Three new international posters for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have been released.  While other posters put the emphasis on the number of villains that Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) will be facing, these posters cut out Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan) and put the emphasis squarely on Electro (Jamie Foxx), although you can still see Goblin on the Times Square TV screens.

Thousands of people gathered in Times Square last night to ring in 2014, and Sony Pictures has taken advantage of the holiday to introduce a new Times Square-centered trailer for director Marc Webb‘s upcoming sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  Introduced by Stan Lee himself, the new promo teases a rather “electrifying” action sequence from the film that takes place in the New York City epicenter and involves Jamie Foxx’s villainous character.  We saw a bit more of this sequence at Comic-Con last summer and it involves Electro taking great advantage of the plethora of electricity available in Times Square.

Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.  The film also stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Sally Field, Paul Giamatti, Chris Cooper, and Felicity JonesThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on May 2nd.

Two New Images from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Featuring Jamie Foxx as Electro

Even though The Amazing Spider-Man 2 now has at least three villains, I’m still assuming Electro (Jamie Foxx) is the lead threat ahead of Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan) and Rhino (Paul Giamatti).  Electro’s been featured the most heavily in the marketing, although that could be because Foxx is highly recognizable to mainstream audiences.  Two new images keep the focus on the superpowered baddie, who starts out as the feeble Max Dillon.  As we all know, Peter Parker is the only meek person who can get superpowers and not go power-mad.

Sony announced some big plans for its Spider-Man universe by way of Venom and Sinister Six films late last night, but first on the docket is director Marc Webb’s sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  A new international trailer has gone online, and it plays up the more comedic aspects of the film instead of focusing on the multitude of villains like the first domestic trailer.  The strongest aspect of Webb’s 2012 reboot was the smaller character moments, and I hope that’s explored further in this follow-up.

In case you haven’t gotten enough of your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man today with the new trailerour screengrabs, and the possibility of the post-credits scene being spoiled in the trailer, Sony has released more images from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on the official website.  The website also features background music that’s probably some of Hans Zimmer‘s score for the film.  Finally, we’ve been wondering who Colm Feore would be playing in the movie, and had speculated that it would be Spider-Slayer inventor Spencer Smythe.  However, the website says he’s playing “Donald Menken”, who was the personal assistant to Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper) in the comics.  There’s still no official word on who Felicity Jones and B.J. Novak are playing.

The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 just went online, and it’s pretty damn good.  It’s filled with some thrilling shots and some neat stuff for the fans.  For me, the biggest takeaway from the trailer is the image above—Vulture’s wings and Doctor Octopus’ tentacles.  It’s a short shot, but one that’s meant to be noticed (unlike another half-second shot in the trailer that provides new details on what happened to Peter’s parents).  We’ve also pulled some nice close-ups on villains Electro (Jamie Foxx), Rhino (Paul Giamatti), and Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan).

First Trailer for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 [Updated with Commentary from Marc Webb and Cast]

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for director Marc Webb’s sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  The clip emphasizes the burden on Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), as he explains in voiceover: “The more people I try to save, the more enemies I will make.  And it’s just a matter of time before I face those with more power than I can overcome.”  (See: Sinister Six.)  There’s just a bit of footage of Jamie Foxx as the new villain Electro, but the trailer closes with a cool chase/battle that promises a nice match between our agile hero and the seemingly teleportable villain.

Emma Stone, Dane DeHaanPaul GiamattiFelicity JonesChris Cooper, and Sally Field also star.  The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2, 2014.  Watch the trailer after the jump, click here to check out the screengrabs, click here to check out more images and to preview the score, and click here to find out whether the post-credits sequence has already been spoiled.

Hi-Res Version of the Triptych Banner for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

A few days ago, we posted a lo-res version of the banner for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  Sony has now released an official version, and there’s really nothing to hide.  Green Goblin is on there, and if you look behind Electro’s shoulder, you can see who’s playing him.  The Rhino armor is much clearer (I assume some people will be upset that it’s not Paul Giamatti in a Rhino costume, which would look silly, but also be pretty hilarious) and you can make out little details like the OsCorp and Daily Bugle logos.

First Look at THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Poster Possibly Shows Green Goblin and Rhino

by     Posted 139 days ago

The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will arrive online next week, but the first poster has been spotted in the wild.  We know for a fact that Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) will be fighting Electro (Jamie Foxx), but the rest of the plot has been speculation based on other characters in the movie.  For those who don’t know, Paul Giamatti is playing the baddie, Rhino, Chris Cooper is playing Norman Osborn (who becomes Green Goblin in the comics) and Dane DeHaan is playing Harry Osborn (who becomes Green Goblin after his father dies).  This new poster apparently shows not only Electro, but also Green Goblin on his glider and a giant, robot/vehicle that has a horn like a rhino.  If the first poster is going to show off these characters, I wonder how much they’ll feature in the first trailer.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  Hopefully, some higher-quality images will go online soon.  The film also stars Emma Stone, Felicity Jones, B.J. Novak, Colm Feore, and Sally FieldThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2, 2014.

WHITE HOUSE DOWN Blu-ray Review

This year saw two films attempt to take down the White House, with the most recent being disaster master Roland Emmerich’s White House Down.  Although he famously destroyed the entire Presidential residence in one blow in 1996′s Independence Day, Emmerich treats the title structure with much more reverence and care this time around.  (Don’t worry, he still beats the hell out of it.)  Equally bloodied and bruised are White House Down‘s heroic duo, played by Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx, who must take down the threat inside the Oval Office while rescuing the hostages trapped inside.  It’s one of Emmerich’s most entertaining films to date, and now that it’s available on Blu-ray, you can check it out for yourself in your very own home.  Hit the jump for my review.

Well this is a weird one.  We’ve got a trio of images that appear to be from Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, though I personally hope they’re all photoshopped.  As you can tell from the above image, Spidey apparently joins the brave men and women of the NYFD in the sequel, albeit for a brief time most likely.  Jamie Foxx also appears as the villainous Electro and he looks rather pissed off; water and electricity don’t mix, after all.  Lastly, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield appear troubled, mostly by Garfield’s hair.  Hit the jump to vet them for yourselves.

Filmmaker Oliver Stone has his sights set on tackling the life of another historical figure.  The Alexander and W. filmmaker is in early talks to direct a biopic about the life of Martin Luther King Jr., with his Any Given Sunday star Jamie Foxx in talks to star.  The project is set up at DreamWorks and is expected to have the support of King’s family, unlike director Paul Greengrass’ long-developing MLK film Memphis, which provides a three-dimensional warts-and-all look at Dr. King on his final days.  Hit the jump for more on this new project, including how it might affect Greengrass’ film.

Sony has released nine new images from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  A couple images show off more of the Rhino (Paul Giamatti), another provides us a look at Stan Lee, one has Dane DeHaan doing some filming, and so forth.  But the big one is a studio exterior painted with “Sinister 6″.  That’s about the biggest confirmation we’ve received thus far that The Amazing Spider-Man franchise is headed towards the supervillain super-group.

Comic-Con: Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, and Director Marc Webb Talk THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 and Introducing Electro

As Spider-Man swings into Comic-Con this weekend for a presentation in Hall H, we had a chance to talk to stars Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan and director Marc Webb about The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the sequel to the 2012 blockbuster which rebooted the series.  The film chronicles the continuing adventures of Peter Parker (Garfield) aka Spider-Man and introduces Electro (Foxx) as a formidable new opponent.

During the interview, they talked to the press about what inspired the incarnation of Electro, what it’s like bringing to life an iconic villain, what their experiences on the first film allowed them to bring to the sequel, how the relationship between Peter and Spider-Man has evolved, and why Spider-Man has always been a hero for the underdog regardless of race or sexual orientation.  Webb also discussed the challenge of directing a film with this hugeness of scale, what he learned from Alfonso Cuarón about surrendering to the material, and why he’s reluctant to reveal too much about the future direction of the franchise.  Check out what they had to say after the jump:
