On the red carpet at tonight’s Saturn Awards, I was able to interview Bruce Greenwood.  We talked about J.J. Abrams Star Trek sequel, Robert Zemeckis’ Flight, Derek Cianfrance‘s The Place Beyond the Pines with Ryan Gosling, Atom Egoyan‘s Devil’s Knot (which also stars Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth and follows the true story of the West Memphis Three case), and more.

For fans of Star Trek, I asked Greenwood about filming with IMAX cameras, what the first few days were like on set, lens flairs, what it was like being on a fully constructed Enterprise bridge, and the size of Pike’s role in the sequel.  Hit the jump for what he had to say.

At tonight’s Saturn Awards, I was able to get a few minutes with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman on the red carpet.  With the show currently shooting season 3 in Atlanta, Kirkman says they’re about to start filming episode eight, which is the mid-season finale.  However, the big news for fans of the show came towards the end of the interview.  With the show getting huge ratings around the world, I asked if that has led to an increase in the production budget.  Kirkman said:

“I think you might see a few more dollars on the screen in the third season. It’s gonna be bigger.”

The 38th annual Saturn Awards were held last night in Burbank, California to honor the best films and television shows in the genres of science fiction, fantasy and horror.  In the film category, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Super 8 led the pack while the lion’s share of television honors went to Breaking Bad and Fringe.  Stay tuned for a ton of interviews from the night’s event and hit the jump to check out the full list of winners.

Now that the Oscars are finally over, the Saturn Awards have come along and graced with nominations that are actually fun/infuriating-in-their-own-way.  There’s some cross-over between Oscars and Saturn Awards this year with Hugo racking up 10 nominations.  But since the Academy doesn’t want to recognize genre movies, they ignored Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.  The Saturns are giving Mr. Potter his due, and the final chapter of the saga also nabbed 10 nominations.  Also doing well on the film side were Super 8 (8 nominations), Captain America: The First Avenger (7 nominations), The Adventures of Tintin and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (6 nominations each).  As for TV, Breaking Bad led with six nominations.  I can live with all of these (although eight nominations for Super 8 is pushing it).

Wait.  I just saw that there were no nominations for Drive.  Never mind.  The Saturn Awards are sham.  Hit the jump for the full list of nominees.  Winners will be announced on June 20th (a long ways off, but meant to hit in the heart of the summer movie season).

While at the 37^th annual Saturn Awards, we got the chance to speak with Sam Witwer (Being Human), Christopher Judge (Stargate SG-1), Kurtwood Smith (Robocop) and Vanessa Marano (Switched at Birth). The actors talked about their projects past and present, with Witwer speaking about the filming experience of Crank and Judge giving his reaction to X-Men: First Class.

We had the opportunity to speak with actor Doug Jones at the 37^th annual Saturn Awards. A mainstay in director Guillermo del Toro’s films, Jones is best known for his work playing non-human characters, usually in heavy makeup. He took on, with great success, the character of Abe Sapien in the Hellboy films and was poisitively terrifying as the Pale Man in Pan’s Labyrinth. During the interview, he spoke a bit about a third Hellboy film, his relationship with del Toro, and more.

As the 37^th annual Saturn Awards came to a close, I was lucky enough to snag a few minutes with The Punisher (2004) and Hung star Thomas Jane.

Always a blunt and shoot from the hip interview, Jane was especially candid this night, talking in detail about why he was fired from Walter Hill and Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming Headshot, his burgeoning music career, his upcoming Glen Sherley biopic, his comic company Raw Studios, a western that he’s written, a werewolf movie called The Lycan, and much, much more.  Hit the jump to check it out.

This is how Academy Award-winner Frank Darabont describes his Saturn Award winning cable series, The Walking Dead, which will enter its’ sophomore season this fall on AMC.

Darabont and producer Gale Anne Hurd were on hand at the 37^th annual Saturn Awards Thursday night and after accepting their award for Best Television Presentation, the duo gave us a few minutes of their time to discuss the show’s second season, including details on Michonne, which Darabont says is coming in the third season.  We also discuss films from the whole of Darabont’s career, debunk Nikki Finki’s rumor mill, get an peek into how killing a seven-year old became a mission statement for the show and more.  Hit the jump for 10 key quotes and the full audio interview.

Collider attended the 37^th annual Saturn Awards last night, and while at the ceremony we got the chance to interview Breaking Bad creator/showrunner Vince Gilligan.  He spoke at length about one of the best shows on television, talking about his approach to the upcoming season, what characters will be getting more screen time, guest directors for season four, why they’re trying to get Werner Herzog to direct an episode, plotting the end of the series (Gilligan sees season five as possibly the final season), and much, much more.  Here’s a choice quote:

“I would like to see Breaking Bad go—it kinda changes if you ask me last season or the season before versus this one, but right now I would say season five should probably be our last season. But you know, check with me a year from now, we’ll see if I change my tune.”

While on the red carpet for the 37^th annual Saturn Awards, we got the chance to speak with legendary makeup artist Rick Baker as well as Oscar winning makeup artist Dave Elsey. Baker was gracious enough to talk to us about his approach to makeup effects, how he became attached to monsters at a young age, his favorite creature that he’s designed thus far in his career, and he even spoke a little bit about Men in Black III, commenting on the production troubles the film has encountered. Additionally, Elsey talked about how he approaches makeup effects, and answered which is harder: applying makeup or having makeup applied on you.

While covering the red carpet for the 37^th annual Saturn Awards we were lucky enough to speak to Lance Reddick about the upcoming fourth season of Fringe.  Though he remained tightlipped on the specifics of the next season, Reddick gave us a few tidbits about his character arc subsequent to his doppelganger’s demise, the show’s move away from a monster-of-the-week format, what attracts him most to his character and more.  Hit the jump to watch.

While covering tonight’s 37^th annual Saturn Awards we got a chance to talk briefly with Superman Returns and Dylan Dog star Brandon Routh.  Routh talked about the possibility of a return to Chuck in its final season, what became of his role as a vampire in Bret Easton Ellis’s The Informers, his upcoming Lacross film, Crooked Arrows, which shoots in August and more.  Hit the jump to watch.

Earlier tonight we got a chance to chat with producer Dean Devlin at the Saturn Awards where he was accepting the Dr. Donald A. Reed Founder’s Award.

Devlin and director Roland Emmerich have long discussed the possibility of a follow-up to Independence Day and tonight Devlin confirmed that there is a concept and at least a written treatment for not one but two sequels.  He also discussed a pair of sequels to Stargate as well as staying at The Shining mansion while filming season 4 of Leverage and his Godzilla remake from the 90′s.  Hit the jump for the video.
