There was quite a bit of movement for last night’s programming. Here’s a brief look at the highlights:

The Fall 2012 TV season began in earnest this week, with most shows having their series/season premieres. Here’s a brief glance at the highlights:
- CBS’ Sherlock Holmes update Elementary debuted strong with a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demo for 13.41 million viewers.
- Also at CBS, The Big Bang Theory scored its highest rated season premiere ever with a 5.0 rating and a solid 15.66 million viewers.
- Things weren’t all rosy at The Eye, however, as Hawaii Five-0 was way down with a 1.8 rating. That’s a significant drop from last year’s season premiere rating of 3.4 in the coveted 18-49 demo.
- NBC’s J.J. Abrams-produced drama Revolution saw an unsurprising drop in viewers from last week’s season premiere, though the 3.4 rating with 9.21 million viewers shows a healthy hold from last week’s 4.1 rating.
- Unfortunately, ABC’s excellent pilot for Last Resort debuted to a slightly disappointing 2.2 rating with 9.31 million viewers.
Hit the jump for the TV ratings for the week of September 23 – 29, including New Girl, Parks and Recreation, Grimm, Fringe, South Park, Sons of Anarchy, Castle, and much more.

ABC has finally put the finishing touches on their Fall 2012 lineup and announced premiere dates for new and returning series. It seems like just yesterday we were saying our goodbyes to the network shows for the summer, with the intensity of Breaking Bad and the silliness of True Blood keeping us company until the fall season, but it’s about time to start looking to the Fall 2012 TV lineup.
Fan favorites like Modern Family, Revenge, and Once Upon a Time will premiere in the normal late-September slot, but we’ll have to wait until October for the return of Happy Endings and Suburgatory. For my money, the most promising new show on ABC’s schedule is the Connie Britton-fronted drama Nashville, which premieres on October 10th. Body of Proof, Wife Swap, and new shows Red Widow and Zero Hour are being held until midseason. Hit the jump to take a look at the full list of premiere dates.

Upfronts Day 3: Commence! Over the last two days, we’ve seen the new fall 2012 schedules for NBC and Fox, as well as trailers for some of the new series that those networks will be offering. Today it’s ABC’s turn, and their new schedule has a couple of change-ups for returning series. The fan-favorite drama Revenge has taken over Desperate Housewives’ Sunday night spot (if you weren’t aware, DH had its series finale this past weekend), and the comedies Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23 will be moving to Tuesday nights.
Tuesday is fast becoming the new comedy night, as NBC has set their two most high profile new comedies—The New Normal and Go On—for Tuesday, and that night is currently host to Fox’s all-comedy block that includes New Girl and Mindy Kaling’s The Mindy Project. In other words, you’re probably gonna have to do some in-depth DVR scheduling. Hit the jump to check out the full ABC schedule. We’ll have trailers for the new series up once they’re available.

On the ABC drama series Scandal, from show creator/writer/executive producer Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice), actor Tony Goldwyn plays President Fitzgerald Grant, whose former communications director, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), left to open her own prominent crisis management firm. Revered and feared at the same time, Olivia was hoping to completely cut ties with her past (which includes an affair with the President) and start a new chapter in her life, but her former boss and his chief of staff (played by Jeff Perry) are never far from her beat.During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, Tony Goldwyn talked about how he came to be a part of Scandal, what he thinks of his morally ambiguous character, the challenge of always being so exact with such fast-paced dialogue, the presidents that he looked at for inspiration, what it’s like to work with his co-star Kerry Washington, and how the stakes will continue to get higher through the end of the season. He also talked about his directorial work, whether he prefers the style of film or TV, developing a drama series for AMC, and the shows he’d love to direct an episode of, if given the opportunity. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

The new ABC drama series Scandal, premiering on April 5th from show creator Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice), follows Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), a woman who had dedicated her life to protecting and defending the public images of the nation’s elite and keeping those secrets under wraps. A former communications director to the President of the United States (played by Tony Goldwyn), Olivia left the White House to open her own prominent crisis management firm, made up of individuals who specialize in fixing other people’s lives, but can’t manage to fix their own.
During this recent interview to promote the fast-paced and exciting new show, co-stars Katie Lowes (who plays Quinn Perkins, the new young woman in the office who is in awe of Olivia), Columbus Short (who plays slick litigator Harrison Wright), Darby Stanchfield (who plays investigator Abby Whelan) and Guillermo Diaz (who plays hacker extraordinaire Huck) talked about what attracted them to the show and the character they play, how challenging it is to do the dialogue at the pace they need to do it without ever missing a single word, how realistic they think this show and setting is, what you’ll learn about their characters over the course of the season, what it’s like to work with show star Kerry Washington, and what sets this drama series about from everything else that’s currently on television. We’ve already highlighted the trailer for the anticipated remake of the classic series Charlie’s Angels, but ABC has also released trailers for the rest of their new series as well. Now you can see the official trailers for ABC’s new series including Apartment 23 starring James Van Der Beek, Leslie Bibb and Kristen Chenowith in Good Christian Belles, Tim Allen’s return to TV in Last Man Standing, Dan Fogler in Man Up, Missing starring Ashley Judd, the fairytale drama Once Upon a Time, Christina Ricci in Pan Am, the high society drama Revenge, the Amazon-set The River, Henry Ian Cusick in Scandal, and the comedies Suburgatory and Work It.
Again I’m not impressed or interested at all in Once Upon a Time, and Last Man Standing just looks like a huge disappointment for Tim Allen fans. However, I’m defintely more interested in Pan Am after seeing this new trailer and I really hope Apartment 23 is able to get the attention of children of the 90′s who grew up with Dawson’s Creek because it looks pretty damn funny. Anyway, you can decide which shows you’ll want to check out in the fall after watching the trailers after the jump. For more details on each series and even more clips, be sure to check out our previous post on ABC’s 2011-2012 schedule.
