPARTACUS Interview with Steven S. DeKnight, Liam McIntyre, Manu Bennett, Cythia Addai-Robinson – Tales of Epic Endings, Loves and Tributes

I’ve been watching Spartacus since day two.  I somehow missed day one.  Spartacus is much more than sex and gore, it’s about heart.  It’s about the growth of these characters from slaves to freedom fighters.  So getting a chance to sit down with Steven S. DeKnight (executive producer), Liam McIntyre (Spartacus), Manu Bennett (Crixus) and Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Naevia) was a big treat.  They’d flown straight from set in New Zealand to talk about the series.  For what they had to say about the final season Spartacus: War of the Damned, airing on STARZ in January 2013, read on after the break.

Comic-Con Pilot Previews: REVOLUTION, THE FOLLOWING, 666 PARK AVENUE, and CULT

On Preview Night, Comic-Con screened five Warner Bros. Television pilots that will premiere in the upcoming television season: Revolution, The Following, 666 Park Avenue, Cult, and Arrow. Naturally, the disparate collection of shows is hit or miss. But overall, this was a solid package of genre TV to kick off Comic-Con. A couple of the shows exceeded my expectations, and I will definitely have to check in with most when they premiere in the fall (or midseason in the case of The Following).

I will be attending the Arrow screening and Q&A tomorrow at Ballroom 20, so I will hold my thoughts on that show for a future article. In the meantime, hit the jump for my brief thoughts on Revolution, The Following, 666 Park Avenue, and Cult.
