THOR: THE DARK WORLD End Credits Scene Explained

by     Posted 264 days ago

As with all Marvel movies, Thor: The Dark World contained an end credits scene.  Two in fact, but only one was important to future movies.  It’s also probably the most confusing to mainstream audiences thus far.  Whereas other “stingers” were clear references like Thor’s hammer at the end credits of Iron Man 2, the reference during the end credits of Thor: The Dark World probably left a lot of non-comics fans scratching their heads.

In an attempt to clear some things up, I’ve put together an explanation of the scene, and you can read it after the jump.  Obviously, this explanation contains spoilers.

During my video interview with Hiddleston, he talked about his popularity online, the film’s humor, how they wanted to give all the characters more texture and deepen the world of Asgard in the sequel, his thoughts on the possibility of a solo Loki movie, getting ready to work with Guillermo del Toro on Crimson Peak, and more.  Hit the jump to watch.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD Review

The biggest hurdle of 2011’s Thor wasn’t getting audiences to believe that a Norse god/space alien was just as convincing as a wealthy inventor with technologically advanced armor or a guy whose body turns big and green when he gets angry.  The challenge was leaving Earth and taking us to a new world, and while Kenneth Branagh’s film didn’t hold up for me on repeat viewings, I was still taken with his vision of Thor’s homeworld of Asgard.  Thor: The Dark World is a case of being careful what you wish for and being grateful for what you have.  Alan Taylor’s sequel becomes far too enamored with the design of otherworldly realms and the supernatural machinations of the villain than with its eponymous hero.  But when the story finally turns its attention to the God of Thunder and his scene-stealing adopted brother, then The Dark World hits with the force of Mjolnir.

There are many strange recesses of the Internet, and one of them belongs to slashfic writers.  “Slashfic” is like fan fiction except it involves putting together any characters together in a sexual relationship.  It doesn’t matter what their relationship is in the official version; if they’re characters, you can make them bump uglies.  With that in mind, Thor/Loki slashfic writers must be ecstatic to see this Shanghai poster for Thor: The Dark World.  The imgur poster says they’ve used the wrong poster, but I couldn’t disagree more.  Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has far more chemistry with Loki (Tom Hiddleston) than he does with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman)

agents-of-shield-thor-2-crossover

Ladies and gentlemen, we have our first crossover between Marvel’s TV show and feature film divisions.  Just in time for sweeps, the November 19th episode of ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to deal directly with the aftermath of Thor: The Dark World, picking up where the feature film leaves off.  In an effort to make this whole thing as nerdy as possible, Star Trek alum Jonathan Frakes is directing the episode.  The official logline for “The Well” is as follows:

“In the aftermath of the events chronicled in the feature film Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, Coulson and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pick up the pieces–one of which threatens to destroy a member of the team.”

Hit the jump for more on the crossover, including whether any Thor castmembers will be popping up.  Thor: The Dark World opens in U.S. theaters on November 8th.

Available for pre-order now via Sideshow Collectible’s, the Thor – Asgardian Light Armor sixth-scale figure will set you back $229.99.  Hit the jump for more.

TOP 5: First Trailer for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, DIVERGENT Set Visit, THOR: THE DARK WORLD, ANCHORMAN 2, Superheroes Who Never Were

Last weekend I checked out director Kimberly Peirce‘s Carrie remake and found it to be a perfectly solid retelling of Brian De Palma‘s 1976 classic. With a solid lead performance from Chloë Grace Moretz and a downright terrifying turn by Julianne Moore, I found more than a few things to like about the pic. I also thought the opening scene was terrific and was surprised to hear Judy Greer tell Steve that it wasn’t in the original script. Although I knew how the story would play out, I found myself wanting so badly for Carrie’s prom night to go smoothly which I think is a credit to Peirce’s direction and the time she takes setting up the obstacle-laden road Carrie traverses on the way to her first date. Ultimately, is there anything extraordinarily fresh and/or updated about the remake? Not really. Nevertheless, it’s a solid movie that proves Stephen King‘s tale is just as relevant and effective today as it was nearly four decades ago.

With my paragraph review of Carrie in the bag, this week’s Top 5 highlights the first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Adam’s Divergent set visit, Steve’s Thor: The Dark World video interviews with Chris Hemsworth and more, two new trailers for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, and Evan’s look at superhero movie casting decisions that nearly came to fruition. Much like in the past, a brief recap and link to each of the above is waiting after the jump.

In honor of Thor: The Dark World hitting theaters, a new exhibit called “Thor: Treasures of Asgard” will be at Disneyland Park – starting November 1st and running until January 6, 2014 – and Collider was given the opportunity to head on over to the amusement park and check out all the cool artifacts on display.

Inside Innoventions, which is quickly being taken over by all things Marvel (Tony Stark’s Hall of Armor is still on display), you check out “the sacred treasures of an ancient realm” and even seek an audience with the God of Thunder himself.  The purpose of the exhibit, made possible by Jane Foster, is to forge an alliance between Earth and Asgard, and allows the Bifrost (a cosmic bridge that links the nine realms) to be open at coordinates that locate it directly inside of Disneyland.  While there, you will get to see an array of various weapons, a skiff toy, a Dark Elf mask, Heimdall’s helmet and long sword, Loki’s helmet and shackles, and the Book of Yggdrasil.  Hit the jump to see some photos of this awesome new Disneyland experience.

  • Thor: The Dark World - Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) go flying to evade pursuit.  Thor turns out to be a destructive pilot, while Loki settles for destructive criticism as a backseat driver.
  • Ender’s Game – Petra (Hailee Steinfeld) takes Ender (Asa Butterfield) into the zero gravity Battle Room for some late night practice.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige Talks When His Contract with Marvel Studios Expires; Says He’s Now on Through Phase 3

by     Posted 284 days ago

Kevin-Feige-Marvel-contract-phase-3-slice

While everyone talks about Marvel’s contracts with their actors, you rarely hear about contracts with their key executives.  The fact is one of the reasons Marvel movies have been so successful is their leadership under Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.  Since the first Iron Man movie, Feige has taken the studio from nothing to being one of the biggest brands on the planet.  It’s an incredible accomplishment and one that led Disney to purchase the company for four billion dollars.

About five months ago, I decided to ask Feige when his contract with Marvel ends.  At the time, he said he’d definitely be with Marvel through Phase Two, which ends with The Avengers: Age of Ultron.  Since it’s been awhile, when I sat down with him earlier today in London for a Thor: The Dark World interview, I asked the same question.  Thankfully, it sounds like he’s made a new deal with Marvel, because he said, “I think it’ll be awhile.  At least through the next phase or so.”  As a big fan of what Feige has done and Marvel movies, it’s very cool to know he’ll be with them for the foreseeable future.  Hit the jump to watch what he had to say and look for more with Feige very soon.
