Things weren’t looking too good for the space drama Passengers for a little while. Back in March, The Weinstein Company nixed plans to release the film on April 3, 2015 and also lost Rachel McAdams, but now it looks like things are finally back on track. Sony Pictures bought the film from TWC in December and, as of a week ago, the studio had Oscar nominee Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) in talks to direct. On top of that, now we’ve got Variety reporting that Jennifer Lawrence is currently in early talks to star and The Wrap claiming that Chris Pratt could join her.

The Jon Spaihts penned script takes place in the future and is set on a spacecraft making the journey to a new, distant planet. There are thousands aboard in cryogenic sleep, but one (Pratt) wakes up 90 years early. Rather than stick it out and grow old alone, he opts to wake up a female passenger (Lawrence), sparking a romance between the two.

Even though it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the project, it must have some serious potential because apparently there was a bidding war for it and clearly it's attracting top-notch, very in-demand talent. Hopefully all of these negotiations go through because who wouldn't want to see an Academy Award nominated director helm a film with Lawrence and Pratt in the starring roles?

Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur are producing Passengers via Original Film along with Michael Maher of Start Media and Stephen Hamel of Company Films.
