Here’s a quartet of TV casting updates coming right at ya. First up, EW has word that Robert Englund, the man behind the original Freddy Krueger, has signed on as a guest star on the forthcoming season of Chuck. The episode titled Chuck vs the Aisle of Terror is set to appropriately air around Halloween with Englund playing Dr Stanley Wheelwright, an evil scientist who can make your waking life a nightmare. Shouldn’t too difficult of a role for Englund to step into, and the content certainly allows plenty of opportunities for homage and jokes. Englund joins a whole slew of guest stars in Chuck’s fourth season including Linda Hamilton, Timothy Dalton, Eric Roberts, Lou Ferrigno, Dolph Lundgren and more.

The CW has released nine new images from the season ten premiere of Smallville, titled “Lazarus.” As fans know all too well, this is the final season of Smallville: the show will conclude in May of next year. The images feature star Tom Welling and John Schneider, who plays Clark’s father Jonathan Kent in the series. This marks Schneider’s return to the series after his character died of a heart attack in season five. Check out the images after the jump.

Later this year, DC is releasing an album including almost every DC movie, cartoon, and TV show theme song ever. 21 of the 31 tracks have never been released before, including Max Fleischer’s 1941 Superman theme, so if you’re a DC fan you’ll probably want this album. Some of the other tracks include unreleased music from Smallville, Justice League and Superfriends, and the CD will also include re-mastered versions of the Lois & Clark theme along with 7 different Batman themes. The album doesn’t include every single DC theme ever (as Topless Robot points out, the new Teen Titans theme is omitted) but it will have the vast majority of them. Hit the jump for a full track listing.

Here’s a trio of TV casting additions coming your way! First up, CBS announced today via press release that Michael J. Fox will guest star on the forthcoming season of The Good Wife where he’ll actually be facing off against series star Julianna Margulies. He’ll play Simon Canning, a shrewd and cynical litigator whom Alicia (Margulies) faces in a massive class action. Canning is willing to use anything in court, including symptoms of his neurological condition, to create sympathy for his otherwise unsympathetic client: a giant pharmaceutical company.
Despite his debilitating Parkinson’s disease keeping him from taking on more roles, Fox has previously been able to take on multi-episode arcs on shows like Scrubs, Boston Legal and Rescue Me (though he’ll only appear on one episode of The Good Wife). Fox has always been a favorite of mine from Back to the Future to Spin City and it’s a shame we don’t get to see him more often. Hit the jump for new casting for the final season of Smallville and NBC’s forthcoming remake of The Rockford Files.

As we get closer to September, the networks are starting to release the first promos to tease the new seasons of their returning shows, and we thought you might find it useful if we gathered them all on Collider. The CW tends to kick off the fall season a bit earlier than the rest of the networks, which means at this stage in the game we have a fairly comprehensive early look. (Of course, a few marketing departments have risen to the challenge.) Check out promos for the new seasons of The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Smallville, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, and 90210 after the jump.

At the Television Critics Association Press Tour on Thursday afternoon, Dawn Ostroff, President of Entertainment for The CW Television Network, took some time to talk to the press about the network’s upcoming programming and how it will fit in with it’s current slate of shows.
Last season, The CW premiered The Vampire Diaries, which went on to become the network’s #1 series. This season, the hit vampire drama will be paired with Nikita (which stars Maggie Q)m, in an attempt to bring both shows a wider audience. The other new Fall series, Hellcats, from executive producer Tom Welling and starring Ashley Tisdale and Alyson Michalka, will be paired with Tyra Bank’s reality series America’s Next Top Model.
Along with explaining their Internet marketing campaign, Dawn Ostroff also gave some hints as to what fans can expect from the upcoming seasons of The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural, which has a new show-runner this year, as well as the last season of Smallville. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

With the tenth and final season of CW’s Man of Steel series Smallville approaching fast, our first look at what’s coming this fall has finally been revealed in the form of a very teasing trailer. Though the video isn’t composed of entirely new footage (it features some quick flashes from the 9th season) there’s plenty of action. But perhaps the biggest tease comes at the very end when the rotating logo of The Daily Planet atop a Metropolis skyscraper has a red and blue blur quickly fly past. The biggest complaint from fans of Smallville and Superman has come from a lack of red and blue tights for the Man of Steel. Continued after the jump:

The final season of Smallville is upon us and Clark Kent is ready to grow up to become Superman. In a quick roundtable interviews for the press, actors Erica Durance, John Schneider, Cassidy Freeman and Justin Hartley were in attendance. In addition, executive producer Brian Peterson and producer Kelly Souders were on hand to provide some insights to the final season.
Some of the conversations were about how Smallville was going to handle its final farewell tour with the story arcs and rumors of appearances of certain well known characters of the show. And the show’s producers also nixed the possibilities of spin-offs since it is too early to speculate. So hit the jump for some of the highlighted conversations from the roundtable.

Every year at Comic-Con, the studios find new and interesting ways to promote their new and returning TV shows and movies. For the past two years, Warner Bros. Entertainment has used hotel room key cards as a way to raise awareness for some of their shows. Since the promotion worked in the past, they’ve just announced they’re doing it again and they’ve created five limited-edition collectible key cards featuring specially designed artwork for Smallville, Supernatural, V, Batman: Under the Red Hood and a DC Comics App. You can see what they look like after the jump. According to the press release, the cards will be used for 29,000 hotel room keys…meaning if you’re going to Comic-Con, you’re going to probably get one.

Here’s a bit of ripe TV casting news including a superhero, a villain and a sweet old lady. First up, EW reports that Laura Vandervoort will reprise her role as Clark Kent’s cousin Kara (aka Supergirl) to wrap up the character’s story with one episode during the final season of Smallville. Vandervoort hasn’t been seen since the seventh season of the series, but she’ll be making he final appearance as Supergirl fairly early on in the final season with the episode tentatively set to air sometime in October. Surely there’s plenty more surprises in store for Smallville fans as the series comes to an end after ten seasons.

Walking the convention floor at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, you’ll most likely pick up a lot of swag and make a lot of purchases. And Warner Bros. has the solution for all that you will own from this Con: an over-sized bag. I still have the Watchmen one I picked up at the 2008 convention. It holds almost every other bag I own. If you’re wearing it over your shoulder, the bag stretches down to your ankle.
Warner Bros. has released images of the bags they’ll be giving out this year. There will be 11 different bags this year and they’ll be handing them out individually rather than being stampeded by individual Con-goers. The only different between them is the movie or TV show that’s being promoted. Hit the jump to see the bags featuring Clash of the Titans DVD/Blu-ray, The Looney Tunes Show, Batman: The Brave and the Bold videogame, Brightest Day, and Smallville/Supernatural. They’ll also be handing out bags promoting The Big Bang Theory, Fringe, Human Target, Nikita, The Vampire Diaries, and Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated. It should be noted that the Smallville/Supernatural bag is smaller, but will only be available at Warner Bros.’ booth (#4545).

In terms of movie-related programming, the San Diego Comic-Con ends on Saturday. The schedule for Sunday, July 25th is now online and it’s “Kids’ Day”. That means there are a lot of Nickelodeon and Disney Channel panels as well as craft panels and screenings that are perfect for parents.
For geeks though, Sunday is all about picking up that last-minute collectible, walking the floor, or seeing some TV panels. Hall H isn’t even open on Sunday, so instead all eyes turn to the second biggest room, Ballroom 20, where the biggest panel of the day by far is the one for Glee. But that’s not all. Smallville, Supernatural and Castle all will have presentations on Sunday too. And panels featuring Sons of Anarchy and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia are pretty much guaranteed to slap Kids’ Day in the face.
You can check out the schedules for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at their corresponding link. Hit the jump for our highlights of the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con’s closing day.

IFC has announced via press release that they’ve acquired the syndication rights for two Judd Apatow-produced series, Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared. The notice is short (Freaks reruns start airing Friday July 2 at 11/10c), but the news is fantastic. Created by Paul Feig in 1999, the high school dramedy Freaks and Geeks was cancelled after one season but helped launch the careers of Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Jason Segel. The college sitcom Undeclared launched shortly after in 2001 with Jay Baruchel at the center, and likewise lasted only one season; Undeclared will debut on IFC in the fall.
After the jump, check out the fall premiere dates for such CW shows as The Vampire Diaries, Smallville, and Supernatural, as well as details on the Comic-Con visit of NBC conspiracy thriller The Event.
