As part of the team nominated for Best Visual Effects at this year’s Academy Awards, Jeff White was the Visual Effects Supervisor at ILM on Marvel’s The Avengers, having worked on a little over 700 shots in the film. After working as a Creature Technical Director on such films as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Lemony Snicket’s: A Series of Unfortunate Events, White served as Digital Production Supervisor on Transformers, and then was elevated to Association Visual Effects Supervisor on the subsequent sequels Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon.
During this recent exclusive interview with Collider, Jeff White talked about how incredible the Oscar recognition is, which sequences ILM was involved with, collaborating with director Joss Whedon and Marvel, how he ended up working at ILM, and the shots that he’s most proud of pulling off. He also talked about starting pre-production on Transformers 4, which he says has some really exciting stuff in it, his hopes to be involved with The Avengers 2, and what it’s been like to be involved with Transformers: The Ride, which is at Universal Studios Hollywood. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Director Michael Bay’s next film is a bit of a departure from the filmmaker’s recent mega-budget fare, as we’ll see him return to his Bad Boys sensibilities on the $20 million dark comedy Pain and Gain. Explosions fans needn’t worry, though, as Bay is currently prepping his return to the Transformers franchise with the upcoming Transformers 4. He roped in his Pain and Gain star Mark Wahlberg to front an all-new cast, and he recently confirmed that this will be the start of a new trilogy. Now Bay has talked a bit more about the film, saying he’s going to be “starting off smaller” with Transformers 4 and teasing a complete redesign. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

Who needs press releases and studio announcements when you have Michael Bay? The Transformers 4 director recently posted confirmation of the hiring of Jack Reynor (What Richard Did) as the second lead opposite Mark Wahlberg. There was no mention of Reynor’s character details, but previous reports suggest he’ll be the racecar-driving boyfriend of Wahlberg’s daughter. Bay also commented on the fourth installment of the Transformers franchise, saying it’s not a reboot, but a continuation of the story in a new trilogy. He also gives a little bit of insight into the plot. Hit the jump to read Bay’s comments on Reynor and Transformers 4.

Opening January 18 is director Allen Hughes’ (The Book of Eli) political thriller Broken City. The film stars Mark Wahlberg as a private detective who is hired to identify the lover of a powerful politician’s wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Russell Crowe plays the morally ambiguous politician. The film also stars Jeffrey Wright. For more on the film, here’s the first clip and the brand new trailer.
Over the weekend I sat down with Wahlberg for a fun interview. We talked about how he got involved in Broken City, putting together the great cast, the way he produces, and upcoming projects like Pain & Gain, Ted 2, and Transformers 4. However, while it was great to talk about his film projects, the best part was hearing him talk about the New England Patriots and getting to attend the game last week with his son. While I thought about editing out his comments on the Patriots after the disappointing loss last night, I thought some of you might like to see it. Hit the jump to watch.

Earlier today, the website Unleash the Fanboy unleashed what they claimed to be an exclusive description of the plot for Transformers 4, and said the villain would be Unicron. I didn’t bother to read the whole description since I had a feeling that the scoop was bogus, and now Michael Bay has released a statement confirming my suspicion.
Hit the jump for a statement from Bay regarding the current status of the script. Transformers 4 stars Mark Wahlberg and possibly co-stars Nicola Peltz and Brenton Thwaites. The film is due out June 27, 2014.

Mark Wahlberg is quite a busy guy, and his schedule doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. The actor hit the comedy jackpot this summer in Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s feature directorial debut Ted, which already has a sequel in the works, and he’s also poised to delve into franchise fare as the lead in Michael Bay’s upcoming Transformers 4. Steve recently got to interview Wahlberg in anticipation of the upcoming political thriller Broken City, and the actor gave updates on Transformers 4 and a sequel to Ted, and talked briefly about Bay’s small-scale black comedy Pain and Gain. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

Mark Wahlberg was recently confirmed as the lead in Transformers 4. We first heard Wahlberg was in talks from Twitch, so now that the site has a new Transformers 4 casting update, we’re ready to listen. Twitch hears that Michael Bay has cast Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender) as Wahlberg’s daughter and Brenton Thwaites as Peltz’s biker boyfriend. Both Peltz and Thwaites were on the shortlist that was reported a few weeks ago.
We don’t have many concrete details on the plot—just these character descriptions and the hints that Transformers 4 will be set in China four years after the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. If this casting pans out, then Ehren Krueger (writer on the last two Transformers movies) should have everything he needs to lock in the script, at which point you won’t be able to escape Transformers updates. The still-untitled Transformers sequel is scheduled for release on June 27, 2014.

Back in September, we reported that Transformers 4 would follow the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. However, we weren’t sure how it would follow the third movie other than how director Michael Bay left the world after the events in Chicago. Today, Bay has shed a bit more light on how the plot of Transformers 4 will relate to the previous films. Speaking to TMZ, Bay says that the new movie will take place four years after the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

As we head into the final stretch of 2012, things aren’t slowing down in the slightest: gallery shows are still coming fast and furious (our friends at Ltd Art Gallery just opened their latest show, and another open next week via our friends at Bottleneck Gallery), Mondo’s still churning out new stuff (an entire line of Uni Monsters prints designed by Jay Shaw was released earlier this week), and—meanwhile, closer to homebase—we’ve had more artists and galleries contacting us about doing giveaways through Limited Paper than ever before. Indeed, if anything might be said about the current state of affairs in Poster World, it’s that things are only getting crazier.
Today, we’ve got news on a new Transformers piece from Kevin Tong, show you where you can still purchase one of Craig Drake’s The Hunger posters, and—last but not least—announce our latest giveaway (and offering clues on next week’s). Ready to digest all that? It’s all after the break in today’s super-sized Limited Paper, folks.

So after the back-and-forth of whether or not Mark Wahlberg would be involved in Michael Bay’s Transformers 4, it looks as if it’s finally been confirmed. Previously, we reported that Bay was in talks with Wahlberg to star in Transformers 4, but Bay took to his blog to squash that rumor, saying that the Pain and Gain duo were in talks for another picture. With the internet all abuzz over the possibilities, Bay said that the chatter caused him to dream up a part for the star. Now it looks like it’s going to happen as Bay confirmed Wahlberg’s been cast as the lead on his blog today.

I recently had the privilege to pose a number of questions to the inimitable Frank Welker. While you may not know his name, you should know his voice. In his continuing 45-year acting/voice-acting career, Welker’s voice has brought Scooby-Doo’s Fred Jones, Transformer’s Megatron and countless other characters to life. Welker is still going strong, voicing multiple characters in Transformers Prime, the title role in The Garfield Show, plus video games, movie work and more.
In this recent interview with Welker, he talked about the changing landscape of the voice acting world over the years, how much time he spends in the studio, which voices give him the most trouble and which roles he’d like to see revisited. He also commented on the recent remarks by Hugo Weaving, who voiced Megatron in Michael Bay’s Transformers movies. Welker also reflects on his long-time working relationship with Peter Cullen, the on-going voice of Optimus Prime. Hit the jump for the interview.

An interesting casting rumor is floating around concerning Michael Bay’s upcoming sequel Transformers 4. We know that the follow-up won’t feature any of the human characters from Bay’s first three films, but the director has insisted that the film will not be a reboot. He recently revealed that the sequel will pick up after the annihilation events of Chicago from Dark of the Moon, but it’s assumed that the story will pit the titular robots opposite some fresh faces. Now reports suggest that Bay may be roping in none other than Mark Wahlberg to spice things up. Hit the jump for more.

In the spirit of the Halloween season, last night I watched The Cabin in the Woods again for the first time since catching it in theaters back in April. After a second viewing, my feelings on the film haven’t really changed. I love it. I love it with the passion of an army of “Mermen”. It’s just a brilliant blend of satire, horror and comedy and I’ll argue all day/all night with anyone who tells me differently (in all fairness, it’s okay if you don’t like the movie…you’re wrong, but it’s okay). If you’re like me and enjoy taking in horror classics around good ol’ All Hallows’ Eve, I ask that you do yourself a favor and include The Cabin in the Woods in your classic programming slate. You’ll either (A) love it or (B) have the opportunity to argue with me all day/all night. It’s a win-win.
With my Halloween viewing recommendation in hand, I’ll now present to you this week’s edition of our Top 5. In this week’s iteration is our coverage of New York Comic-Con 2012, yours truly’s Texas Chainsaw 3D set visit, Wally Pfister using the words “appalling” and The Avengers in the same sentence and all hell breaking loose shortly thereafter, the first teaser trailer for director Kimberly Peirce‘s Carrie remake, and Hugo Weaving vs. Transformers. A brief recap and link to each patiently awaits your attention after the jump.
