20th Century Fox has released new behind-the-scenes images from their upcoming 2014 tentpoles Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and X-Men: Days of Future Past.  The Apes image is just Andy Serkis (who plays Caesar) doing his motion-capture thing.  The real magic will come with the side-by-side comparisons of how his performance aligns with the finished visual effects.  It’s exciting to think that with the advancements in technology, this should look even better than Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  As for X-Men, I no longer care about time-travel or sentinels after looking at this photo. I just want a Magneto/Wolverine 70s buddy-cop TV series.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  X-Men: Days of Future Past opens in 3D on May 23rd and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opens in 3D on July 18th.

The first image has been released from Gilles Paquet-Brenner‘s adaptation of Gillian Flynn‘s best-selling novel Dark Places.  The film stars Charlize Theron as Libby Day, a woman who, at the age of 7, survives the massacre of her family and testifies against her brother as the murderer.  Years later, when confronted by a group obsessed with solving notorious crimes, Libby is forced to confront the truth about what she saw—or didn’t see.  Producer and co-financier Exclusive Media shopped the film around the American Film Market and has completed all major sales.

Hit the jump to check out the image.  The outstanding cast also includes Nicholas Hoult, Chloë Grace Moretz, Christina Hendricks, and Drea de Matteo.  If Dark Places is released in 2014, it will join the other high-profile adaptation of a Gillian Flynn novel—David Fincher‘s Gone Girl, which opens on October 3rd.

Following the excellent trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past, two new images have been released for Bryan Singer’s upcoming sequel.  he story finds Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) having his consciousness sent back to 1973 in order to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.  One of the images shows us Beast (Nicholas Hoult) giving Magneto (Michael Fassbender) a good thrashing, but the other one looks like Magneto has boobs.  Not the best angle.

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for director Bryan Singer‘s sequel/prequel X-Men: Days of Future Past.  The story finds Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) having his consciousness sent back to 1973 in order to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.  This trailer is extremely similar to the footage they showed at Comic-Con this summer (right down to the Hans Zimmer score), which sent Hall H into a frenzy.  It does an excellent job of conveying the darker tone of the film as well as teasing the spectacle that will be on display, and I really can’t wait to see more.

Following yesterday’s teaser for the first trailer, 20th Century Fox has now released twelve new images from Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Days of Future Past.  In the upcoming sequel/prequel, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) has his consciousness sent back to 1973 to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.  These images don’t give anything away, but I quite like them, especially the one where Xavier and Magneto are continuing to play chess even though their friendship has fractured.  It’s an obvious symbol, but still a nice one considering it’s the constant in their relationship.  And if that doesn’t do anything for you, there’s an image of Jennifer Lawrence being adorable on set.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Omar Sy, and Halle BerryX-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23, 2014.

Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult Eyed for Drake Doremus’ Sci-Fi Pic EQUALS; Will Smith Circling SELLING TIME

Like Crazy writer/director Drake Doremus has developed a reputation for crafting intimate and engrossing relationship dramas using his signature improvisational style, and for his next project the filmmaker plans to apply his talents to the sci-fi genre.  I spoke with Doremus earlier this year at Sundance where he premiered his excellent new drama Breathe In, and the director noted that he planned on venturing “into the futuristic, semi sci-fi love story land,” but utilizing his improvisational style.  Now Deadline reports that Doremus is courting Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult to star in the pic, titled Equals, for an early 2014 production start date.

Plot details regarding Equals are unknown at this point, but Moon scribe Nathan Parker penned the screenplay.  Doremus’ shooting style involves improvising nearly every scene, so if Hoult and Stewart sign on, they’ll have a hefty job ahead of them.  Hit the jump for news concerning Will Smith starring in a supernatural thriller.

It’s a good day to be a fan of superhero movies.  We just got the first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and now Bryan Singer has released the first footage from X-Men: Days of Future Past. Normally, I’m sour about teasers for trailers, but I’m so excited for people to a glimpse of what was shown at Comic-Con that I’ll make an exception.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD to Undergo Three Weeks of Additional Shooting

by     Posted 232 days ago

While there are plenty of exciting films opening over the next few months, one highly anticipated pic that’s already in the can is conspicuously absent.  After years of starts and stops—including a massive yearlong postponement due to torrential rains in the planned filming location—director George Miller’s long-promised Mad Max: Fury Road finally underwent principal photography in the summer of 2012.  However, in the ensuing time we have yet to see even an official image from the pic.  While some were hopeful that Miller would complete Fury Road in time to make a surprise late 2013 release, it became clear that that would not be the case.

Now we may have a bit of a reason for the delay, as Miller is poised to go back and do three weeks of additional shooting on the pic with his main cast.  Hit the jump for more.

There have been plenty of photos from the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past, but now an official image has been released.  And that image is…a hallway.  More specifically, it’s a hallway containing Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Beast in human-form (Nicholas Hoult), and Professor X (James McAvoy).  It’s not the most riveting of images (we kind of saw it already in a set photo from director Bryan Singer), but the effects are a long way from finished, so right now, you’ve got characters walking down a hallway.  Enjoy.

By now you probably know that almost the entire cast of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past surprised Comic-Con attendees today.  Just prior to their Hall H appearance, the cast members participated in what might be a Guinness World Record for press conferences.  Attending were director Bryan Singer, writer Simon Kinberg, producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker, plus cast members Evan Peters, Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page and Omar Sy.  It was an amazing once-in-a-lifetime event to witness all of that talent on one stage, although fans will be privy to the experience once X-Men: Days of Future Past hits screens May 23, 2014.  Hit the jump for highlights from the press conference.

Out in the Countryside in a Yet Another X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Set Photo

Director Bryan Singer continues to tweet out set photos that are just interesting enough to warrant mentioning, and today he has another.  “The countryside at last,” Singer says in his tweet, and if you look in the distant background, you can see Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) chilling out.  This isn’t the first time we’ve seen them together, and I’m particularly intrigued by Beast.  In the comics, he can’t revert back to his human form, which provides the dichotomy of a super-intelligent mutant that looks like a primal creature…who is blue.  I’m curious to see how the script handles the human look of the character, and if this is a Hulk-type situation where he goes back and forth since we’ve also seen Hoult in beastly-form.

Hit the jump to check out the set photo.  The film also stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Peter Dinklage, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, and Halle Berry.  X-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23, 2014.

New Images from the Set of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Reveal Nicholas Hoult’s Redesigned Beast Makeup

by     Posted 321 days ago

One of the earliest official set images that director Bryan Singer revealed over the course of production on X-Men: Days of Future Past was a peek at some concept art for the character of Beast, played by Nicholas Hoult.  While we saw Hoult go full beast-mode in X-Men: First Class, the concept art hinted at a bit of a redesign for the character in Days of Future Past.  Sure enough, a batch of unofficial set photos for DOFP reveal that the character does indeed look fairly different from what we saw in the first film, as we get a look at Hoult in his brand new Beast makeup.  Moreover, the images reveal a pretty intense-looking throwdown between Beast and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto.

Hit the jump to take a look at the images.  X-Men: Days of Future Past opens on July 18, 2014.

Director Bryan Singer has shared a new image from the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past, and it’s a perfect encapsulation of the mix of new and familiar that the film’s story involves.  We see Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Nicholas Hoult’s Beast standing side-by-side in Professor X’s familiar underground hallway, but they’re decked out in 1970s clothes given that the year is 1973.  It’s a fantastic tease for fans, as we see that Hoult’s Dr. Hank McCoy has somehow found a way to suppress his Beastly appearance.  Interesting…
