Christopher McQuarrie brings us a violent and exciting film with a great lead character in Jack Reacher.  Tom Cruise plays the title character based on the series of novels by Lee Child, an ex-army cop who has gone off the grid and resurfaces to help solve a quintuple murder.  He enlists the help of lawyer Helen Rodin (Rosamund Pike) who has decided to defend the prisoner, despite the overwhelming objection of her father, the D.A. (Richard Jenkins) and police detective Emerson (David Oyelowo).  For more on the film, here’s six clips, over twenty images, positive early reviews, and all our previous coverage.

At the NYC press day for the film, I was able to speak to stars Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo about how they got involved, what it was like working with legends Tom Cruise and Werner Herzog, and their future projects, including Edgar Wright’s The World’s End and Lee Daniels The ButlerWatch what they said after the jump.

Principal photography has wrapped on Edgar Wright‘s upcoming film, The World’s End.  Co-written with Simon Pegg, The World’s End marks the final chapter in the informal “Blood & Ice Cream” Trilogy.  The story centers centers on five childhood friends (played by Pegg, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Paddy Considine, and Martin Freeman) going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, “The World’s End”.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  To mark the end of shooting, Pegg has tweeted the first image from the film, which shows the lead cast members, and how Pegg’s character may not be the most successful of the bunch.  You can also see how the costumes line up with these set photos that show the child-versions of the characters.

With Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opening this weekend, I recently got to interview some of the cast and filmmakers in New York City and all week I’ve been posting them.  Here’s Andy Serkis, Richard Armitage, who plays Thorin Oakenshield, son of Thráin, son of Thrór, King Under the Mountain, and Weta Digital’s Sr. Visual Effects Supervisor Joe Letteri.

During my very fun conversation with Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins) we talked about his reaction to seeing The Hobbit for the first time, whether or not he is looking forward to the additional filming next year, is he ready for the fame that comes with being the lead in a major movie trilogy, and more.  However, while talking about The Hobbit was great, the best part of the interview was discussing how he got the nickname “Little Martin” on the set of Edgar Wright’s The World’s End with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.  It also led to a bold statement about the chances of the Star Trek sequels box office compared to The Hobbit.  Trust me, you definitely want to watch this interview.  Hit the jump to check it out.

The first teaser poster for director Edgar Wright’s The World’s End has been released.  The film reunites Wright with stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and acts as the third installment in the trio’s “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” after Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.  Written by Wright and Pegg, the story centers on five childhood friends going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, “The World’s End”.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  This poster teases, well, the end of the world, as a devastating event looks to be headed Earth’s way.  Wright and Pegg previously admitted that the film’s genre could be classified as “social sci-fi,” so this poster certainly fits that description.  I’m not sure if it hints at some otherworldly antagonist or if it’s just a play on humanity’s impending doom, but if the fate of the world lies in the hands of Pegg and Frost, at least we know we’ll go down laughing our asses off.

Hit the jump to check out the poster.  The film also stars Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine (Hot Fuzz), and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes).  The World’s End will be released in the UK on August 14th, 2013 and in the US on October 25th.

Rejoice!  Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost are finally back together.  Production has commenced on The World’s End, the third installment of the trio’s “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy.”  The film follows the incredible one-two punch of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz with a script by Wright and Pegg that centers on five childhood friends going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, “The World’s End”.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  Wright again directs, with Pegg and Frost starring alongside Rosamund Pike and Hot Fuzz co-star Paddy Considine.

Along with the news of the start of production comes the welcome announcement that Sherlock and The Hobbit star Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) have also joined the cast.  Production is underway in the U.K. with an eye towards a 2013 release.  Hit the jump to read the full press release.

Production is underway on The World’s End, Edgar Wright‘s conclusion to the “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” (the previous installments being Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz), and the first set photos have gone online.  The plot centers on five childhood friends going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, “The World’s End”.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  These set photos, taken on set at Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, show the younger versions of the characters.  The young actor in the glasses plays the younger version of Nick Frost‘s character, while the one in the black trench coat is the young Simon Pegg. [If anyone knows the names of the younger actors, let us know, and we'll give them their proper credit]

We’ve got a couple of casting stories to share this afternoon.  First up, Hot Fuzz scene-stealer Paddy Considine is set to reteam with director Edgar Wright and stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for the comedy The World’s End.  The plot centers on five childhood friends going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  Rosamund Pike is set as the film’s female lead, a woman who shares a romantic past with Pegg’s character, and Variety reports that Considine will play “a former ladies man and musician who has grown up to be a divorced architect.”

Considine has appeared in Submarine and The Bourne Ultimatum and made his directorial debut to much acclaim with last year’s Tyrannosaur.  Production on The World’s End begins next month.  Hit the jump for casting news concerning The Social Network’s Max Minghella teaming up with Daniel Radcliffe for a truly crazy-sounding fantasy thriller.

Edgar Wright‘s sci-fi comedy The World’s End will finally go in front of this September with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost returning to close out the “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” (the first two installments are Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz).  The plot centers on five childhood friends going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  We always knew Pegg (who co-wrote the script) and Frost would return since there’s no trilogy without them, but now the first piece of new casting has been announced.

According to The Daily Mail, Rosamund Pike has joined the cast.  There are no details on who she’ll play, but she’s a quality addition to any film.  Hopefully, we’ll discover new details on her role in the near future.  Hit the jump for the film’s full synopsis.  The World’s End is due out spring 2013.  Pike will next be seen in the action-thriller Jack Reacher, which opens December 21st.

Edgar Wright Wraps on ANT-MAN Test Reel

Although director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) is currently prepping to shoot The World’s End, he’s apparently found enough time to put together a test reel for an Ant-Man feature.  The Marvel superhero is a scientist by the name of Hank Pym who can change his size at will, from the miniscule to the gigantic.  He also possesses a helmet that lets him communicate with ants.  Wright was originally attached to the project when Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk went into production, although Ant-Man was sidelined to make way for the origin movies of the heroes that would go on to star in The Avengers.  Ironically, Ant-Man was a founding member of the superheroic assembly; perhaps, if Wright’s test reel goes well, we’ll see an Ant-Man feature and a follow-up appearance in The Avengers 2. For fans of director Edgar Wright and actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s previous work together (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, TV’s Spaced), confirmation that the trio’s next film, The World’s End, would begin shooting this September came as splendiferous news.  Not only was a planned production start date announced, but we also got a possible release date (Spring 2013) and a full logline for the plot.  The story involves five childhood friends who reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying an epic pub crawl that they all failed to complete 20 years prior.

The full synopsis notes a struggle for “the future of humankind,” which hinted that there was more to the story than a standard pub crawl.  Wright and Pegg recently elaborated a bit on the film, with Wright confirming that the pic could be classified as a “sci-fi comedy” or “social science-fiction.” Hit the jump for more.

Here’s a piece of news that is undeniably off the chain.  After years of waiting and months of teasing, director Edgar Wright is set begin filming The World’s End with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost this September.  The third entry in the so-called “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” that began with the zombie flick Shaun of the Dead and continued with the action-leaning Hot Fuzz has been promised for a long time now, and this past January Wright and Pegg revealed that they were “hard at work” on the film’s script.  Pegg recently wrapped J.J. AbramsStar Trek sequel, and earlier today tweeted that he’s moving straight into Frank Darabont’s L.A. Noir TV pilot, after which he’ll “be an author again,” followed by a job involving “plasma and gelato.”

Back in January, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg shared an image of the two “hard at work” on the script for The World’s End, the concluding chapter in the unofficial “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” which includes Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.  Following the success of the latter, Wright, Pegg and Nick Frost got busy with their separate projects (though the break gave us such excellent flicks as Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Star Trek, and Paul).  Pegg is currently in the middle of filming J.J. AbramsStar Trek sequel, but earlier today he tweeted a lovely image of a completed draft of the script for The World’s End.  Hit the jump to check it out.

In 2004, there was Shaun of the Dead. In 2007, there was Hot Fuzz. Now, if Twitter is to be believed, there will soon be The World’s End. Writer/director Edgar Wright posted a picture on Twitter today titled only “Hard at work.” Next to him was writer/actor/super-spy-extraordinaire Simon Pegg, pondering the inevitability of The World’s End. Along with Nick Frost, the two have worked together on the above-mentioned films and have long-expressed the desire to complete the so-called “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy,” due to the presence of bloody violence and Cornetto ice cream in each movie. (It’s also called the “Three Flavours Trilogy” as red strawberry is featured in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz referenced a blue Classic flavor. The World’s End is said to showcase green mint chocolate chip.) While plot details are short at the moment, fans will want to hit the jump to check out the dynamic duo hard at work.

Fans of trio Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost have been anxiously awaiting any fresh developments on the final installment of their “Blood and Ice Cream” trilogy, The World’s End.  The first two films were Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and the trilogy has its name due to the presence of bloody violence and Cornetto ice cream.  In March 2009, Pegg said they were planning to shoot The World’s End in the fall, but obviously that never came to fruition.  In June of this year, Pegg said he and Wright were aiming to get started on the script, and now it looks like they’ve completed at least their first draft.  Hit the jump for more.
