In MTV’s new re-imagining of Teen Wolf, from show creator/executive producer Jeff Davis and director/co-executive producer Russell Mulcahy, takes the larger story of the transformation that every teenager goes through as they come of age and figure out who they are, and tells it with the added ingredient of werewolves. With a forbidden love story and snarling monsters, the drama follows newly bitten werewolf Scott McCall (Tyler Posey). Having been turned by Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) after his best friend Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) encourages him to go out into the woods at night in search for a dead body, Scott becomes faster and stronger, making him the arch rival of the lacrosse team’s star Jackson Whittemore (Colton Haynes) and bringing him to the attention of popular girl Lydia Martin (Holland Roden). And, when mysterious new girl Allison Argent (Crystal Reed) shows up in town, Scott learns a secret about her family that could put an end to their romance before it really even gets started.

At the show’s press day, co-stars Tyler Hoechlin, Colton Haynes and Holland Roden talked to Collider for this exclusive interview about how they got involved with the series, getting to collaborate on the development of their characters, what this take on werewolves is, and how they evolved over the course of Season 1. MTV Not Renewing SKINS for Second Season

Though the network made a valiant effort to capture the same magic that made the British import series Skins a success here in the United States, today Deadline reports  MTV has decided that it will not renew the steamy teen drama series for another season. The first season, which was met with some controversy and accusations of child pornography back in January, ended roughly three months ago, and with no word on another season since then, the grave seemed to have been dug for the series. MTV says, “Skins is a global television phenomenon that, unfortunately, didn’t connect with a US audience as much as we had hoped. We admire the work that the series’ creator Bryan Elsley did in adapting the show for MTV, and appreciate the core audience that embraced it.” If anyone liked this series, but is unfamiliar with the original British series, I’d recommend checking that out as a much better substitute.

The first footage from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 has been released, and it’s epically epic in its epicness. Okay, so it’s not. But MTV has decided to play big choir-led action music over cut shots of a wedding. Granted, it’s Bella and Edward and I’m sure fans of the books will enjoy this much more than I, but it still feels more than a little overblown. Nevertheless, stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are set to present the entire sneak peek footage at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, which airs on Sunday June 5th. Hit the jump to watch a sneak peek for the sneak peek. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 hits theaters on November 8th.

Producer David Katzenberg Talks THE HARD TIMES OF RJ BERGER Season 2

The scripted comedy The Hard Times of RJ Berger, from co-creators/executive producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, is currently in its second season on MTV. It’s funnier, more ambitious, raunchier and even more heartfelt, as the anatomically gifted teenager, RJ Berger (Paul Iacono), not only has to navigate the horrors of high school, but he also has to deal with the separation of his parents. And, if things aren’t already hard enough for RJ, who finds himself caught between the girl of his dreams (Amber Lancaster) and the girl he lost his virginity to (Kara Taitz), he will meet an older woman who poses a whole new set of challenges.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, David Katzenberg talked about wanting to outdo themselves for Season 2, writing to their strengths this time around, balancing the raunchiness of the series with the heart, and their hopes for a Season 3. He also talked about overcoming the expectations of his family name, branching out to direct episodes of another show for MTV, establishing his production company, KatzSmith, with business partner Seth Grahame-Smith, and wanting to make a name for themselves in feature films as well as television. After making a splash at Sundance, and tickling audiences curiosity, Variety says the documentary Catfish will get a reality show treatment courtesy of MTV. Apparently the creative team from the film itself will be involved with the project. The original film follow NYC photographer Nev Schulman, who travels to Michigan to meet a woman he met on Facebook. But because we don’t want to spoil the movie and reveal the ending, if you want to know what the reality series would be about, you can find out after the jump.

MTV President Van Toffler Talks Return of BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD

by     Posted: February 16th, 2011 at 4:10 pm

Earlier this month, we brought you the terrific news that Beavis and Butt-Head would be making its triumphant return to television this summer. Creator Mike Judge had been working on writing new episodes of the show last summer, and now we have some details on what to expect. MTV President Van Toffler recently broke his silence on the subject in an interview with Rolling Stone:

“They’ll be self-contained segments with the boys in different situations like they used to be. But this time around, they’ll watch Jersey Shore, UFC matches and user-generated videos from YouTube, in addition to music videos.”

In a sea of Teen Mom reruns and “reality” shows about pregnant kids, Beavis and Butt-Head should prove to be a refreshing jolt of cynicism and inappropriate humor to MTV’s schedule. Hit the jump for more, including how the return of Beavis and Butt-Head came to pass and how new media will affect the distribution of new B&B episodes.

BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD Officially Returning to MTV This Year

by     Posted: February 2nd, 2011 at 4:18 pm

Big, big news: there may actually be a reason to watch MTV after all. Last we heard, creator Mike Judge was busy outlining 30 new episodes of his classic TV show Beavis and Butt-Head. At the time, it was unknown when or even if those episodes would see the light of day, but Judge had faith. Well, it looks like all that early work paid off because MTV has officially confirmed that Beavis and Butt-Head will be returning to the network later this year! The show premiered in 1993 and maintained a wildly successful run through 1997, spawning numerous videos, DVDs, and one feature-length film. Behind all of this madness was creator/voice artist/genius Mike Judge (Office Space).

MTV’s report doesn’t give any information other than the fact that the show will air “this summer.” When we heard that Judge was working on 30 new episodes of the show, it was confirmed that they would maintain the show’s traditional “ghetto-tech” animation style. The two will also be featured doing what they do best, mocking contemporary music videos (ironic, considering the re-branding of MTV has all but exiled actual music videos on the channel). Hit the jump for more.

On the controversial MTV television series Skins, actress Sofia Black-D’Elia plays Tea, the 16-year-old, openly gay cheerleader who is as big a mystery to herself as she is everyone else. This wild card is as beautiful and confident as they come on the surface, but also has the same self-doubt that is normal for any teenager her age.

During a recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, Sofia Black-D’Elia talked about being a fan of the BBC series that Skins was adapted from, the honor of working with the original show’s creator, bonding with her co-stars, how she loves Tea’s honesty, dealing with the criticism that the show has already received, and being a role model for other teens looking to be confident in their own sexuality. Created by father and son team Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain, Skins is the ground-breaking UK series, featuring Nicholas Hoult and Dev Patel, about a group of friends who navigate complex relationships and the difficulties of daily life in their formative years. It’s raw and edgy, and depicts the sex and drugs that is present in the lives of the teenagers that it follows. Now, Elsley is bringing his hit series across the seas, as the writer/executive producer on the adapted version that will start airing on MTV in January 2011.

During an exclusive interview with Collider, newcomers Jesse Carere, Daniel Flaherty, Ron Mustafaa and Britne Oldford talked about the chemistry between this ensemble cast, keeping things as true to the teenage experience as possible, and maintaining a level of edginess that the original series is known for. First Trailer for US Adaptation of Sexy British Teen Series SKINS

In case you weren’t aware, MTV is making a big jump into scripted TV with their remake of the hit British teen series Skins. Today the first trailer for the series has cropped up online, and it looks to deliver almost a carbon copy of the original British series, not unlike NBC’s first season attempt at adapting Ricky Gervais’ The Office. The show will likely need sometime to grow into its own skin (pun intended), but if you’re a fan of all the issues of teenage life including sex, drugs, eating disorders and more, then this show is for you. We’ve included the trailer after the jump, and even though it’s not hardcore porn or anything like that, I’d say that it’s probably NSFW.

The new MTV original series Teen Wolf, from Criminal Minds creator Jeff Davis, is a darker more dramatic version of the cult classic 80′s film, starring Michael J. Fox. The reboot combines friendship and love in the context of horror and high school, over 12 one-hour episodes, shooting in Atlanta, Georgia, that will air in 2011.

The story follows the life of often unnoticed lacrosse player Scott McCall (Tyler Posey), who wishes he could just be popular. One night, when his best friend Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) convinces him to go out into the woods to join a police search for a dead body, Scott encounters a creature in the darkness and narrowly escapes an attack with a vicious bite in his side. When strange things start to happen, and Scott realizes that he has new powers and abilities, he quickly learns that his life will never be the same.

During this exclusive interview with Collider, co-stars Tyler Posey and Crystal Reed, who plays the mysterious new girl in town, talked about how much they identify with their characters, working with filmmaker Russell Mulcahy (Resident Evil: Extinction, Highlander) on the pilot, and that they think people will be surprised with how much edgier this version of the Teen Wolf story is. Crystal also discussed the experience of making the sci-fi feature Skyline, which started out as an independent film that is now being distributed by Universal Pictures on November 12th. BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD to Appear in JACKASS 3D

by     Posted: October 11th, 2010 at 2:06 pm

In July, we reported the great news that Mike Judge was outlining 30 new episodes of his breakthrough show, Beavis and Butt-Head.  However, we’re going to be seeing the idiot duo a lot sooner as /Film reports that the pair make an appearance in Jackass 3D, which opens this weekend.  The two will appear in a special animated introduction and talk about 3D.  But you don’t need to worry about a CGI Beavis and Butt-Head as “Everything is said to look exactly as it has in the previous 2D animated television series and movie, but with the 3D applied with different panes of depth.”  So if you want to see MTV’s original jackasses in 3D, then pick up a ticket to Jackass 3D this weekend.

Mike Judge Outlining 30 New Episodes of BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD

by     Posted: July 7th, 2010 at 1:09 pm

During the days of my childhood, there were two shows that were surrounded by controversy as they apparently set a bad example for the world’s precious children. They were South Park and Beavis and Butt-Head. While South Park certainly pushed the envelope a lot further, especially in the past few years, Beavis and Butt-Head was the first crude cartoon on the scene as it used two rock-loving idiots to guide us through subversive and hilarious satire and social commentary. Now it looks like series creator and writer (not to mention the voice behind the titular idiots) Mike Judge is looking to have his dynamic duo make a comeback as REVIEWniverse has discovered he is currently outlining 30 brand new episodes of the series. More details after the jump!
