"Resident Evil" director Paul W.S. Anderson and his long time production partner Jeremy Bolt have acquired the film rights to the novel "The Warded Man".  The novel (released as "The Painted Man" here in the US) is the first in the planned three part "Demon Cycle" fantasy-adventure series from author Peter V. Brett.  Hit the jump to find out what kind of hellish, apocalyptic landscape Anderson and Bolt will send us to this time...

"The Warded Man" takes place in an alternate future where mankind is beset by demons and has been thrown back into the days of the feudal system.  Three young people, including one man who is warded or "painted" with magical spells over his entire body, emerge who may be able to turn the tide in the battle against evil.

Anderson is set to direct the "Warded" adaptation, which he describes as being a "new 'Lord of the Rings'-style epic," when he and Bolt complete post-production on "Pandorum" - a sci-fi thriller starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster that is due out this September.
