THE WALKING DEAD Episode Recap: “When the Dead Come Knocking”

It’s hard to believe, but there’s only one episode left of AMC’s The Walking Dead before the show goes on a mid-season hiatus until February. The break is going to be unbearable enough without what is sure to be one hell of a cliffhanger on next week’s episode. And while tonight’s episode was a set up of the coming conflict, it was done with style and substance; I only wish more shows were as solid week-to-week as The Walking Dead.

Starring Andrew Lincoln, David Morrissey, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Laurie Holden, Danai Gurira, Michael Rooker, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Scott Wilson, Dallas Roberts and Emily Kinney, AMC’s The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9.  Hit the jump for my review of “When the Dead Come Knocking.”

THE WALKING DEAD Episode Recap: “Hounded”

It’s amazing how much meat and potatoes AMC’s The Walking Dead has already crammed into the first five episodes of season three, but the best is yet to come.  We’ve seen two independent storylines develop so far this season and it looks as if tonight’s episode is going to be the catalyst to set those dramatic arcs on a collision course.  It remains to be seen whether Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his group or The Governor (David Morrissey) and his town will be left standing.

Starring Sarah Wayne Callies, Chandler Riggs, IronE Singleton, Melissa McBride, Laurie Holden, Danai Gurira, Michael Rooker, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Scott Wilson and Emily Kinney, AMC’s The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9.  Hit the jump for my review of “Hounded.”

THE WALKING DEAD Episode Recap: “Say the Word”

It’s hard to follow up the perfection that was last week’s episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead. With the kills, casualties, twists and turns of “Killer Within,” we expected a much more subdued, character-driven episode this week. That’s exactly what we got. I’ll save the spoilers for after the jump, but it’s safe to say that our survivors are busy dealing with the loss of some of their teammates and the addition of others. The contrast between Rick’s prison gang and the Governor’s quaint town of Woodbury is still present and strong, but the line is quickly blurring.

Starring Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Chandler Riggs, IronE Singleton, Melissa McBride, Laurie Holden, Danai Gurira, David Morrissey, Michael Rooker, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Scott Wilson and Emily Kinney, AMC’s The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9.  Hit the jump for my review of “Say the Word.”

I was completely blown away by how far the fourth episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead decided to go.  This was an unbelievable episode that showcased everything the fans have asked for and then some: dramatic character development, incredible tension across the board, plenty of gore to go around and more than its fair share of heartbreak. My only complaint with this brilliant episode is, being this early in the season, how can they hope to top it?

Starring Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Chandler Riggs, IronE Singleton, Melissa McBride, Laurie Holden, Danai Gurira, David Morrissey, Michael Rooker, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Scott Wilson and Emily Kinney, AMC’s The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9.  Hit the jump for my review of “Killer Within.”

Last week on The Walking Deadwe saw Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the crew deal with a life-threatening injury to one of their own, a prison swarming with Walkers and the arrival of a group of strangers that did not have the best of intentions.  We’ll have to wait at least another week to see how they’re doing because tonight’s episode is all about Andrea (Laurie Holden) and Michonne (Danai Gurira).  We also get a great introduction to season three’s most anticipated new character and a warm welcome for a character from the past.  Hit the jump to check out our recap of the latest episode of The Walking Dead.

The hit AMC drama series The Walking Dead has returned for a third season, with higher stakes, more threatening human villains and, of course, plenty of zombies. When things pick back up, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his fellow survivors continue to seek refuge, this time in an abandoned prison, but soon discover that there are greater forces to fear than just the walking dead. The struggle to survive has never been so perilous, especially considering that Rick’s wife, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies), is close to the due date of her pregnancy. Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, the show also stars Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Norman Reedus, Chandler Riggs, Lauren Cohan, Scott Wilson, IronE Singleton, Melissa McBride, Danai Gurira and David Morrissey.

At the show’s press day, actor David Morrissey (who plays The Governor, the charismatic leader of the seemingly utopian community of Woodbury) talked about whether or not his character is totally bad, how The Governor views Rick, that viewers will got a bit of the backstory for the town of Woodbury and its residents, that he had no idea how much attention the character would get, how the experience he’s had with the fan community from his association with Doctor Who helped prepare him for this, how nervous he was before joining the popular show, and what appealed to him about doing a cable series. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Tonight, the third season of The Walking Dead premieres.  The show seems poised to make it to the next level with fan-favorite storylines from the books finally being used for the TV series.  More importantly, the show now seems ready for these storylines by becoming a popular television series in its own right rather than coasting on name recognition and being the only zombie-horror show on television.  At yesterday’s New York Comic-Con panel for the show, it was all about the fans and letting them pick the brains of the cast and creators before the walkers come shambling back into our homes.

Two controversial characters are joining the cast of The Walking Dead, and they also happen to be two of most memorable from the comic book: Michonne and The Governor, played by Danai Gurira and David Morrissey, respectively.  Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd and showrunner Glen Mazzara said the time was right time to introduce Michonne and the Governor to the TV show.  “We wanted to open up the world,” Mazzara said. “The first two seasons is our group trying to find a safe haven.  When that farm is overrun, there are no more safe havens.  Now, the story is, ‘How do you live in this world?’  The Walkers are not going away.  There’s no help coming.  What do we do?  This is about different people trying different strategies to try to rebuild their lives.  That’s the story we’re telling in Season 3.”

Season 3 of The Walking Dead premieres on AMC on October 14th, as announced during the show’s Comic-Con panel.  Check out what Danai Gurira, David Morrissey and Laurie Holden (who plays Andrea) had to say about bringing these fan favorites to the show after the jump.

Though in previous years TV panels were relegated to Sunday in Hall H at Comic-Con, this year the television shows invaded the 6,000 seater on Friday in a big way.  One of the most anticipated panels was for AMC’s The Walking Dead, and Nerdist’s Chris Hardwick hilariously moderated the panel packed with the series’ stars as well as creator Robert Kirkman and showrunner Glen Mazzara.  Hit the jump to read my full recap.

New Poster for THE WALKING DEAD; Plus Showrunner Glen Mazzara Talks What to Expect in Season Three

Just ahead of the show’s Hall H debut next week at Comic-Con, a new poster for the upcoming third season of AMC’s The Walking Dead has landed online.  Moreover, showrunner Glen Mazzara recently talked a bit about what to expect when the zombie series returns:

“The entire landscape has fallen to zombies. The entire world has collapsed, the apocalypse has taken over, the zombies have taken over, there’s no safe place. And I think in the past our characters thought they could find some safe harbor, and now there’s just no good hiding place at all.”

We’ll likely have a much better idea of what season three will entail after next week’s panel, and you can rest assured we’ll have a full recap up on the site shortly afterwards.  The poster teases two major characters from the comics making their debuts this season: Michonne (played by Danai Gurira) and The Governor (David Morrissey).  Hit the jump to check out the poster and to see what Mazzara has to say about Morrissey’s work as the fan-favorite antagonist.

THE WALKING DEAD Showrunner Glen Mazzara Talks “The Governor,” the Prison, Michonne and More

There have been quite a few spoilery news tidbits concerning AMC’s The Walking Dead lately, but the one safe thing we can talk about right up front is the inclusion of the villainous Governor, played in the upcoming season by David Morrisey (The Reaping). As  he plays the main antagonist (of the non-shambling variety) to Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the gang, it’s probably a good thing to know where the third season of The Walking Dead is going to take us as far as the Governor is concerned.  Showrunner Glen Mazzara recently addressed that question while shooting on location.  I’ve done my best to keep this spoiler-free, but all bets are off after you hit the jump.

Summer is great and all, but it just delays the arrival of the next season of AMC’s epic zombie series, The Walking Dead (though the network is airing a marathon of the first two seasons this July).  A new character will join the show when it returns for its third season this fall, a villainous man known as The Governor.  We already brought you the first look of another new character, the katana-wielding Michonne (Danai Gurira).  And we also brought you the casting news when BAFTA-nominated British actor David Morrissey (State of Play) won the role of the Governor.  Now, we’re pleased to share the first look of Morrissey in Governor get-up with you!  For those of you unfamiliar with the character from the Robert Kirkman comic series, the Governor leads a small survivor settlement known as Woodbury; needless to say, he and Rick (Andrew Lincoln) don’t see eye to eye.  Hit the jump to get a look at the Governor.
