A movie that cannot arrive soon enough is “Public Enemies,” the next film from Director Michael Mann that stars Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, David Wenham, Marion Cotillard, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff, Billy Crudup and a ton of other great actors.

In fact, Universal is so confident in the film that they’ve scheduled it for release on July 1st, 2009. And with the pedigree involved in bringing John Dillinger’s story to the screen…I think it's safe to say this is one of next summer's must see films.

According to Wikipedia, the film will focus on FBI agent Melvin Purvis' attempt to stop criminals John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, and Pretty Boy Floyd. Christian Bale plays FBI agent Purvis, Johnny Depp will play Dillinger, and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard will play Dillinger's girlfriend Billie Frechette.

Anyway, thanks to our friends at jfxonline, we’ve been given a few exclusive images from today’s filming here in

California.

According to our source, Johnny was giving away tiny wooden toy guns to commemorate the end of shooting, which is what he and Stephen Dorff are looking at in the picture below. The bag has the words Public Enemies Illinois Wisconsin Indiana 2008 stitched into it. Also, he bought the entire crew beer and enjoyed a couple with them as well.

I’ve heard Johnny has signed thousands of autographs all across America during this shoot…and for someone that doesn’t have to do such a thing, it’s great to hear how gracious he is.

Obviously as the film gets closer to release we’ll be covering it. Until then, enjoy the images!
