While we’ve been reporting on who might be playing Sarah Connor in the upcoming Terminator reboot, Terminator: Genesis, we might have an actor for her son…Her much older son.  According to Deadline, Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) is in talks to play John Connor, the robot-killing messiah-figure of the post-apocalyptic future.  As we previously reported, Brie Larson (Short Term 12) and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) are the frontrunners for Sarah Connor, and since they’re both younger than Clarke by about two decades, there’s clearly some time travelin’ going on.  I really hope that at one point, John Connor yells at his mom, “You’re not the boss of me!” and runs to his room.

TERMINATOR Reboot Titled TERMINATOR: GENESIS

Alan Taylor‘s Terminator reboot may have an official title.  According to Production Weekly’s Twitter feed, the upcoming film will be called “Terminator: Genesis“.  The production is currently deciding between Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Brie Larson (Short Term 12) to play the new Sarah Connor, and they’ll also be looking for a new John Connor and Kyle Reese.   Terminator: Genesis is currently set to open on July 1, 2015.

Also, as we reported a few days ago, there’s going to be a new TV series that will tie into the film.  That’s a whole lot of Terminator for a franchise that flopped hard when Terminator Salvation was released back in 2009.  But I guess you can’t keep SkyNet and its army of killer robots down.  We don’t know what the TV series will be called, but I hope they go with my suggestion, “Terminator n’ Friends“.

Prepare for plenty of Terminator goodness over the next few years.  Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures are currently developing a feature film reboot of the franchise to be directed by Thor: The Dark World’s Alan Taylor, but in addition to that film it appears that a new TV series is in the works as well.  Megan Ellison and David Ellison, the producers of the new Terminator film, are producing this new TV show iteration with Thor and X-Men: First Class scribes Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller onboard to write and executive produce.  Moreover, this new TV show will directly tie into the new Terminator movie, which is being planned as the first in a trilogy of films.  Hit the jump for more.

The casting process continues on the upcoming Terminator reboot, and it appears that the search for Sarah Connor has now been whittled down to two actresses.  We previously reported that Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Brie Larson (21 Jump Street), and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) were among the actresses on the shortlist for the lead role of Sarah Connor, and now Deadline reports that the list has been narrowed down to Clarke and Larson.  Thor: The Dark World helmer Alan Taylor is onboard to direct, and the report notes that Clarke currently has the edge for the part.  Of course, Taylor has worked with Clarke before on Game of Thrones, having directed a number of episodes of the HBO series’ first and second season before landing the Marvel gig.

Paramount has announced a couple of release date shifts.  Firstly, the Terminator reboot will now hit theaters on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 instead of June 26th, which moves it away from Jurassic World (June 12th) and closer to Independence Day 2 (July 3rd).  Paramount is producing the reboot with Annapurna Pictures and Skydance Productions, and we learned last week that Thor: The Dark World and Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor is in talks to helm the Terminator pic.

Additionally, writer/director Alexander Payne’s new film Nebraska will now open in limited release a week earlier than planned, as the pic will drop on November 15th of this year instead of November 22nd.  The film stars Will Forte as a man who accompanies his aging alcoholic father (Bruce Dern) on a road trip from Montana to Nebraska to collect what he believes to be a million dollar Publisher’s Clearing House prize.

Word has it that director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World, Game of Thrones) is in negotiations to helm the Terminator reboot.  If a deal goes through, the longtime TV director could potentially have more massive features to add to his resume as the fifth installment in the Terminator franchise is expected to be the first film in a standalone trilogy.  No studio confirmation has come across as of yet and no new plot details are available on the rebooted film.  Star Arnold Schwarzenegger has said he’ll return in one fashion or another, and none-other than Dwayne Johnson has been rumored to appear as well.  Paramount, Annapurna Pictures and Skydance Productions has Terminator slated for a June 26, 2015 release date. New TERMINATOR Film Set for Release on June 26, 2015; Reboot Will Be First in a Trilogy

He’ll be back in 2015.  Paramount, Annapurna Pictures, and Skydance Productions have announced that the new Terminator movie will be released on June 26, 2015, adding yet another massive release to that year’s calendar.  The pic is described as a “rebooted Terminator movie,” and the press release notes that the new film will be the first in a stand-alone trilogy, so it certainly sounds like connectivity to the previous films will be light if not absent altogether.  Despite this fact, Arnold Schwarzenegger has repeatedly said that he’ll be in the film and the most recent rumors have Dwayne Johnson possibly going toe-to-toe with The Governator.  The press release doesn’t lie, though, and it sure does make this Terminator sound like a wholly separate thing.

Laeta Kalorgridis and Patrick Lussier wrote the screenplay, and with a firm release date set, the next order of business will be attaching a director.  Let the speculation begin!  Hit the jump for more.

Things have been heating up for the fifth installment of the Terminator franchise lately, with Paramount recently entering talks to distribute the Annapurna Pictures/Skydance film and Arnold Schwarzenegger confirming that he’ll be returning with shooting set to begin in January.  Now a pretty wild rumor is circulating that Dwayne Johnson—the go-to guy when your franchise needs a boost—is being eyed to star in the film alongside Schwarzenegger.  Hit the jump for more, including a possible 1940s setting (what?) for the sequel.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms He’ll Play a Terminator in TERMINATOR 5; Shooting Begins in January

We’re inundated with reboots, but if there’s a franchise that could actually use one, it’s Terminator.  The idea of killer robots bringing on the apocalypse is an evergreen concept (we’re going to see it later this year in The World’s End), but the current trajectory of the franchise has run out of steam.  Terminator Salvation was a dud, but now we’re soldiering on with Terminator 5Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return, and since that was the case, fans hoped it would be as a human character (somehow not Sergeant Candy) because why would Skynet churn out old, saggy terminators?  However, Schwarzenegger has revealed that he will indeed be the Terminator in the fifth installment, and shooting is set to begin in January.

Paramount in Talks to Distribute Next TERMINATOR Film

by     Posted 309 days ago

Moves are being made with regards to the next Terminator film.  If you’ll recall, the rights to the franchise were put up for auction in 2011, at which point Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures picked up the rights to produce the next installment in the series.  Very little movement has been made since that time, but Megan’s brother David Ellison (True Grit, Star Trek Into Darkness) singed on to be the financial and creative partner on the project via his Skydance Productions banner last December, and the Ellison siblings tapped Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) to start working on a script for Terminator 5 earlier this year.

Now The Wrap reports that Paramount Pictures is in talks to acquire distribution rights to the next Terminator pic, which makes perfect sense given that Skydance has a strong partnership with Paramount.  Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to return for the next film, and with distribution nearly settled, we should start seeing firm movement towards production on Terminator 5 very soon.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms Involvement in TERMINATOR 5

the terminator arnold schwarzenegger

Word on the net is that Arnold Schwarzenegger himself has confirmed his involvement with the latest Terminator film.  While there is no official confirmation as of yet, Schwarzenegger was said to announce his appearance in Terminator 5 during a recent press day for The Last Stand.  The Kim Jee-woon actioner was intended to be Schwarzenegger’s big return to a leading role in action, but the opening weekend’s box office was a huge disappointment.  Perhaps returning to one of his signature franchises would help return the living legend to his former glory.  Terminator production has been ramping up behind the scenes as of late, so we’ll have to wait and see how all of this plays out.  Hit the jump for more.
