Peter Berg’s BATTLESHIP Will NOT Be in 3D

Battleship has decided to not go 3D, thus showing that director Peter Berg (for the moment) can stay off a bandwagon. MTV Movies Blog reports that Universal and Berg have decided not to shoot the film in 3D, and I’m sure somewhere James Cameron just puked in his mouth a little bit. Then again, Berg has crafted what sounds like a much better story that involves aliens but with a District 9-style approach (they’re not just “the enemy”, but a side of a legitimate battle) mixed with good, old-fashioned naval warfare.
Other summer 2012 releases, such as the Spider-Man reboot and Stretch Armstrong, have been reeled in by “The Avatar Effect”, but Berg’s picture will stand apart and attempt to rely on quaint storytelling devices like “compelling characters,” “dramatic tension,” and “exhilarating set pieces.” I’m not saying that the movie will receive these commendations, but at least it’s trying to be a big summer blockbuster without the 3D veneer. But keep in mind that just because they’re not shooting in 3D, doesn’t mean Universal won’t convert the film to 3D in post-production.
Hit the jump to read what producer and Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner had to say about using antiquated 2D technology.
Here’s what Goldner had to say regarding the decision to keep Battleship 2D:
“I think it’s a really unique story and unlike a lot of those other alien stories this is really not about aliens that came here to do us harm,” producer and Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner told MTV News. “So I think you’ll find the story really interesting in that it doesn’t begin as a fight.”
Battleship is currently slated to hit theaters on May 25, 2012.

What's with the unnecessary shots at Avatar? So much for “journalists” remaining unbiased
They're not saying it won't be in 3D. They're saying it won't be shot in 3D. It's no secret that post-processing conversion is cheaper and the MTV report is clear that they don't want to discuss the 3D side of it, just that it won't be shot in it. So I'll believe it'll be released only in 2D when it's released only in 2D.
What's with the sucking of Cameron's c**k and getting all girly about someone criticizing “Dances with Smurfs”? So much for “a man named Joe” retaining some dignity and testosterone.
Also.. nowhere does Matt take 'shots' at Avatar. He states that Cameron “just puked in his mouth a little bit” because as Cameron has stated numerous times, he'd like to see everyone use that technology and movies to be 'filmed' in S3D rather than converted… so, for an epic film (as Battleship has been reported to be by Universal), Cameron's IS probably choking a bit… ya know, like you must be doing on his big “King of the World” c**k!
lol at the threadless graphic, I Sunk Your Battleship.
