Well this is rather shocking.  Director Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe: Retaliation was slated to open on June 29th, a little over a month away, but now Paramount has made a last-minute decision to push the film back all the way to March 29th of 2013.  Deadline reports that the move was made in order to do a “conscientious 3D” post-conversion.  This is a bit nuts, as we’ve already seen a ton of promotional material including trailers, TV spots, character posters, and even a fair share of interviews.  Hit the jump for much more.

With director Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe: Retaliation opening June 29, Paramount has been amping up the promotional campaign by debuting a ton of character posters and a great looking trailer.  As a fan of the first film, I’ll admit the sequel looks even better and it’s rocking a great cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson, and D.J. Cotrona.

At this year’s CinemaCon, I got to speak with Adrianne Palicki (Lafy Jaye) and D.J. Cotrona (Flint).  They talked about their reaction to the new trailer and five-minute sizzle reel, the tone of the film, the action, and more.  In addition, with the Red Dawn remake getting released later this year, I asked Palicki is she had seen the finished film.  Hit the jump to watch.

New Posters for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

Two new posters have been released for G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  The only movie this summer with a ninja avalanche, the second G.I. Joe film looks like all kinds of fun.  The story has the Joes striking back after almost being wiped out by Cobra forces under the direction of Cobra Commander and Presidential impersonator, Zartan (the President is played by Jonathan Pryce).  However, I’m not sure the Joes will succeed if they can’t even notice the giant Cobra Commander head behind them.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  The film also stars Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson, D.J. Cotrona, and Bruce WillisG.I. Joe: Retaliation opens June 29th.

New International Trailer for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

Though we’ve already posted a bounty of G.I. Joe: Retaliation material over the past few days, there’s one more Joe-related story to add to the pile: an international trailer.  The new trailer for the sequel premiered yesterday, and this international trailer differs from that one in two ways: more global focus, and more ninjas.  The first trailer for the film pleasantly surprised me, but yesterday’s clip left me a little disheartened.  I want to see a movie that’s not simply a CGI-heavy Transformers rehash, and I’m hoping director Jon M. Chu has a fun take up his sleeve that’s more hand-to-hand combat oriented.  Ninjas automatically make a movie at least 45% cooler, and Dwayne Johnson is the king of charisma.

Hit the jump to check out the international trailer and for a quick rundown on all our recent G.I. Joe: Retaliation coverage.  The film opens on June 29th and also stars Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson, and D.J. Cotrona.

With director Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe: Retaliation opening June 29, Paramount and Hasbro are starting to amp up the promotion of the movie by releasing a great new trailer and by having some of the cast (Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki and D.J. Cotrona) talk about the film at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.  Prior to doing the interviews, I got to watch an impressive five minute sizzle reel and the new trailer with a group of reporters.  If you were disappointed with the first G.I. Joe movie, the sequel looks to be a big improvement, as it’s going for a more real world approach while still trying to be a fun action movie.  Also, with the majority of the Joe’s possibly getting killed in the first ten minutes  (which is why it’s called Retaliation), the sequel could almost be considered a reboot.  The sequel also stars Bruce Willis, Channning Tatum, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Joseph Mazzello, Elodie Yung, and Walton Goggins.  Hit the jump for more.

Paramount has released a new trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation that reveals more of the story and showcases some really cool action that’s been amplified by some great looking CGI.  While I was in the minority for liking the first G.I. Joe movie, I’ll admit the new trailer looks like a huge step forward for the franchise and the casting of Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock and Bruce Willis as the original Joe seems like it’s going to pay off in a big way at the box office.  Hit the jump to check out the new trailer which features London getting hit by a Cobra missle.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens June 29 and also stars Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson, and D.J. Cotrona.

New Character Images from G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

It’s easy to get overshadowed with The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises crowding the spotlight, but G.I. Joe: Retaliation has more than enough might to muscle their way in.  In these new character images, we get a look at our favorite Joes in action, including the original Joe (Bruce Willis).  In this sequel directed by Jon M. Chu (Step Up 3D), the Joes are decimated by a Cobra attack that leaves only a few of the good guys standing. The remaining Joes must band together to take down the evil organization. G.I. Joe: Retaliation also stars Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson and D.J. Cotrona. New Image of Bruce Willis in G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

A new image from G.I. Joe: Retaliation has gone online, showcasing Bruce Willis as OG Joe. I never thought I’d actually be excited for this movie, but the trailers have been pretty great so far and Dwayne Johnson looks to be injecting yet another franchise with his infectious charisma. Willis wasn’t necessarily a strong point in the clips (the “he’s old” joke is, well, old), but he looks sufficiently badass in this new image next to Adrianne Palicki’s Lady Jaye. Three other images featuring Palicki, Johnson as Roadblock, and Elodie Young as Jinx were released the other day.

New Trailer for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

A new trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation has gone online. I remain impressed by what we’ve seen thus far and I’m hoping director Jon Chu has crafted a really fun action movie. Bringing Dwayne Johnson into the franchise was a very, very good call as his infectious charm and all around bad ass-ness is put to good use in the Joe universe. This new trailer is short, but it’s got a bit of new footage and another fun adage from Johnson. Counting the first theatrical trailer and the Super Bowl spot, this makes the third trailer we’ve seen from the film in the past month or so. With four months to go until its release, I sure hope they don’t spoil the whole movie in subsequent spots.

In between rebooting his own series with Transformers 4 and producing a live-action reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Michael Bay has finally managed to find some time for his passion project, Pain and Gain. John Turturro, a familiar face to the Transformers franchise, is reportedly circling a role. The dark comedy is based on the true story of two Miami bodybuilders who get caught up in an extortion scam and a kidnapping gone awry.

Other casting news reports that Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) will join Glenn Howerton (Always Sunny in Philadelphia) for the R-rated CollegeHumor picture, Coffee Town. Production is set to begin next week in Los Angeles. Finally, the most recent addition to the superb Ender’s Game cast is The Grey’s Nonso Anozie. Hit the jump for details on each project.

Peter Berg Provides Update on FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Movie; Says Story Would Center Around Coach Taylor

Friday Night Lights is hands down one of the best television series in history, so when news came that executive producer Peter Berg planned on continuing the story in a new feature film, I was extremely happy. The NBC series was itself a continuation of Berg’s 2006 film, but this new feature will be tied to the characters that we saw in the television show. Berg announced last August that he and executive producer Jason Katims were working on a script and they hoped to begin production this year. Now Berg has provided another update on the movie saying that it’s still in the works, but the difficulty is now getting everyone’s schedules to line up. Hit the jump for more.

Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, and D.J. Cotrona Play with Their G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Toy Likenesses

Over the weekend, we showed you some of the new G.I. Joe toys that will hit the market to coincide with the sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  However, those images lacked the novelty of the stars of the movie playing with the toy versions of themselves. Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, and director Jon Chu stopped by the G.I. Joe booth at Toy Fair, and we’ve got the pictures to prove it.

Bruce Willis, Channning Tatum, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, RZA, Joseph Mazzello, Elodie Yung, and Walton Goggins also star in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, scheduled for release on June 29, 2012.  Hit the jump for the images.

French Trailer for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

A French trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation has been released. It plays like a mash-up of the first domestic trailer for the film and the recent Super Bowl spot, with some new footage mixed in. I continue to be impressed by what we’re seeing from Retaliation; it just looks like a really, really fun movie. The pic seems to be more of a franchise reboot than a direct sequel to the first G.I. Joe, and the lack of Channing Tatum suggests we’re getting an almost entirely new cast headed up by Dwayne Johnson. The new trailer retains the “Seven Nation Army” remix, and a few bits of humor are sprinkled throughout for good measure.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, and Bruce Willis. G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens June 29th.
