Kevin Feige Says the AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Script Hasn’t Changed “At All” Due to Scarlett Johansson’s Pregnancy

With principal photography on the Marvel sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron set to get underway in just a few weeks, the recent news that actress Scarlett Johansson is pregnant had some wondering whether it would impact the production.  Last week, we heard that Marvel planned on “fast-tracking” Johansson’s scenes as Black Widow, which would ensure that the actress could complete her portion of filming in a timely manner.

When Steve was speaking with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently in anticipation of the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (which also stars Johansson), the executive spoke about moving forward with Age of Ultron in the wake of this news.  Feige said that while they have done a bit of rearranging with the shooting schedule, the script hasn’t changed one bit.  Hit the jump for more.

Scarlett Johansson Talks AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Script and Joss Whedon; Says Film Makes Marvel Universe Feel “Very Close-Knit”

Scarlett-Johansson-Avengers-2-Age-of-Ultron-interview

With Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Solider set to invade theaters on April 4th, earlier today Disney started doing press on the film here in Los Angeles.  While reviews are embargoed for another week or so, Disney allowed us to tweet after last night’s screening and as I said on twitter, the movie is phenomenal.   Loaded with incredible action, a great script, and fantastic character moments, The Winter Solider is easily one of the best Marvel movies and it’s going to make fans and casual moviegoers very happy.

While everyone is excited for The Winter Solider, all Marvel fans have another date circled on their calendar: May 1, 2015.  At the beginning of next summer, The Avengers return under the direction of Joss Whedon with Avengers: Age of Ultron.  While the story is under wraps, when I talked to Scarlett Johansson today for Captain America: The Winter Solider, I asked her about her thoughts on the the script.  She said the sequel makes the Marvel Universe feel “very close-knit, cerebral, and progressive” and added that it “feels like the continuation of The Avengers.”  Hit the jump to watch what she had to say.

Although her name isn’t in the title, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow is going to be a big part of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  Just how big a role it is remains to be seen, but this new character featurette teases a bit more about the super-spy and what she’ll get up to in the Marvel sequel.

Also starring Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, and Maximiliano Hernández, Joe and Anthony Russo’s  Captain America: The Winter Soldier will open April 4th.  Hit the jump to watch the featurette.

SXSW 2014: CHEF Review

by     Posted 44 days ago

chef emjay anthony jon favreau

Jon Favreau very clearly has something he’s eager say in his latest directorial endeavor, Chef, but there’s no harm in letting him use the film to express his feelings when he’s doing so in a highly entertaining and motivating manner.

Carl Casper (Favreau) is a talented chef working in a popular Los Angeles restaurant. The problem is, it’s not his restaurant and the owner is afraid of losing a good thing so demands that Carl push creativity aside in order to maintain their clientele with the familiar menu. When a popular food critic calls Carl out for playing it safe and sticking to the same old dishes, Carl loses his temper in the midst of a packed night and winds up an Internet sensation. Trouble is, Internet infamy doesn’t equal job opportunities and now, the only way for Carl to clear his name and get back on his feet is by taking the plunge and finally trying to do things his way – in a food truck.  Hit the jump for my full review of Chef from the SXSW Film Festival.

Disney has released a new featurette and TV spot for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and about half of it is comprised of new footage.  In the sequel, Captain America (Chris Evans) joins forces with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and the Falcon (Anthony Mackie) to expose a conspiracy, fight off professional assassins, and battle a new enemy, the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).  The movie continues to look good, the buzz is strong (so strong that they’re bringing back directors Joe and Anthony Russo for Captain America 3), and April 4th can’t get here soon enough.

Hit the jump to check out the featurette and TV spot.  The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Georges St-Pierre, Frank Grillo, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, and Maximiliano HernándezCaptain America: The Winter Soldier will open in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D.

THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON to Rearrange Shooting around Scarlett Johansson’s Pregnancy

by     Posted 48 days ago

avengers-movie-image-scarlett-johansson-slice-01

Yesterday, it was reported that Scarlett Johansson is pregnant, which is wonderful for her and her fiancée, but will be a bit of a headache for filming on The Avengers: Age of Ultron.  According to E! Online, the production is going to “fast-track her scenes” once she finishes her press tour for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and begins filming overseas on April 5th.

It’s the sensible move since production on a major blockbuster tends to go for months, and they don’t know when Johansson will start to show.  It’s going to be difficult to hide a baby bump under the character’s catsuit, so unless Black Widow develops a predilection towards standing behind things, carrying boxes, and wearing frumpy sweaters, filming her scenes ASAP is probably the best way to go.  The Avengers: Age of Ultron opens May 1, 2015.

One of the new characters I’m looking forward to seeing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier is Sam Wilson (a.k.a. Falcon) played by Anthony Mackie (Pain & Gain).  Falcon is one of the good guys, and he’ll be fighting alongside Cap (Chris Evans) in the upcoming superhero film.  Today, Marvel has released a character poster for Falcon featuring the wings he uses to fly (the codename is not misleading).  The studio previously released posters for Captain America, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford).

Hit the jump to check out the poster, and click here for a recap of the first 10 minutes of the movie.  The film also stars Georges St-Pierre, Frank Grillo, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Maximiliano Hernández, and Sebastian StanCaptain America: The Winter Soldier opens in 3D on April 4th. Last night, Marvel hosted a World Premiere of their new short film: the Iron Man 3 ‘sequel’ All Hail the King.  Star Ben Kingsley, writer/director Drew Pearce and Marvel honcho Kevin Feige were on hand to discuss the short, which I’ll have a lot more on in the not too distant future.  After the Q&A though, Feige treated the audience to a surprise – the opening ten minutes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  For a recap of Winter Soldier’s opening and some thoughts on it, hit the jump.

Trailer for Jonathan Glazer’s UNDER THE SKIN Starring Scarlett Johansson

Following yesterday’s terrific poster, StudioCanal has released a new trailer for Jonathan Glazer‘s sci-fi film Under the Skin.  The strange story features Scarlett Johansson as an alien whose sexuality lures men into an abyss, but she begins to start questioning her actions as she develops an emotional connection with humans.  That brief synopsis doesn’t do much justice to this cerebral picture, but the trailer does a good job of conveying the off-kilter tone.  It also features blurbs from critics who are ecstatic about the movie; I am not one of them.  One of the blurbs even compares the movie to Kubrick, but I would say a far more apt comparison is 1976′s The Man Who Fell to Earth.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Under the Skin opens in the U.K. on March 14th.  The film opens in L.A. and New York on April 4th, followed by a limited release on April 11th.

New Poster for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and Teaser for the Super Bowl Spot

Yesterday, Marvel released new posters and images for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and we ran our on-set interview with Chris Evans.  Today, Marvel has released another poster for the movie along with a teaser for their Super Bowl ad.  I usually find ads for ads obnoxious, but I suppose if you’re going to spend $4.5 million for 30 seconds of airtime, it doesn’t hurt to try and ramp up anticipation among the people who aren’t tuning into the Super Bowl for football.

Hit the jump to check out the poster and “Big Game” teaser (it’s adorable how they can’t say “Super Bowl”).  The film also stars Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Anthony Mackie, Georges St-Pierre, Frank Grillo, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Maximiliano Hernández, Robert Redford, and Samuel L. JacksonCaptain America: The Winter Soldier opens in 3D on April 4th.

Creepy New Teaser Trailer for UNDER THE SKIN Starring Scarlett Johansson

by     Posted 81 days ago

A wonderfully haunting new teaser trailer for director Jonathan Glazer’s (Sexy Beast) upcoming film Under the Skin has been released online.  The film stars Scarlett Johansson as an extraterrestrial on Earth disguised as a gorgeous woman who uses her “voracious sexuality” to entrap human prey.  This particular trailer was put together by Glazer himself, and it’s certainly intriguing.  Matt was mixed on the film as a whole (read his review from TIFF here), but I’m definitely interested to see how it all comes together—especially since Glazer shot much of the film using non-professional actors who didn’t know they were being filmed opposed a disguised Johansson.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Under the Skin opens in Los Angeles and New York on April 4th, followed by a limited release on April 11th.

Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson Get Character Posters for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Today is unofficial Captain America: The Winter Soldier day, and the goods just keep on coming.  This morning, we shared some new images and a preview of Dave’s set visit by way of a Chris Evans on-set interview, and now some individual character posters for the Marvel sequel have landed online.  Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, the follow-up is described as a political thriller and finds Captain America and Black Widow teaming up to face off against an assassin known as “The Winter Soldier.”  These character posters feature the film’s three leads, Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson, and aside from some disappointing photoshop work on Johansson’s body (which is sadly unsurprising), they’re quite nifty.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4th in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D.
