Yesterday, we reported that toymaker NECA was planning to release action figures based on Aliens as well as a replica of the gravity gun from Half-Life.  Now they have even more good stuff on the ways: Django Unchained dolls!  Yes, you can play in your very own Big House with dolls for Django (Jamie Foxx), Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), Butch (James Remar), Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson), and Broomhilda (Kerry Washington).  While NECA are calling these “action figures”, these toys are dolls.  Dolls have cloth clothing.  The only thing missing is a pull string that makes the dolls utter racial epithets.

The first teaser trailer and poster for DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming racing movie Turbo have been released.  The story centers on a snail who, after miraculously attaining the power of super-speed, decides to fulfill his dream of racing in the Indy 500.  I got a kick out of the fact that The Chromatics’ “Tick of the Clock,” which was memorably used in last year’s decidedly violent Drive, opens this trailer, followed by another appropriately titled song from Cake.  This is very much a teaser trailer so we don’t see much by way of plot, but the brief bit of racing sequences look pretty impressive and Ryan Reynolds does a fine job with the snail’s comedy.

Anne Hathaway and Samuel L. Jackson are in a competition of sorts since they both have movies coming out on Christmas Day—Les Miserables and Django Unchained, respectively.  In a new Funny or Die video, the two actors decide to have a straight-up competition with a “Sad Off” in order to decide whose movie is more depressing.  Having seen both films, Les Miserables is easily more depressing and Django Unchained is a borderline comedy (there’s one scene that could have been in Blazing Saddles).  But really, their war of words boils down to which is worse: slavery or prostitution.  Despite the dark subject matter, the sketch is pretty damn hilarious, especially since Jackson builds the best gingerbread house ever.

I’m tired of these mothafuckin’ reboots of these mothafuckin’ animes! Well, not really. But when Samuel L. Jackson and David R. Ellis (the director of Snakes on a Plane) are reportedly reuniting on a project, it’s a known fact that you have to work that line in somewhere. Jackson is now set to star in Ellis’ live-action adaptation of the 1998 Japanese anime, Kite. The project centers on a young girl whose parents are murdered in a gruesome double homicide and is taken in by two corrupt detectives who train her as an assassin. Hit the jump for more.

It’s only been three years since writer/director Quentin Tarantino’s last masterwork hit screens, but the wait for his Inglourious Basterds follow-up has nevertheless felt much longer.  At last Django Unchained is set to be unleashed across the country over the upcoming Christmas holiday, but the first screenings of the film took place this past weekend.  Tarantino has yet to make an outright bad movie (the quality of Death Proof may or may not be a point of contention), so hopes have been high for the Western Django Unchained.  Full reviews are still under embargo, but a few well-respected professionals provided some quick reactions on Twitter following the first screenings, and it appears that QT has delivered yet another winner with an especially keen sense of humor.  Moreover, the runtime has been revealed to be a lengthy 2 hours and 40 minutes. Iron Man 3 has become so exclusive that even Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) isn’t allowed in. The “No Avengers Allowed” production directed by Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) is locked down as a Tony Stark-centric experience after the fallout of the events in The Avengers. While Robert Downey Jr. won’t have to share any screen time with his heroic teammates this time around, you can be sure to expect some sort of end credits tag linking it to Thor 2, aka Thor: The Dark World. Surprisingly, Jackson may not appear in that film either, but will next play Fury in Captain America 2, aka Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Hit the jump to see what Jackson had to say. 

The final trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained has landed and it’s punctuated with gun shots and one-liners. There’s not much here you haven’t seen already but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. New 60-second TV spots have been released for Django Unchained.  For those unfamiliar with the film, Jamie Foxx stars as the titular Django, an escaped slave who goes to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from sadistic plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) by teaming up with bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz).  These TV spots are in line with all the other ads we’ve seen, and it looks like The Weinstein Company is just about done showing off new footage, which is fine by me.  While other potential Oscar-contenders like Zero Dark Thirty and Les Miserables have already begun to build buzz, Django still remains under wraps, although with yearly awards from critics’ groups closing in, the silence will break soon enough.

We just recently learned that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows director David Yates had finally settled on Warner Bros.’ Tarzan adaptation as his post-Potter project, and now it appears that things are moving rather quickly on the film.  At the time, we heard that Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) were in the running for the titular lead role, with WB also interested in Tom Hardy should the actor spark to the idea.  Now it appears that a frontrunner has emerged in the form of the 6’4″ Swede Skarsgard.  Hit the jump for more.

The website for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Django Unchained has recently been relaunched, and subsequently a batch of new goodies have also been released.  Included in the grab bag is a handful of character-centered wallpapers and a new 60-second preview that features a few flashes of new footage.  The images give us new looks at the cast (Walton Goggins!) and serve to only increase some already high anticipation for the pic.  Moreover, the new website is a lot of fun to play around with, so I highly suggest checking it out.

The first trailer for the 3D re-release of Steven Spielberg‘s 1993 classic Jurassic Park has been released.  The trailer makes great, playful use of John Williams‘ iconic score and drums up a major dose of nostalgia.  Whether 3D is your thing or not, it’s gonna be incredibly hard to pass up seeing Jurassic Park on the big screen again once this thing returns to theaters.  Even though it’s been 20 years, the effects actually look like they hold up pretty well (thank you, Stan Winston), and Jeff Goldblum‘s dry delivery remains spot-on.  Hold on to your butts.

New images have surfaced for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and they show off our first looks at co-stars Walton Goggins (The Shield) and Don Johnson (Miami Vice) in costume.  Goggins stars as Billy Crash, a ruthless overseer of Cavin Candie’s (Leonardo DiCaprio) plantation and trainer for slaves who will be pitted against each other in a fight to the death.  Johnson is expected to star in the film as Spencer Gordon Bennet, a fellow slave owner who encounters Django (Jamie Foxx) and Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) whilst they are in pursuit of their bounty.

Django Unchained, also starring Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson and Franco Nero, opens in the U.S. on Christmas Day.  Hit the jump to see the new images. 

As we close in on Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained (only two months away!), another trailer has popped up online.  While the latest domestic trailer was pretty good, this new international trailer is absolutely terrific.  It provides our best look at the film yet with plenty of new footage (some could argue a little too much), plot details, and character motivations.  And all of it looks amazing.  Also, it’s pretty easy to win me over when your spaghetti western-style movie leads off its trailer with the theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

After a rather drawn-out development period, production is finally underway on director Spike Lee’s remake of director Park Chan-wook’s now-classic 2005 South Korean revenge film Oldboy.  Josh Brolin stars as an advertising executive who is kidnapped and imprisoned for 20 years without explanation.  He is abruptly released and sets out to discover the who and why of his captivity, running across a social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation.

FilmDistrict announced today that the pic will open on October 11th, 2013.  There are currently no other films slated for release at that time, but it puts the redo in a great spot both for commercial success and awards consideration.  Samuel L. Jackson and James Ransone round out the impressive cast, and I can’t wait to see how Lee puts his spin on the material.

New images from the set of director Jose Padilha’s RoboCop remake show off more looks at the film’s futuristic vehicles. We’ve seen glimpses of the cop car and taxi before, and the motorcycle popped up recently, but now we have much more extensive looks at all of them. With all these vehicles to wash and wax, it’s no wonder the film was recently bumped to 2014.  As a bonus, we finally know the answer to why Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) retains one human hand as the cyborg-cop: bunny fingers.
