First Full Trailer for PSYCHO Prequel Series BATES MOTEL

by     Posted 2 years, 4 days ago

The first full trailer for the upcoming A&E series Bates Motel has been released.  The show comes from Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and Friday Night LightsKerry Ehrin and serves as a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film Psycho, with Freddie Highmore as a young Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga as his mother.  We previously saw a couple of moody teasers that were more than a little reminiscent of Twin Peaks, but this full trailer really ups the ante on the creepiness.  The second half of the trailer actually plays more like a featurette, with the cast and crew discussing the series.  Farmiga notes that they’re not remaking Psycho, they’re “using it as an inspiration.”  My interest is sufficiently piqued.

Hit the jump to watch the 2-minute trailer.  The series also stars Nestor CarbonellMax ThieriotOlivia Cooke, and Mike Vogel.  Bates Motel premieres on A&E in March 2013.

First Two Teaser Trailers for A&E’s PSYCHO Prequel Series BATES MOTEL

by     Posted 2 years, 18 days ago

A couple of tantalizing teaser trailers for A&E’s upcoming Psycho prequel series Bates Motel have been released.  We just recently saw a batch of images from the show that gave us a look at Freddie Highmore as the legendary Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga as his mother, Norma, and at the time I noted a bit of a Twin Peaks vibe.  That comparison seems even more valid after these two trailers, which tease a couple of haunting scenarios and hint that everything might not be what it seems at the eponymous Bates Motel.  The series comes from Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and Friday Night Lights alum Kelly Ehrin, so I’ve got high hopes for this one.

New Trailer for THE HOST from Writer/Director Andrew Niccol and Author Stephenie Meyer

by     Posted 2 years, 35 days ago

A new trailer for The Host has gone online.  It does a solid job of setting up the plot, and sells the love-story angle hard, which is what you would expect when you bill the flick as coming from Stephanie Meyer, author of The Twilight Saga.  I’m just not sure if the sci-fi element will attract or turn off the audience the movie intends to attract.  Even though Twilight has werewolves and vampires, no one would call it anything but a romance.  Hunger Games has an easier time of selling itself as an action-adventure with a romantic subplot.  But The Host hasn’t been the literary success of either of those franchises, and without that support, I don’t know how the film will do, especially when March is so crowded with big releases.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, William Hurt, Jake Abel and Max IronsThe Host opens March 29, 2013.

New Trailer for STRUCK BY LIGHTNING from Writer/Star Chris Colfer

by     Posted 2 years, 50 days ago

At a time when the East Coast is being savaged by what could be one of the most devastating storms on record in Hurricane Sandy, Yahoo has decided to release a trailer for Struck by Lightning.  Whether this is an innocent oversight or a callous PR move, don’t blame the filmmakers.  Among them are writer/star Chris Colfer, who is best known for his role on Fox’s Glee but channels his high school angst into this new teen dramedy feature.  Directed by Brian Dannelly (Saved!), Struck by Lightning follows Carson Phillips (Colfer), a misunderstood teen who uses blackmail as a last resort to catapult him towards his dream of becoming editor of The New Yorker.  The film also stars Rebel WilsonSarah HylandAllison JanneyDermot MulroneyChristina HendricksAllie Grant, and Angela Kinsey.  Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.

THE CENTRAL PARK FIVE Trailer and Poster

by     Posted 2 years, 56 days ago

In 1989, five minority teenagers were arrested for the rape of a white woman in New York’s Central Park.  Wrongly convicted and sentenced to prison without any physical evidence, including DNA, that tied them to the crime, the five were released after serving no less than six years in prison.  The Central Park Five, a new documentary from directors Ken and Sarah Burns and David McMahon, revisits the events surrounding this two-sided tragedy and examines the culture of racism and mob-mentality that accompanied it.  Hit the jump to see the new trailer and poster for The Central Park Five.

First Trailer for IRON MAN 3

by     Posted 2 years, 57 days ago

The first trailer for director Shane Black‘s Iron Man 3 has been released and it’s looking a lot darker for Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) this time around. Following the events of The AvengersStark is a bit more shaken up than one would have expected.  His nightmares plague him with sleepless nights and constant fear that harm will befall the people he cares about.  And it’s looking like his greatest technological achievement will become his biggest threat.  At least until the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) makes his appearance in grand fashion (though I’m not 100% sold on his accent).

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film stars also stars Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Ashley Hamilton, Jon Favreau and James Badge DaleIron Man 3 opens on May 3rd, 2013.

A new red-band trailer has gone online for writer/director John Hyams’ Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoningstarring Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van DammeScott Adkins and Andrei Arlovski. This trailer leans heavily on the psychological mind-fuckery that comes with being turned into a universal soldier, but it’s equally focused on the action as well.  The only downside is the intermittent blasts of seizure-inducing strobes that flicker over cast intros or quotes from movie sites.  If you can get through that without experiencing an epileptic event, then you’ll be sure to enjoy the brutality of this red-band trailer.  Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning is available On Demand starting October 25th with a theatrical release on November 30th.  Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.

First Trailer for HOLY MOTORS is Bananas, Oddly Intriguing

by     Posted 2 years, 59 days ago

From writer/director Leos Crax (The Lovers on the Bridge) comes Holy Motors, a off-the-rails journey that follows a day in the life of an actor who transforms into nine different characters across multiple genres.  The first trailer for the French film has gone online and you can make of it what you will, but without seeing the whole film, I’m completely lost but enjoying the ride.  Check out Matt Goldberg’s review of the film from Fantastic Fest 2012 to get caught up.

Holy Motors, starring Denis Lavant, Edith Scob, Kylie Minogue and Eva Mendes, is touring the festival circuit.  Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.

First Trailer and Poster for SAVE THE DATE Starring Lizzy Caplan and Alison Brie

by     Posted 2 years, 60 days ago

The first trailer and poster have gone online for director Michael Mohan’s romantic comedy, Save the Date.  Starring Lizzy Caplan (Party Down) and Alison Brie (Community) as sisters with drastically different views on marriage, Save the Date explores the familial and romantic bonds that tie us together and what happens when they break apart.  The trailer suggests that Save the Date might be just the right movie for those of you who despise typical, trite rom-coms with predictably nauseating endings.  It also suggests that it’s a movie to avoid if you despise hipsters.

Save the Date also stars Geoffrey Arend, Martin Starr and Mark Webber and will be available on a variety of online platforms starting November 8th, with a theatrical release beginning December 14th.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer, poster and synopsis.
