There is shocking and sad news tonight as it is being reported that Paul Walker has died at age 40.  According to Walker’s official Facebook page, he was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives in a tragic accident.  Walker was attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide.

The actor/producer was best known for his role as Brian O’Conner in the Fast & Furious franchise, but he had other memorable roles in films such as Joy Ride, Pleasantville, Varsity Blues, and more.  My personal favorite is Running Scared.  His gritty, intense performance in that movie absolutely blew me away.  As for his Walker’s life off-screen, producing partner Carter Swan provided these touching words.  Our deepest condolences go out to Mr. Walker’s family and friends.  We’ve included an official statement from Walker’s Facebook page and a statement from Universal Pictures after the jump.

Here’s the post from Walker’s Facebook page:

It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. - ‪#‎TeamPW‬

And here’s the statement from Universal Pictures, the studio behind the Fast & Furious series:
