How does one dress for a mass exodus onto a giant wooden ark that will be surrounded by rising flood waters for an indefinite period of time?  Why, with homemade t-shirts, head wraps and fashionable boots!  At least that’s what the cast of Darren Aronofsky’s Noah was wearing in these recent set photos.  The images show off Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson in costume on their way to/from set, along with titular star Russell Crowe short-sleeved and bearded.  If you haven’t seen it yet, check out an image of the finished ark here; drafty!

Official Synopsis for THOR: THE DARK WORLD Revealed

Though Phase One of Marvel Studios’ film slate came to an end just a few months ago with The Avengers, production on Phase Two is already well underway.  The studio is currently in the midst of filming two upcoming sequels at the same time: Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World.  The Iron Man production is winding down to a close ahead of that film’s May 2013 release date, but filming on Thor: The Dark World is still going strong in London and today the first official synopsis for the Asgardian pic has been revealed.

The logline essentially tells us what we already know: Thor (Chris Hemsworth) must fight against Maleketih (Christopher Eccleston) and his race of Dark Elves, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is back, the fate of the universe is in the balance, etc.  However, the synopsis does tease the film’s epic scope and the fact that Thor is forced to “sacrifice everything” in order to save us all (Thor dies?!).  Hit the jump to check out the full synopsis, which includes the full cast list.  Directed by Alan Taylor, Thor: The Dark World opens on November 8th, 2013.

First Trailer and New Poster for HITCHCOCK Starring Anthony Hopkins

The first trailer and a new poster for director Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock have been released.  The film looks absolutely fascinating, with killer performances from stars Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren as the legendary director and his wife.  The story chronicles the troubled production of Psycho, but there’s a great deal of humor sprinkled throughout this trailer to balance the more dramatic material.  The chemistry between Hopkins and Mirren is palpable, and the makeup work on Hopkins is simply stunning.  Though the fall movie season is already packed with some fantastically promising films, this swell first trailer has rocketed Hitchcock towards the top of my most anticipated list.

A batch of new images from director Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock and a new look at Emmy Rossum in the fantasy adaptation Beautiful Creatures have landed online.  We previously saw a few low-quality images from Hitchcock last week, but this new crop gives us a much better look at Anthony Hopkins as the legendary director, Helen Mirren as his wife, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, and James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins.  The highly anticipated film takes place during the production of the horror classic Psycho and centers on the relationship between Hitchcock and his wife.  The pic opens on November 23rd.

Additionally, a new image of Emmy Rossum in director Richard LaGrevenese’s Southern supernatural romance adaptation Beautiful Creatures has surfaced.  The story centers on two mystically charged teens who are mysteriously drawn to one another despite never having met, and uncover some unsettling secrets about their families and the small southern town in which they live.  The film opens on February 13th, 2013.  Hit the jump to check out images from Hitchcock and Beautiful Creatures.

A few new images from the real-life drama Hitchcock have landed online.  The film stars Anthony Hopkins as the legendary director and centers on his relationship with his wife Alma Reville (Helen Mirren) during the troubled production of Psycho.  Fox Searchlight recently pushed the film into a prime awards season November release date, and the pic is slated to make its world premiere at the AFI Fest on November 1st.  These images give us a look at Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles, and James D’Arcy as Norman Bates himself, Tony Perkins.  We also get a look at Hopkins and Mirren as Mr. and Mrs. Hitchcock.  Backstage stories are always fascinating and I can’t wait to see what director Sacha Gervasi has put together.

When director Sacha Gervasi’s drama Hitchcock entered production this year, most assumed that we wouldn’t see the pic until next awards season.  However, after getting a look at the finished film, Fox Searchlight just recently decided to throw the Anthony Hopkins-fronted pic into this year’s awards race with a November release date.  Now the American Film Institute has announced that Hitchcock has been selected as the AFI Fest’s opening night film, where it will make its world premiere.  The film takes place during the troubled production of legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and centers on the relationship between Hitchcock and his wife Alma Reville (Helen Mirren).

The stacked cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, James D’Arcy, Toni Collette and Michael Stuhlbarg, so I’m eager to hear first impressions of the film from the festival.  AFI has also chosen Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln as the festival’s closing night film, so AFI Fest is shaping up to be one hell of an event.  Expect the first reactions to Hitchcock on November 1st, when it premieres at the festival.  The film hits theaters on November 23rd.  Hit the jump to read the full press release.

You may know him as Remus Lupin from the Harry Potter films, but now David Thewlis is set to join another franchise.  Thewlis will be a newcomer to Red 2, a sequel to director Robert Schwentke’s 2010 actioner.  Dean Parisot (Galaxy Queset) is taking the helm this time around, but original stars Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Mary-Louise Parker will be reprising their roles.  Other new cast members include Catherine Zeta-Jones, Byung-hun Lee, Neal McDonough and Anthony Hopkins.  Hit the jump for more on Thewlis’ character and a breakdown of the roles we know so far.

Though it will have been a long four years since his last film once the Biblical epic is released, director Darren Aronofsky’s Noah is shaping up to be well worth the wait.  Russell Crowe is onboard to play the titular protagonist in Aronofsky’s close adaptation of the Noah’s Ark story from the Bible, as Noah is given a divine mission of building an ark to save creation from the impending flood.  Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth round out an already impressive cast, and now Aronofsky has announced (via his Twitter) that the incredibly talented Sir Anthony Hopkins has signed on to star as Methuselah.  Hit the jump for more.

THOR 2 Recruits Zachary Levi for the Warriors Three

Not all of the Warriors Three will be returning for Thor 2.  While Volstagg (Ray Stevenson) and Hogun (Tadanobu Asano) will be reprising their roles as two of the warriors from Thor, Fandral (Josh Dallas) apparently will not.  Dallas’ prior commitments to the ABC series, Once Upon a Time, will prevent him from joining the sequel.  So reports have it that Marvel is looking to ex-secret agent super-spy, Zachary Levi (Chuck) to fill the role.  Hit the jump for more.

First Trailer and Poster for Fernando Meirelles’ 360 Starring Jude Law, Rachel Weisz and Anthony Hopkins

The first trailer and poster for director Fernando Meirelles’ (City of God) 360 have landed online.  The film was written by Frost/Nixon scribe Peter Morgan and tells the interconnected stories of characters played by Jude Law, Rachel Weisz, Ben Foster, and Anthony Hopkins.  The film actually premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and—given the talent involved—was surprisingly met with a lukewarm response (read Matt’s review here).  I kept an open mind after reading reactions, but this trailer doesn’t inspire much confidence in the film.  It invokes the played-out plot device of using a bunch of apparent strangers’ interwoven stories to tackle some grand theme, but it just feels a bit too much like Babel or Crash to rouse any enthusiasm.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster to judge for yourself.  360 will be available on iTunes on June 29th and hits theaters August 3rd.

Kevin Feige Talks New Villain for THOR 2, Confirms It Won’t Be Thanos

The success of Marvel’s The Avengers has allowed the comic book universe to introduce its rogues gallery to theater-going audiences, bringing in such extraterrestrial villains as Thanos, the Mad Titan.  Thor was the first of the recent Marvel movies to use other-worldly magic as a power source instead of Tony Stark’s technology in Iron Man or the science behind the genesis of Captain America and the Hulk.  In a recent interview, Kevin Feige confirmed that the death-obsessed Eternal would not be making an appearance in Thor 2; another big villain would be stepping in.  We know that Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman will reprise the roles of Thor and Jane Foster respectively (not to mention the return of Idris Elba as Heimdall).  We also know that Tom Hiddleston will return as Loki, but that’s not a new big villain.  And we know Mads Mikkelsen is set to play a villain, so who could it be? Hit the jump to see what Feige had to say.

Anthony Hopkins May Play the Villain in RED 2

Earlier this month a major casting announcement for Red 2 was made.  We learned that Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren and Mary-Louise Parker will all be returning for the follow-up to the 2010 hit, joined by newcomers Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee.  Now it appears that director Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) has found his villain.  Heat Vision reports that Anthony Hopkins is in negotiations to join the cast as the film’s baddie, but he has a few scheduling issues to work out first.  He’s set to return as Odin in Thor 2, which is also shooting later this year, but the actor is apparently keen on taking the Red 2 role as well.  Hit the jump for more.
