Though Patton Oswalt saw his career blossom from his work on The King of Queens, I find myself much more satisfied with his work as one of the best stand-up comedians working today. However, a report from Vulture that mentions a Fox sitcom being developed around the laugh riot of a man is enough to get me excited about his return to a half-hour comedy series. Oswalt has teamed with comedian Scott Aukerman (former Mr. Show writer and Comedy Death Ray host) to spawn a comedy series following a man whose wife of 20 years hits the road, thus forcing him to get back into the dating world and live on his own. Sounds like your average sitcom, but with Oswalt and Aukerman’s comedic sensibilities, I’m more than looking forward to the final product.
Hit the jump for news on two new series from a trio of veterans from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.
One might say that these next couple potential new series come from Whedon’s Angels as Vulture reports The CW has a trio of writers from Buffy, Angel and even Dollhouse behind their most recent series orders. First up, Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain will adapt the three-book series Secret Circle into a one-hour drama for the network. The story follows a California teen who moves to her mom’s hometown of New Salem and discovers that she is a witch. This Harriet Potter of sorts sounds like just the kind of supernatural series that will be short-lived on The CW.
In addition to their witch-centric series, The CW has also picked up Chloe from writer Marti Noxon (pictured right), who has worked on Mad Men and Grey’s Anatomy in addition to her work in Whedon’s universes. The series would follow a young female con artist who dies and returns to earth as a Divine Covert Operator. Though Noxon is a writer herself, apparently Jason Fuchs (Holy Rollers) will write the pilot script. As of now, both of these new series only have orders for pilot scripts, but one of the high concept series should be ordered to pilot when the time comes.
Any of these potential new series do anything for you?
