At long last, the highly anticipated sequel to Paul Blart: Mall Cop is on the way.  THR reports that Andy Fickman (Parental Guidance, She’s the Man) is in discussions to direct a follow-up to the 2009 Kevin James comedy, stepping in for previous helmer Steve Carr.  James is set to reprise his role as the titular security guard who has a habit of falling down (hilarious!).  James will also co-write the screenplay with Nick Bakay, as the two penned the first film.  Plot details for the Sony picture are unknown at this time, but an April start date is being planned.

The first Paul Blart film was a sizeable hit at the box office, taking in $146 million domestically against a reported budget of $26 million.  Of course that was five years ago, so it’ll be interesting to see if there’s still an audience for a sequel.
