Watch the Super Bowl Spot for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION; Plus New Action Figures Give Us a Look at Cobra Commander

by     Posted: February 1st, 2012 at 1:01 pm

Continuing on with the barrage of Super Bowl spots landing online today is the 30-second preview for G.I. Joe: Retaliation. I’ll admit I had absolutely zero interest in seeing this movie; that is until the first trailer was unleashed. Though I know relatively little about the Joe universe, Retaliation looks incredibly cool. This Super Bowl spot gives us a great deal of new footage, including a look at Cobra Commander, as well as some eloquent Jay-Z citation by Dwayne Johnson. I’m fairly certain the overriding theme of Retaliation is simply “badass.” In addition, we’ve got a few images of the movie tie-in action figures set to be released in anticipation of the sequel.

Hit the jump to check out the Super Bowl spot and action figure images. The film also stars Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, and Bruce Willis. G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens June 29th.

Super Bowl TV Spot for THE DICTATOR Starring Sacha Baron Cohen

The advertising for the ads during the Super Bowl are almost getting more marketing than the actual game itself. We’ve already seen previews from a bevy of the commercials set to debut during the big game, and today you can add The Dictator to that pile. The Super Bowl spot for the film doesn’t contain any new footage besides the intro (with a nice nod to NBC), but this will most likely be the first time many people hear about the new pic from Sacha Baron Cohen. Cohen reunites with Borat director Larry Charles for The Dictator, and the film looks to be sufficiently ridiculous. He’s assembled an impressive cast here and I’m excited to see what else Cohen has in store besides gun-infused track races and sex with Megan Fox.

Hit the jump to check out the Super Bowl spot. The film also stars Ben Kingsley, John C. Reilly, and Anna Faris . The Dictator opens May 11th.

Tack on a Mos Eisley Cantina in Volkswagen’s New STAR WARS Super Bowl Ad

Last year, Volkswagen released on the most popular Super Bowl ads by dressing up a kid in a Darth Vader outfit and have him try to use force powers on various items.  So what’s they’re Super Bowl ad strategy in 2012?  Star Wars plus dogs.  It’s quite ingenious since everyone loves dogs (unless you’re one of those wretched “cat people”) and we’ve already shown you one of the company’s Star Wars/dog ads.  Now the other one has gone online and it doesn’t seem like they were even trying.  They basically had a 30-second spot featuring a dog, someone came along and said, “Add Star Wars“, and this was the result.

Hit the jump to check out the TV spot.  We’ll be posting all of the ads from this year’s Super Bowl, which airs this Sunday at 6:30pm EST.

Check out the Extended Version of the Ferris Bueller-Inspired Super Bowl Ad starring Matthew Broderick

by     Posted: January 30th, 2012 at 8:35 am

A few days ago, we showed a sneak peek at the Honda CR-V Super Bowl Ad featuring Matthew Broderick playing off his Ferris Bueller role.  Directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover), the ad is pretty cute and funny, although it has a notable lack of Alan Ruck.  The ad would be perfect if the CR-V belonged to Alan Ruck’s dad, they took it, and then Ruck destroyed it in a fit of cathartic rage at the end.

Hit the jump to check out the ad.  A shorter version will play during the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The way of the future indeed. As more evidence that Twitter is becoming the glue that holds all forms of media together, Marvel has announced that director Joss Whedon and cast members from The Avengers will be participating in a live Twitter Q&A. The “Global Twitter Chat” will take place on Tuesday, January 31st at 11am PST and will include Whedon and stars Tom Hiddleston and Clark Gregg. As if the chance to ask Joss Whedon questions wasn’t enticement enough, fans will also have the opportunity to answer Avengers trivia for a chance to win Avengers prize packs. It’s an Avengers extravaganza! Hit the jump for more, including confirmation of at 30-second TV spot for the film during the Super Bowl.

Matthew Broderick Reprises His Role as Ferris Bueller in Super Bowl Commercial; Watch a Teaser for the Spot Now

by     Posted: January 26th, 2012 at 1:30 pm

Some of life’s greatest nuggets of wisdom come from the Philosophy of John Hughes.  One of the writer-director’s best works (and one of my all-time favorite movies) is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. It’s one of the most re-watchable movies in history, and Matthew Broderick gives a spot-on performance as the coolest teenager to grace the screen. Who didn’t want to be Ferris Bueller growing up?

For a commercial during the upcoming Super Bowl, Broderick is apparently reprising his role as Bueller. I have no idea what the product is, but I’m beyond excited to see the full spot. A 10-second teaser has been released and I guarantee that it’ll put a giant smile on your face. Hit the jump to check it out, and watch the full commercial during Super Bowl XLVI on February 5th. [Update: Jalopink reports that the ad is actually for Honda and the company hired Todd Phillips (The Hangover) to put the ambitious piece together. The spot will mimic much of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, except it will (obviously) feature some Hondas.]

Paramount, Universal, and Disney Will Promote Their Upcoming Movies during Super Bowl XLVI

Whenever it comes time to prepare for the onslaught of Super Bowl advertising, I always think back to the old Daily Show line, “This year’s Super Bowl will feature over two hours of advertising interrupted by football.”  Being the most-watched TV event of the year warrants the ever-increasing price tag for 30-second spots, which this year reportedly cost $4 million.  In between funny Doritos commercials and misogynistic Bud Light commercials, three studios will be broadcasting ads for their major 2012 films.  According to THR, this year’s Super Bowl will have ads from Paramount, Universal, and Disney while 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and Sony will be sitting out.  Also, Lionsgate isn’t showing off anything so don’t expect a spot for The Hunger Games.

NBC and NFL Team to Stream the Super Bowl Online

While NBC has been streaming Sunday Night Football online and to Verizon phones for a little while now, the biggest football Sunday has yet to be made available legally online…until now. The Associated Press has revealed that NBC and the NFL are teaming up to stream Super Bowl XLVI on both the league and the network’s websites as well as through Verizon’s NFL Mobile app. Users streaming the game to laptops, tablets and mobile phones will get to see additional camera angles, in-game highlights and live stats. More importantly, the big game on February 5th will likely feature some cool new movie trailers, since that’s what’s really important on Super Bowl Sunday. That and the nachos and wings. This could set a new precedent for Super Bowls to come and will certainly make the audience even bigger.

Watch the CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER Super Bowl Spot Set to “America Fuck Yeah”

For me, Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s 2004 puppet-comedy Team America: World Police is a gift that keeps on giving. Not only is the film an astute observation of the United States’ love of “spreading freedom” at any cost, it also contains a slew of memorable songs that almost always succeed in making me laugh out loud.  With that in mind, when we stumbled upon Captain America: The First Avenger‘s Super Bowl spot set to one of said memorable songs (the super-patriotic jam, “America Fuck Yeah”), there was really no choice but to pass it along.

Clues from the SUPER 8 TV Spot

On Super Bowl Sunday, we brought you the official TV spot for Super 8. Apparently, J.J. Abrams didn’t think that it generated enough hype, as hours later he revealed some tidbits about the film. Since its unveiling just a few short days ago, Abrams-fanatics have been busy tearing apart the recent trailer and feasting on the delicious Easter eggs hidden within. (A similar technique was used on Super 8’s teaser trailer last year, which led fans to a website featuring the “scariest thing I ever saw.”)

But it seems there is more than one version of Super 8’s trailer surfacing on TV and the net. Sharp-eyed viewers have noticed that the trailers’ final sequence shows a series of images flashing on the lens of the Super 8 camera. When put together like puzzle pieces, the images form some disturbing scenes that may be clues to what Super 8 is all about.  Hit the jump to check them out.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES Super Bowl Ad

If you had the willpower to change the channel from the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet to watch the Super Bowl, you not only witnessed consistent Green Bay talent (sorry Steelers fans), but you were also pleasantly surprised by tons of new footage from upcoming movies like Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Captain America (which featured an impressive Christian Bale-esque physical transformation by Chris Evans), Super 8, and the fourth installment of the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

The new Pirates footage shows that the sequel will include all things “pirate” that were left out of the last three; i.e. mermaids, peg legs, sexy Spanish seafarers, Blackbeard (played by Ian McShane), and even zombies (alright, maybe zombies are not a usual staple in pirate stories, but by now we’ve learned to succumb to whatever floats Jerry Bruckheimer’s boat). You’ll also see Johnny Depp in all his Captain Jack Sparrow glory acting exactly as you would expect, though I’m not saying that’s a bad thing (Depp lightly explains his character’s “limited” character arch here). Pirates is slated to hit theatres May 20th 2011, and also stars Geoffrey Rush, Penelope Cruz and Judie Dench. Hit the jump to check out the new footage.

Watch the Awesome SUPER 8 Super Bowl Spot; Features the First Footage from the Movie

Without a doubt, the best Super Bowl spot so far goes to director J.J. Abrams and Super 8.  Or maybe I should say Steven Spielberg’s Super 8.  Because as I watched the commercial – which features the first footage from the movie – I couldn’t help but think of Spielberg from the way the camera moved to the John Williams sounding score.  While information about Super 8 has been shrouded in mystery, today marks the beginning of Paramount’s promotional campaign and I really couldn’t be more excited.  Trust me, watch the Super Bowl spot and then tell me you don’t want to see this film opening day.  Super 8 gets released June 10.

THOR Super Bowl Commercial

On top of the awesome commercial for Captain America: The First Avenger which features the first footage from the movie, Paramount/Marvel aired a spot for Thor during the Super Bowl which features a bit more footage than what we’ve all seen in the trailer.  If you wanted to see more of Thor’s romantic interest, Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, you’ll be happy.  In addition, you can get a tiny glimpse of Kat Dennings.  Otherwise it’s a lot of stuff you’ve already seen.  Hit the jump to check it out.

Red Skull Hugo WeavingThe first footage from Captain America: The First Avenger has hit the net thanks to Paramount’s Super Bowl Spot.  If you were debating about the movie…this spot is going to shut you up.  While I was a bit nervous how they’d show the transformation from a skinny Steve Rogers to Captain America, the commercial just calmed my nerves.  I love how thin Chris Evans looks at the beginning in boot camp and then how buff he is after the serum.  Well done Marvel.  Well done.  Watch the spot after the jump.

Captain America: The First Avenger hits July 22, 2011 and stars Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, and Stanley Tucci.
