In what sounds like a cross between Contagion and 28 Days Later, Sony Screen Gems  just announced that Patient Zero has commenced principal photography in the UK at Shepperton Studios. The film draws on a lot of TV actors, and they’re culling from some of the best shows out there. Patient Zero will star Matt Smith (Doctor WhoTerminator Genisys), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), John Bradley (Game of Thrones), Agyness Deyn (Clash of the Titans) and Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games series).

Director Stefan Ruzowitzky won the 2008 Academy Award for best foreign language film with The Counterfeiters. Patient Zero was written by Mike Le (Dark Summer).

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

In Patient Zero an unprecedented global pandemic of a super strain of rabies has turned the majority of humankind into highly intelligent, streamlined killers known as ‘The Infected.’ One victim, Morgan (Matt Smith), who is asymptomatic and can communicate with the infected, leads the last survivors on a hunt for Patient Zero and a cure.

I have yet to see either Dark Summer or The Counterfeiters but I hear good things about both. So this one seems like it’s putting a decent first foot forward.
