If we’ve timed this correctly, this article will be going live right at (or just after) the moment the Mondo Gallery opens its doors on their eagerly-anticipated Stout & Taylor showcase. Last I heard, hundreds of people were standing in line downtown, waiting to get in to see what some of them have been waiting in love over 48hrs for. Anticipation’s running high, particularly for the work done by Australian artist Ken Taylor. After picking him as our “Artist of The Year, 2013”, what would he cook up for the biggest Mondo Gallery show yet? Find out after the jump, folks.

Are we in the middle of Mondo’s busiest week ever? It’s certainly starting to feel that way. For the past 24 hours, new announcements have dropped with clockwork regularity, revealing new prints from Limited Paper-favored artists like Martin Ansin, Ken Taylor, and JC Richards, and most of that is on top of the heavily-hyped, sure-to-be-awesome, in-all-likelihood-record-selling Stout & Taylor show opening at the Mondo Gallery on Friday evening. What do these prints look like, when can you get ‘em, and what can you expect in the way of coverage from Limited Paper over the next few days? Find out after the jump, folks.

Exactly one year ago, the scene in downtown Austin looked much the same as it did yesterday: overcast and just a little chilly, a downtown area over run with tens of thousands of film and music geeks (sporting all the neckbeards and fixed-gear bikes typical to such a group), and—just a few blocks away from downtown Austin proper, in the center of an otherwise-unexceptional strip of stores at 41st and Guadalupe—a crowd was gathering outside the Mondo Gallery.
Twelve blink-and-you’ll-miss-them months ago, the massive crowd had gathered to celebrate the opening of Mondo’s first-ever gallery space, turning the sci-fi themed show that followed into a jaw-droppingly huge success. Last night at the opening of Mondo and HBO’s Game of Thrones-themed showcase, the crowd was a little smaller, the crowd a little more subdued, and the purchases a little smaller…but the mood was celebratory, anticipation electrified every conversation, and the art on the walls was just as impressive as it’s always been. Find out more after the jump, folks.

It was about a year ago that Mondo first confirmed that Tyler Stout would be working on a new poster for Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive. This sent collectors into a frenzy of anticipation, a frenzy that only increased when it was also announced that Stout’s poster would serve as the cover at on a Mondo Vinyl release of the Drive soundtrack. We were told to expect both in June, and then…the waiting began. It seems that–between one thing and another—both projects hit a few snags on their way to that June, 2012 drop date, but the wait appears to be over: we know now what the poster looks like and when the soundtrack will drop (we’ve also got a pretty good idea when the poster will arrive). Wanna know what we know? Meet me after the jump, folks.

The Mondo guys have been killing it over the past few days, haven’t they? They kicked things off on Sunday night, dropping fourteen new posters during the Oscars, the last of which turned out to be Tyler Stout’s heavily-rumored/desired Django Unchained print. The following afternoon, Team Mondo kept the party going by announcing that they’d teamed with HBO for a Game of Thrones-themed showcase slated to hit the Mondo Gallery on March 8th. But then– just as everyone was absorbing that news—Mondo dropped an even bigger bombshell: there’d be a second show opening at the Mondo Gallery next month, as well.
Cue the dramatic music, folks, and then meet me after the jump: I’ll tell you what Mondo’s second show is all about, provide an update on the shipping of your Oscar Night purchases, and (last but not least) I’ll give ya a tiny bit of info regarding Stout’s Django Unchained APs. Click through! Now!

Last year, Mondo put together a fun little event for the 2012 Academy Awards: a few days prior to that Oscar Sunday, Mondo announced that a series of brand-new posters (all of which were based on that year’s Oscar-nominated films) would be dropping throughout the Academy’s broadcast. Everyone dug the idea, the whole thing went off without a hitch, and—most importantly—waiting on a drop gave all of us something to focus on whenever watching the Oscars became too much to bear.
And so, when the Mondo guys announced they’d be doing it all over again in 2013, we were pumped (as were many of you). But once that excitement died down, we were left wondering which of 2012’s Oscar-nominated films would get the Mondo treatment…and which of the rumors we’d been hearing would turn out to be true. Answers to those questions (and many more) await you after the jump, folks.

During the Academy Awards broadcast last year, the good folks at Mondo dropped a few gorgeous prints from films that were nominated. They’re doing the same thing this year, and today they’ve unveiled the first three posters in their second annual Oscar series: Laurent Durieux’s The Master, Olly Moss’ Les Miserables, and DKNG’s ParaNorman. All three posters are unsurprisingly excellent, but I’m absolutely mesmerized by Durieux’s entrancing print for The Master. It’s a stunning piece of work, and I’m sure many of you will be angling to nab a copy during Sunday’s ceremony.
Mondo says that many more posters will be unveiled during the awards show broadcast, when said prints will also go on sale. Hit the jump to preview these first three prints, and start preparing to do some very fast typing on Sunday night. As always, follow @MondoNews for the on-sale announcements.

Last weekend, the Mondo crew headed to Houston, Texas for a very special screening of Kinji Fukasaku’s 2000 masterpiece, Battle Royale. The screening (which initially seemed to be the latest Mondo Mystery Movie, but…er, wasn’t) was apparently quite the success: everyone we spoke with who attended had a grand old time, and all involved seemed very happy with the Bryan Lee O’Malley/Kevin Tong screenprint that resulted from the event. But what about everyone else, all the people who couldn’t be in Houston for Mondo’s latest screening/poster party? Good news awaits 425 of those people after the jump!

For awhile now, Mondo’s been keen to get into the vinyl game. Over the past year, they released soundtracks for The Beyond and The Deadly Spawn, and last March they announced that a vinyl version of the glorious Drive soundtrack (overseen by Cliff Martinez) was in the cards (we expect that one any minute now). Well, the time’s come for their latest vinyl release, this time a soundtrack for the classic 80’s haunted-house flick Poltergeist. Featuring new artwork from the Australian super-duo known as We Buy Your Kids, you’ll be free to pick up your very own copy tomorrow afternoon. See pictures and learn more after the jump, folks.

Last week a post on the Alamo Drafthouse blog revealed that the Mondo crew would be hosting a special screening at a Houston-area Drafthouse on February 16th. The setup was familiar to anyone who’s ever attended a Mondo Mystery Movie: buy a ticket, show up, find out what movie you’re there to see, watch said movie, and then collect a limited-edition screenprint based on that film on your way out the door. Based on this description, many believed that next weekend’s screening actually was the next Mondo Mystery Movie.
Turns out, it’s not! On Feb. 16th Mondo will screen Battle Royale in Houston, and every ticket sold includes a special poster created by the dynamic duo of Kevin Tong and Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. Wanna know everything else we know at the moment? Meet me after the jump, folks.

Before Mondo opened up the doors on In Progress (its first Mondo Gallery show of 2013), no one wondered about which movies would be covered by the show’s artists: every piece of In Progress was based on previously-released Mondo works, so there’d be no surprises (or so we thought). And no one was wondering about the quality of the artists themselves, because any lineup that includes Martin Ansin, Ken Taylor, Laurent Durieux, Jock, Jay Ryan, and Aaron Horkey is a lineup worth paying attention to.
Indeed, In Progress sounded awesome. But there was one lingering question that seemed to be on everyone’s mind: how much were these pieces going to cost? Find out the answer to that question—and any other lingering questions you might have—after the jump.
Update: We’ve added some pictures from the show after the videos.

It’s been mysteriously quiet in Poster World over the past week. Indeed, it seems like many collectors are holding their breath in anticipation of…something…doesn’t it? Rumors are circulating and strange bits of gossip are swirling around, all of them indicating that 2013’s first blockbuster print is on the verge of being dropped…but when?
Today’s announcement from the Mondo crew tells us they’ve got two snazzy-looking prints dropping this week, but neither print seems to fit the rumors we’ve heard. That shouldn’t matter, though: we may have to wait a little longer for something that fits the “blockbuster” description, but in the meantime this Thursday’s Lord of The Rings prints from Mike Sutfin and Paolo Rivera will do nicely. Read all about ‘em after the jump, folks.

Earlier today, the word started spreading, and soon enough we were all paying attention: “sometime soon”, a Mondo-related announcement was going to drop via our friends over at Ain’t It Cool News, and…well, and nothing: that was pretty much all we got by way of a hint. Mercifully, the wait for AICN’s announcement didn’t last long, and now we all know what the big secret was: this week, Mondo will drop a Steven Spielberg double-header—a poster based on Jaws (by Laurent Durieux) and another based on E.T. The Extraterrestrial (by Mike Mitchell).
Wanna see these new prints, find out where they’re dropping, when, and what each one’s gonna cost ya? Meet me on the other side, folks.
