Tanner Hall played at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival but sat on the shelf of distributor Anchor Bay for almost two years. Now it’s getting released because of one person: lead actress Rooney Mara. Because Mara went and got herself cast in the juicy role of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, there’s at least a name that can somewhat elevate the film’s profile and audiences can go “Hey, isn’t that the chick from The Social Network?”. It’s not much but it’s more than Anchor Bay had last year.
But when you see the trailer, it’s not tough to see why the film sat on the shelf. It looks like Dead Poets Society with privileged teenage girls at a boarding school flick as opposed to privileged teenage guys at a boarding school. If you are going to see one girls boarding school drama this year, I recommend seeing Jordan Scott’s Cracks instead. Back to Tanner Hall, hit the jump to see the trailer. The film opens September 9th.

Actress Brie Larson (The United States of Tara) has landed the female lead in 21 Jump Street. Deadline reports that Larson will take over the role that Emma Stone previously was forced to vacate to make time in her schedule for The Amazing Spider-Man. Larson joins a cast that includes Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ice Cube. Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), the film is being written by Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World). Hill also worked on the story and described the update as “a John Hughes movie with ‘Bad Boys’ style action.” 21 Jump Street begins shooting in April and is slated for a March 16th, 2012 release.

So that new Scott Pilgrim vs. The World trailer that hit the net today was pretty badass, right? The 100,000 fans on Facebook must be happy that they helped get it online. But it’s pretty fast-paced and frenetic and so I’ve grabbed over 40 HD screencaps for your viewing pleasure. Little things I noticed going frame-by-frame include:
- The aspect ratio varies depending on the shot
- Scott has a sweet wardrobe of t-shirts
- We get a look at Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells and Ellen Wong as Knives Chau that we didn’t really see in the teaser trailer. We also get our first look at Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers and briefly glimpse Brie Larson as Envy Adams.
It’s just an amazing trailer and any of these shots would make a sweet desktop wallpaper. Hit the jump to check out the screencaps. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World hits theaters on August 13th.

Brie Larson has been acting since the age of six. After moving to Los Angeles, the Sacramento native soon landed a series regular role on the television series Raising Dad and segued into films, such as Sleepover and Hoot, all while nurturing a singing career.
Now, she can currently be seen as Kate Gregson, Tara’s (Toni Collette) teenaged daughter on the Showtime series United States of Tara, which returns for Season 2 on March 22nd. She will also be seen in the features Greenberg, due out March 19th, and the highly anticipated Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, from Edgar Wright.
In a recent interview, Brie Larson talked about exploring new aspects of her United States of Tara character, working alongside the accomplished Toni Collette and the musical jam sessions with her, Collette and John Corbett. The now 20-year-old also shared some insight on her role in Scott Pilgrim. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Earlier tonight, when Peter from Slashfilm and I were going to a ShoWest dinner, we noticed the first Scott Pilgrim vs. The World theater standee had been put on display outside the room. While Edgar Wright’s movie doesn’t get released until this August, this is the first real piece of promotional art that Universal has released, as the first poster I put online yesterday was confirmed as just a promo poster.
While some of you might not be familiar with the Scott Pilgrim comic by Bryan Lee O’Malley, trust me when i say, this is a movie you should really be looking forward to. Also, as the standee says, it’s an epic of epic epicness. Hit the jump to check out a bunch of photos of the standee.

Just because “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” won’t be at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, doesn’t mean they don’t love you.* It just means that they’re insanely busy trying to finish this film and so in lieu of coming to “Comic-Con”, they’re showing us some love with a new video blog, this time with the focus on enemy band “The Clash at Demon”, led by Scott’s ex Envy Adams (Brie Larson) with Lynette Guycott on drums (Tennesse Thomas), and vegan/evil-ex #3 Todd Ingram (Brandon Routh) on bass. This new blog explains the origin of the band and shows off all of their fake merch.
Hit the jump to check out the new video blog and remember that “Scott Pilgrim” creator Bryan Lee O’Malley WILL be at Comic-Con so you can bug him about the movie (although you should really bug him about the final volume of “Scott Pilgrim” and buy a bunch of SP merch).
