While Jesse Eisenberg has played all sorts of people and characters like Mark Zukerberg, a zombie hunter, an orthodox Jew, a pizza delivery guy, and tons of troubled kids, in Now You See Me, Eisenberg takes on a new challenge: magician.  And based on what I’ve seen and learned about the film, he’s going to deliver another great performance.

While on set last year, I got to participate in a group interview with Eisenberg.  He talked about why he wanted to be in the project, reuniting with Woody Harrelson, what it’s been like learning the tricks, working with director Louis Leterrier, script changes, and a lot more.  Hit the jump for what he had to say.

In director Louis Leterrier‘s Now You See Me, Mark Ruffalo plays an FBI agent trying to hunt down and capture a group of magicians who pull off bank heists during their death-defying acts.  However, while Ruffalo plays a tough guy on screen, he’s anything but that in real life.  In fact, in the few times I’ve gotten to speak with him, he’s always making people laugh and trying to have fun.

About a year ago, I got to participate in a group interview with Ruffalo on the set of Now You See Me when the film was shooting in New York.  He talked about why he wanted to be involved, working with Leterrier, filming on location in New Orleans and NYC, magicians, what kinds of scripts is he drawn to, and a lot more.  Hit the jump for what he had to say.

Last year on the set of director Louis Leterrier‘s Now You See Me, Isla Fischer, who plays an escapologist, was asked why she wanted to do the movie.  She said:

“I read the script and I loved it.  It just had elements of an interesting movie, a good story, interesting people were attached and so many weird contrasting elements — romance, action, a heist… It just seemed like a mixture of a bunch of different movies, like a lovechild of Clash of the Titans meets Ocean’s Twelve.”

Fisher also talked about her character, her chemistry with the cast, performing the tricks, the tone of the film, how the script changed with once the cast was set, and more.  In addition, she since had just wrapped on The Great Gatsby, we also talked about that film and her other future projects.  Hit the jump for more.

Last year on the set of Now You See Me, director Louis Leterrier talked about his reasons for wanting to make the film:

“I was looking for a great script. I wanted a great script with a great story, some great twist, some great characters. I was looking for it, looking for it, looking for it, and then I found this amazing script. So I was like, “This is it, this is for me.” And what I love about this script is that it’s very respectful of the art of magic but also gives you a little bit of a peek behind the curtain, the Wizard of Oz curtain, a little bit. Not too much, but that’s what I want. So it really is a love letter to magic.”

In addition, he compared the tone to Sneakers and Oceans 11, why he wanted to use practical effects and not CG, the importance of having the actors do their own tricks, why they shot on location in New Orleans, New York and Las Vegas, which tricks were the most difficult, how the project changed along the way, and so much more.

Summit Entertainment has released a new trailer for Now You See Me.  The story centers on a group of magicians who pull off bank heists during their death-defying acts, and the FBI squad tasked with catching them.  It appears that Morgan Freeman is tasked with being the expository character as he spends most of this new trailer explaining things, but we do get a closer look at the technical side of the group’s magic tricks in this clip.  The premise is admittedly a bit outlandish, but director Louis Letterier (The Incredible Hulk) has put together a great cast and this trailer hammers home the promise that Now You See Me should be a lot of fun.

• Now You See Me – The debut poster for Louis Letterier’s magic-centered crime thriller puts the impressive ensemble cast front and center.  The film stars Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Woody Harrelson and opens on May 31st.

• Red 2 – The Dean Parisot-directed sequel centering on ex-operatives played by Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich will now open two weeks earlier on July 19th.
• Now You See Me – Louis Letterier’s magical heist film starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Woody Harrelson and Isla Fisher will now open a week earlier on May 31st.
• The Butler – Lee Daniels’ biopic of long-time White House butler Cecil Gaines, played by Forest Whitaker, will open October 18th.

Just yesterday the first trailer for the magician-centered pic Now You See Me was released online, and now a large batch of images from the film have surfaced.  The movie follows an FBI squad on the heels of a team of bank-robbing magicians who share their profits with the audience.  Directed by Louis Letterier (Clash of the Titans), the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Melanie Laurent, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine.  The trailer played a bit like a “fun” version of The Prestige with a dash of Ocean’s Eleven thrown in for good measure, and I’m interested to see what the full has in store.

The first trailer for Now You See Me has been released.  The film follows an FBI squad on the heels of a team of bank-robbing magicians who share their profits with the audience.  Sounds like Ocean’s Eleven with a magical twist, right? Well, the trailer shows that that’s certainly the case, but the “magic” tricks rely heavily on spectacle and computerized effects, throwing practicality right out the window. So it appears to be more of an action adventure flick with magical elements than any kind of head-scratcher; still could be fun though!

• Now You See Me, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, moves back again from March 15th to June 7th, 2013.
• The Big Wedding, featuring Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl and Robin Williams, gets a six month push from October 26 of this year to April 26th, 2013.
• Pitch Perfect, with Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow  and Christopher Mintz-Plasse opens a week earlier than scheduled, now on September 28th of this year.

Why Stop Now? tells the bittersweet story of Eli Smith (Jesse Eisenberg), a piano prodigy who, on the day of his audition for a prestigious music program, plans to enter his loving mother (Melissa Leo) into rehab for drug addiction.  But, things don’t quite work out as planned and Eli soon finds himself having to work with her drug dealer Sprinkles (Tracy Morgan) while trying to make his own dream come true.

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Jesse Eisenberg talked about why he was interested in being a part of Why Stop Now?, what made his character so relatable, preparing to do the piano playing himself, getting to work so closely with Melissa Leo, and what surprised him about Tracy Morgan, as a dramatic actor.  He also talked about what he’s looking forward to with the animated sequel Rio 2, working with Richard Ayoade on The Double (a comedy about a man who is driven insane by the appearance of his doppleganger), creating the unique world of Now You See Me (a thriller about FBI agents tracking a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances), getting ready to shoot Night Moves (in which he’ll play an eco-terrorist), and being mistaken for Mark Zuckerberg at the Olympics.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

The story follows Sam (Chris Pine), a twenty-something guy who learns that his father has suddenly died, leaving behind a secret 30-year-old daughter (Elizabeth Banks) that Sam never knew about, and he is forced to re-examine his own life and re-think everything he thought he knew about his family.

At the film’s press day, Alex Kurtzman talked to Collider about deciding to share such a personal story with the world, the advantages and disadvantages in writing something without a set deadline, what made him decide to direct, and how important the casting was for the tone of the movie.  He also talked about the emotional experience of returning to the Enterprise for the Star Trek sequel, what made he and business partner Roberto Orci want to sign on to write the sequel for The Amazing Spider-Man, how they just wrapped Ender’s Game (which takes place 70 years after a horrific alien war) and Now You See Me (about FBI agents who track a team of illusionists that pull off bank heists during their performances) as producers, and how excited they are to be rebooting Van Helsing and The Mummy.
