Paramount has released 24 hi-res images from Star Trek Into Darkness. These images come from Paramount’s press site, and going through them one-by-one, I noticed something strange: there’s no Chekov (Anton Yelchin). Perhaps it’s just an oversight on the studio’s part, but every other member of the Enterprise crew is in at least one photo. This could be nothing, but if Abrams were to kill off a character, he could possibly get away with Chekov (as opposed to a more popular character like Bones or Scotty).
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Peter Weller, and Alice Eve. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in IMAX 3D on May 15th, and 3D and 2D on May 17th.

A new poster for has been released for Star Trek Into Darkness, and it’s similar to a recent one except this time, Benedict Cumberbatch is walking away from a burning futuristic London instead of giant crewmembers of the U.S.S. Enterprise. It’s a more effective poster even though it puts all of the focus on the bad guy instead of the heroes.

The cast for director Guillermo del Toro’s next film, the haunted house thriller Crimson Peak, just keeps getting better. Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) are already set to lead the pic, and now none other than Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to join the cast. Plot details are being kept firmly under wraps, but the immensely talented del Toro previously described the project as “very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.” Hit the jump for more.

Seven new images from J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek Into Darkness have gone online. There’s nothing too mind-blowing in this batch, but the marketing for the upcoming sequel isn’t going to slow down with only six weeks to go until opening day. Of course, the demand for that marketing isn’t going to subside either, so this works out for every one.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Peter Weller, Alice Eve, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in IMAX 3D on May 15th and in 2D and 3D on May 17th.

Fox Searchlight is getting its Oscar plans in order by announcing that they’ve set Steve McQueen‘s Twelve Years a Slave for December 27th. Based on Solomon Northup’s autobiography of the same name, Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Northup, an educated and married black man living in 1853 New York. Northup was approached by two men about a job offer in Washington D.C., but when he showed up he was kidnapped and forced into slavery. The film has lined up one of the best casts in recent memory. In addition to Ejifor, the film also stars Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Paul Dano, Scoot McNairy, Quvenzhane Wallis, Paul Giamatti, Sarah Paulson, Garrett Dillahunt, Alfre Woodard, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Fox Searchlight’s Oscar odds also go up when you consider that two films involving slavery—Lincoln and Django Unchained—grabbed Best Picture nominations last year (somehow, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter missed the cut).
The only other film set for December 27th’s is The Weinstein Company’s Oscar-hopeful Grace of Monaco starring Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly. I can’t wait to see Twelve Years a Slave, and I hope it will play at TIFF like McQueen’s first two features, Hunger and Shame.

Earlier today, Paramount released an exciting new trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness, and because they’re all about the secrets, they put in a devious little bit of added marketing into one of the shots. In the UK and Australian versions of the trailer, there’s a bit.ly link to the new poster. You may have missed it because it’s tiny, in the background, and also behind a scantily clad Alice Eve. So remember: if someone walks in on you ogling a freeze-frame of some starlet in her underwear, just reply, “I was only looking for a secret URL! And my pants are off because it’s warm in here!”
Hit the jump to check out the new poster. The film also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Peter Weller, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in IMAX 3D on May 15th, and 3D and 2D on May 17th.

Paramount has released a new international trailer for J.J. Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. It’s got everything we’ve seen in earlier trailers and a lot more. This time around, we get the action sequences in the presumed order they’ll appear in the full feature which gives us a much better sense of story. The trailer also shows that Kirk (Chris Pine) is taking things much more seriously than he did in the first film. There are also plenty of quips from the fantastic supporting cast (and a hot shot of a barely-dressed Alice Eve as a bonus) that show the crew can still keep some levity amidst all the doom and gloom. Oh, and Benedict Cumberbatch is positively venomous. This is how you release a new trailer!
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Bruce Greenwood. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in IMAX 3D on May 15th, and in 2D and 3D on May 17th.

If you have the Star Trek Into Darkness app, then you were treated to two new images from the film last night. For those who don’t have the app, the images are online anyway. Either way, they’re nothing amazing. No images of Klingons or Benedict Cumberbatch’s character wearing a “Hello, My Name Is” sticker. They’re just plain old images to keep the hungry Trek masses at bay.
Hit the jump to check out the images and get your Trek fix. The film also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Zoe Saldana, Peter Weller, John Cho, and Noel Clarke. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in IMAX 3D on May 15th, and opens in 2D and 3D on May 17th.

It’s an exciting week for fans of Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ excellent BBC series Sherlock. We learned yesterday that season three of the show is set to begin filming next Monday, with the three new installments slated to begin airing on BBC One this winter. Now comes the even better news that Sherlock will be continuing even further, as star Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed that he and Martin Freeman agreed to two more series, which means that season four is essentially guaranteed. Hit the jump for more.

Two of Britain’s best recent miniseries are finally gearing up for new seasons: on the heels of Idris Elba‘s psychological crime drama Luther‘s third season announcement, there has now finally been confirmation of a new series of the BBC One hit Sherlock as well. Though Sherlock was more of a “when, not if” scenario (with writing taking place, reportedly, near the end of last year), its stars have been busy with other projects – Benedict Cumberbatch has been in Germany filming the Wikileaks movie The Fifth Estate, while Martin Freeman has been filming The Hobbit trilogy.
But somehow it’s all finally coming together (Amen!) and initial read-throughs will start next Monday. This is a few months after its original shooting date, but better late than never. Hit the jump for more about upcoming directors for the three new episodes.

A new teaser trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness has gone online and showcases about as much action and wit as you can cram into a runtime of just over a minute. While the first trailer and first teaser seemed to rely on setting up Kirk and John Harrison’s feud, this latest entry is for the most part Kirk/Enterprise-centric. The entire cut is entertaining but the highlight for me has to be Kirk acknowledging his own status as a “pain” to his superiors.
Check out the trailer after the jump. Starring Chris Pine, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Zoe Saldana, Peter Weller, John Cho, and Noel Clarke, Star Trek Into Darkness opens in 3D and IMAX on May 17th.

Just who is John Harrison? We likely won’t find out for sure until Star Trek Into Darkness officially opens, but director J.J. Abrams and star Benedict Cumberbatch did shed a little light on the character in a recent interview. While you won’t get any surprise identity reveals or confirmations of rumored characters, you will get some insight into what makes Harrison so damned dangerous.
Star Trek Into Darkness, opening May 17th in the States, stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and Alice Eve. Hit the jump for more.

Parade’s End, a new five-part miniseries adaptation by Tom Stoppard (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead) of Ford Maddox Ford’s novels, is everything viewers wanted from Downton Abbey‘s second season, but didn’t get. Whereas Downton Abbey shunted the First World War to the side (and created it as a place where one could just jaunt home every weekend or whenever one felt like it),Parade’s End uses it as a centerpiece dramatically and emotionally. The Edwardian period has regained a huge amount of popularity lately, mostly thanks to Downton, but even if you’re growing tired of costume dramas and staid portrayals of a bygone era of England, whose opulance is beyond anything we could imagine, don’t overlook Parade’s End. It will absolutely not let you down. Hit the jump for more about the adaptation, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), Rebecca Hall (The Town) and Adelaide Clemens (The Great Gatsby).

I think all Star Trek Into Darkness marketing should continue to revolve around “Benedict Cumberbatch is a badass, and you should fear him in all your waking hours and even some of your sleeping hours.” Paramount has now released a new motion poster that blends the narration from the teaser trailer with the teaser poster. It’s surprisingly effective considering that we’ve seen both parts of this motion poster before.
Hit the jump to check out the motion poster. The film also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Alice Eve, and Bruce Greenwood. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in 3D on May 15th. [WARNING: The motion poster auto-plays, so prepare your speakers accordingly lest you and your co-workers loudly hear Cumberbatch's threat.]

We’ve got a few smaller bits of Star Trek-related goodies to share this evening. Two new images from director J.J. Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness have landed online, giving us new looks at Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) as well as Kirk and the villainous John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch). Speaking of villainy, following numerous back and forth reports and rumors regarding the nature of Cumberbatch’s character, Into Darkness star Alice Eve recently spoke up to claim that Cumberbatch is “not playing Khan.”
Moreover, Simon Pegg also recently made a few headlines with some red carpet comments, as he spoke about the prospect of Abrams returning to direct Star Trek 3 in lieu of the filmmaker’s impending Star Wars: Episode VII duties. Hit the jump to read on.
